Ebay holding money back that doesn't belong to them
I think it was around 2004 I started using ebay. Over that time I have made many purchases and sold a few items each year. My account has always had 100% feedback.
I recently sold a quite normal item for under £100 and the buyer paid immediately. Ebay decided to hold on to my payment for a mysterious "unusual activity"
Ebay then proceeded not notify my buyer his item was available at his nominated collection point. I watch out for thisas it has happened before and I emailed my buyer with the information.
It's now 3 days my buyer has collected his purchase but ebay still hasn't released my money. It does seem from various forums ebay users find this quite common.
It does make wonder how much money it is making by holding on to money that does not belong to them. It must be nice to have a vast pot of money that is topped up every day to invest!
If ebay ever pay me my money I will then close my account as they can no longer be trusted.
They don’t care about sellers
They don’t care about sellers, a customer bought something off me scammed kept the item, and they later opened a case with eBay and still got refunded which is embarassing.
I purchased a cctv system from Annke
I purchased a cctv system from Annke, the listing showed 1 year guarantee. Seven months after purchase the system was not connecting to the monitor.
Annke suggested many possible fixes, none of which worked.
When I informed them of this they said I should send the item back, I was to pay for shipping and parts and that they did not guarantee they could fix it. This doesn't sound like any 1 year warranty I have had before.
When I complained to ebay, they investigated and found in Annke's favour. This was assessed by AI and automated system. I made an appeal to which ebay informed me they had assed it and came to the same conclusion. They said they had sent the result of the appeal to me, but I still have not received it! I went on to their chat system and eventually, after a very frustrating time dealing with a bot, I got a person to phone me. He informed me that the appeal was unsuccessful. I complained that the listing claim of 1 year warranty was misleading. He said ebay would not be pursuing this any further and rudely terminated the phone call.
eBay has become unbearable
eBay has become a complete abomination where customer service is concerned. And judging by their very unhealthy 1.2 rating on TP, I am not alone in this belief. The long and short of it is that I bought an adjustable bed from Stylish Beds, within six weeks of purchase the motor had failed. Contacted seller who assured me after several messages he would send the motor the following week. The following week came and went as did several weeks after that and still no motor after repeated contact with no reply, I finally got a message saying they had had an emergency. I was sorry to hear this but explained I’ve been more than patient. He did say as soon as he could, he would send the motor. It is now been 2 1/2 months of me waiting for this mythical motor to arrive. I contacted customer service to step in and they cited GDPR rules they would not step in. In fact they won’t do anything laughably they referred me to citizens advice. I think this was my final straw for eBay UK.
They should monitor who's selling what…
They should monitor who's selling what on their site. Bought vests off their site, cheap ,thin and supposed to be ex large but they were more like a small. Contacted ebay, they done nothing even put a bad review on the sellers site but within 3 days it had been taken off. So corrupt
Buyer beware.
Three clothing items purchased. Reasonably priced and the postage costs weren't excessive. Bargains so I thought.
Garment no.1 had a large hole in it. Seller replied "it was in the photo."
Yes, it was visible if you zoomed in, but not in the description which was stated "in very good condition." Refunded partially.
Garment no.2 listed as "in good condition" had various old makeup stains on it. Photos didn't show that. Seller must have thought that I had x-ray vision. Partially refunded.
Next item no.3 had bleach stains. Again not in the photos or in the description. The item stunk so badly I was gagging. Refunded.
eBay in my opinion has become flooded with garments any charity shop would refuse to sell. It's only because I stood up for myself, politely that I received refunds.
Buyer beware has never been more applicable in regards to eBay.
EBay? E Nay I say
EBay are giving me the runaround. Is this a bonefide business or one huge con? I ordered something free post, ended up forking out £5.20 to Royal Mail for delivery (seller refunded this) but I shouldn’t have bothered as the goods were destroyed when they arrived - shower gel everywhere except in the bottles. They have asked me to return them (no label has been issued) and say they are going to refund HALF of what I paid when they receive them. They have the balls to say I have already had a refund - NOT SO, that was for the free delivery I actually paid for. It’s nonsense, of course, and EBay are rubbish as usual. Customer service? Not even a prayer book and hymn sheet would make this a service.
