Oh Grindr. good ol Grindr. I've been using this app on and off for a long time. And I understand that times change, but Grindr has really not aged very well at all. First off, there really isn't much point in using the free version. You have access to less than 30 profiles, and when you compare this to apps like Tinder it really just is pointless. You really need at least the Xtra upgrade to cast your net wide enough. And that's like £15 a month. And the price for the tier above that is just extortionate. Like, ridiculously extortionate. £24.99 for 7 days?! I mean, come on. And even if you pay that, you're still gonna have to deal with bots and scammers several times a day. There's also really no way to protect yourself from harassment and abuse on Grindr. I had an incident last year where I was regularly being harassed. I kept blocking the guy, but he'd make a new account in a few minutes. In the end I had to go to the police. Grindr also prevented me from taking any screenshots of the abusive messages he was sending me. I appreciate that this feature was probably to stop people screenshotting people's nudes, but it's a shame Grindr didn't realise that screenshotting is also a way of collecting evidence when cyber crime happens. I notice they've also added a feature where if you go on someone's profile, it'll advertise other profiles that "you might like". Yep, they're doing the whole Netflix "if you liked [x] then you might like [y]". Only this is for...people, not movies, not products, people. So yep, when someone looks at your profile, Grindr's gonna show them a bunch of other guys they might prefer to you. Genuinely baffling that Grindr thought this was a good idea. I have no idea who's running things at this point, but they're really running it into the ground. Surely there must be some decent alternatives by now? Maybe there are and nobody's told me. Anyway, some good things about the app? Umm...let's see...I like the little interviews they do with pop stars like Charli XCX and Slayyyter. Those are cute. Those have nothing to do with actually using the app on a day-to-day basis though.

This company takes the lead in predatory practices, poor technology and unprofessional support. Their customer support used to take 3+ weeks to deal with basic matters that other reviews here have explained well. Then it became practically non-existent so I decided to pause my membership for an extended period as the stress wasn’t worth it. When my membership unpaused I saw clearly how they truly don’t care at all about their customers and want nothing other than to squeeze cash out of them. After sending an email that my account was reactivated I then randomly received a bunch of emails about a problem with my payment method multiple weeks later that month, and within 1 week of the first email they sent the “debt” to a collection agency. Now we know their support is non-existent so I was unable to do anything about this. I was on vacation / out sick and unable to check my email in that 1 week when they decided to do this. They even deleted my account in that timeframe. A decent technology company would send push notifications or SMSs and have other ways of contacting you if they genuinely wanted you to settle these little issues. But USC doesn’t actually want you to improve your health. They HOPE you will pay them, never use the services (which are non-existent through them directly), and make human errors that they can exploit to generate the margins they probably only had based on predation, not a sound business model. Very revealing.
