For over two decades, I struggled with nasal polyps, unable to breathe through my nose. I was hesitant to undergo surgery with general anesthesia, so I simply endured it.One day, I stumbled upon a YouTube video from the U.S. featuring nasal polyps being removed while the patient remained awake, sparking my curiosity about whether such a procedure was available in the UK. To my delight, I discovered this clinic.Though initially doubtful, I must admit it was an incredible decision. After a brief 15-minute consultation with Mr. Barnes, I was led to a minor procedure room where three nurses awaited, exuding both calmness and professionalism.Mr. Barnes showed me the polyps both before and during the procedure. Remarkably, about ten minutes later, he asked me to breathe in through my nose, and for the first time in 20 years, I could!The process was painless, as easy as having your teeth polished.I only wish I had known about this clinic sooner—highly recommended.

i came to see Mr Mahadevan Devan Thevakanthan at Keencare chemist in Harrow to have my ears syringed and washed out, he was very gentle very kind and very, very knowledgeable.

I had nasal polyps & had not been able to breath through my nose for over 20 years.
I really didn’t fancy having general anaesthetic to have them removed & just lived with them.

I happened to find an American video on YouTube, showing nasal polyps being removed whilst the patient was awake. This prompted me to research if it could be done in the UK & Eureka! found this clinic.

I was sceptical, but have to say it was the best thing I have done. After a 15 minute chat with Mr Barnes, I was taken into the minor op room, which had 3 nurses in there for the procedure, all very relaxed but professional.

Mr Barnes showed me the polyps before he started & during the procedure, then after about 10 minutes he asked me to sniff in through my nose, which I could do for the first time in 20 years !!

The procedure isn’t painful, no worse than having teeth polished really.

I wish I’d known about this clinic earlier, definitely recommend

Amazing experience Martyn Barnes is the best! to cut a long story short; I have CRS with polyps and a deviated septum.
from the beginning of booking my initial appointment with 1st clinic via Phoenix hospital, to getting surgery and post surgery I have nothing but great things to say.
booking was straight forward and easy; the lovely Rosie took my details, booked me in and any questions I had were passed on to Martyn and relayed back. the actual polypectomy surgery itself was a doddle, I was a little bit freaked out beforehand researching the surgery on YouTube but upon meeting Martyn, I felt immediately at ease, in the consultation room, he explained everything to me, examined my nose and showed me the polyps. ( I had been dying to see what mine looked like.) during the polypectomy surgery he took charge of the whole room, was talking and explaining things to me which in itself was very calming and fascinating. the surgery itself was a breeze didn't hurt at all and only lasted for what felt like 10 minutes; a bit uncomfortable at times but nothing you can't handle. Just remember to shave your nose hairs before the surgery you will thank me for this!
after the op Martyn has remained in constant communication with me; chasing things up for me making sure I had medication. I have nothing but good and positive things to say about Martyn and the whole polypectomy surgery. it is so refreshing to FINALLY find a professional who is not only committed to their job and patient but also adheres to the Hippocratic oath. most importantly I can actually breathe again!! I am so thankful to Martyn for giving me the ability to breathe out of my nose once more rather than via my mouth!
Please if you are suffering or having difficulty with your nose, sinusitis, polyps etc go to Martyn Barnes it was the best decision I have ever made and I know you won't regret it either!

Very professional ease of booking

A professional, efficient and effective service.

Nasal Polyectomy under local anaesthetic. I’m writing this a couple of hours after my procedure. I can’t fault Mr Barnes, and the services of the Phoenix hospital.
He explained everything, was utterly professional. An exceptionally skilled surgeon who enjoys his work.
I’m still a bit sore but I can already feel the relief. There was very little pain, a bit of obvious discomfort. But no worse than a teeth polish by the hygienist at the dentists.
If you are sick of waiting for the NHS to pull its finger out, contact Mr Barnes, you won’t regret.

Having suffered with Nasal Polyps for over five years I decided to approach Mr Martyn Barnes at 1st Clinic UK in Phoenix Hospital, Chelmsford, as I wanted to avoid any delays that may have been experienced by using the NHS. After a few brief emails, I was booked for surgery on 10th March 2025 and the entire consultation and surgery took an hour or so. Mr Barnes was a delight to deal with - thank you Martyn! In the following weeks I have gradually felt better and better and feel pleased and vindicated in my decision to approach both Mr Barnes and Phoenix Hospital. I can now breath though my nose and most if not all of my frequent and crippling headaches have stopped. Communication from Mr Barnes was absolutely 100% top notch throughout. How he gets the time / energy I do not know! I would highly recommend both Mr Barnes and Ist Clinic UK at Phoenix Hospital. Thank you again Martyn!

I write this just over 24hrs after my nasal polypectomy carried out by Mr Martin Barnes.
After suffering the debilitating symptoms of nasal polyps for many years and knowing that current waiting lists to be seen via the NHS are in excess of 18 months I decided to contact 1st Clinic and enquire about possible treatment. It may well be the very best decision I have ever made.
From initial contact to where I am right now the process was absolutely faultless, communication was flawless and very clear, my questions were answered immediately and a date for the consultation/op was set.
I attended Mr Barnes private medical practice yesterday and he introduced himself right on time. I was taken through to the consulting room where an examination was done and then a very clear explanation of the findings (alongside my patient history) given. From there I was taken to the operating theatre where there were 3 other medical staff present.
Mr Barnes had asked if I wanted to have a running commentary of the op whilst it was carried out and, being very interested in the procedure, I said yes.
The actual procedure took approximately 40 minutes and was completely painless and not at all uncomfortable. Mr Barnes was incredibly calming, incredibly professional and incredibly good at what he does.
Post op I returned home with slight bleeding and a slight headache but as I sit here and write this the bleeding is no more, headache is gone and I’m breathing through my nose for the first time in years.
Mr Barnes you, sir, are a lifesaver and I cannot thank you enough.

Martin Barnes was very friendly, reassuring, helpful and kind. He put me at ease and explained everything very well.

Also the hospital facilities were great and the nursing care excellent

Was very knowledgable and took his time in Sorting my blocked ear out and will be using him next time .Money well spent

Martyn was really knowledgeable, professional and friendly, put me at ease straight away and helped discuss the best form of treatment etc. Procedure was relatively painless and simple. Communication was great, he was always on hand to answer any questions and queries I had via WhatsApp which was great.

After coping with nasal polyps for many years and told by my local hospital of a very long waiting list I decided to explore the internet and was grateful I found Consultant Martyn Barnes at 1St Clinic.
I spoke to the lovely lady on the switchboard who gave me all the details to make the appointment
I travelled from North Wales to Chelmsford Hospital for my appointment where all was explained to me by Consultant Martyn Barnes about the stay awake polyp removal.His consideration into my problem was very attentive and he made me feel at ease.
i was introduced to his pleasant staff who made me feel at ease also.
During the event Martyn talked me through the procedure as he went along which was a painless op.
I can now breath clearly through my nose and feel I have gained a further 10 years of my life.
More energy, sleeping better, eyes not watering and no more runny nose and headaches.
Not bad for a 81 year old youngster.