Way too many verification checks
Way too many verification checks, problem notifications, failed clicks in the app while trying to resolve problems. Chats re routed to different departments none of which seemed to understand the problems and how to fix. What the hell happened to eBay, it used to be so simple. Such a shame whatever has happened it's definitively gone backwards. Spoke to manager on the phone and she couldn't understand how it was wrong for me to have sold an item and then my funds to be withheld for weeks. Thought that was just my opinion. Terrible company positioning in the developing technology/security situation. We really don't need over the top security checks after we are invested. All that should come first, get it out the way in one and then free to sell. Not sell stuff and then a load of notifications and problems arise after we have parted with our items.
Really need to take a good look at their principles and what's most important. Ease of access to selling goods and receiving payment. It's that simple. Whatever happened.. It's gone backwards for sure.
But hey, I guess they got a bag full of excuses.
Utterly useless trying to contact them.
No luck over several days in speaking to an agent. I typed my concern in the online form, it then said it couldn't be processed.
I've lost over £7,000 through a scam. The items on my account were shown and then disappeared over the next two days. How was that managed? And that is what I want to know. I doubt I'll ever find out.
eBay used to be the gold standard
eBay used to be the gold standard, but its fee math is now pure fantasy.
Taking commission and Promoted Listing ad cuts on the item price, postage costs, AND VAT is absurd. Since when is shipping a seller’s profit? That’s courier money. And tax? That’s government money. Being forced to pay an ad fee on tax and delivery just to get an item seen is daylight robbery.
If you sell heavy or high-tax items, prepare to watch your margins vanish into thin air.
Thank God for Vinted. Moving my stock there has brought in more cash with zero seller-fee head-spins. eBay better wake up before the rest of its seller base packs up and leaves, too.

Gastly intrusive AI ,which promotes dangerously inaccurate descriptions especially for vehicles. Plus draconian punitive tax charges for stuff that has already had vat paid on it from new which you are selling at a loss, looks like marketplace is the way forward or has that been corrupted already?

Item: 820112089696
Described as Replica Luminor Panerai
Reported as counterfeit but eBay says its genuine!
Everyone be careful what you bid on
I sold my old samsung phone
I sold my old samsung phone. The buyer said they were trying to insert a sim card and the back fell off. They have returned the item not in the original state it was sent and ebay are charging me for the return and refund, now I have a phone with the back off. They are not upholding their seller protection policy.
Item randomly banned by AI
I am a UK eBay buyer and seller for over 15 years. They are now employing dumb AI to ban sales on what seems to be a random basis. There are 68 UK Donjoy knee brace items currently for sale but they have banned my identical item for "medical reasons" 4 days ago I appealed and was told it could be advertised by their "Medical Team" but now am told it wasn't allowed. Seems eBay have random policies which have little bearing in reality.
Very unhappy with eBay as a seller.
Very unhappy with eBay as a seller.
I sold an item and posted the parcel, but the delivery company lost it. The tracking information clearly shows in my eBay app that I dispatched the parcel, yet eBay customer service has been completely unhelpful.
Instead of properly investigating the lost parcel, eBay refunded the buyer and left me out of pocket. They are now asking me to provide proof of postage within two days or they may take the money from my funds — even though the tracking history is already visible on eBay.
I am currently on holiday, and rather than investigating the delivery issue with the carrier, eBay is putting all the pressure on the seller.
Other platforms, such as Vinted, have a much fairer approach when a parcel is lost: both the buyer and seller can be protected when the delivery company loses the package.
eBay can clearly see that I posted the parcel, but they seem unwilling to properly investigate what happened.
Very disappointing customer service. I am an unhappy seller and seriously questioning whether it is worth continuing to sell on eBay.
No support
This platform was a good idea, but there is no effective customer support . Anything you buy is total gamblenas it's virtually impossible to get any problem fixed.
