Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 134 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently struggled with unhelpful support agents, extremely long phone wait times, and frustrating claims processes that often dragged on for months without any clear resolution. People also mentioned major difficulties reaching knowledgeable staff and dealing with unexpected claim rejections or heavily reduced settlement offers. However, some customers also noted very positive interactions with specific staff members who consistently provided helpful guidance during stressful situations. A few reviewers experienced fast and efficient roadside assistance or very friendly service for minor vehicle repairs like quickly fixing sudden windscreen chips.

I am genuinely surprised that AAMI has…

I am genuinely surprised that AAMI has such a low rating. It seems like a classic case where satisfied customers simply don't think to leave a review. In my experience, AAMI is an honest insurance company that operates with real integrity. After my car was written off, I had to deal with multiple staff members throughout the claims process. While one person along the way was a bit incompetent, that single interaction shouldn't overshadow what was otherwise a 5-star experience. The vast majority of the team members I spoke with were level-headed, professionals who just wanted to help. They ensured I received everything I was legally entitled to, and went above and beyond to support me. And the waiting times were SUPER QUICK - this is something AAMI has worked to improve.

Just rang AAMI road side assist for an overheating vehicle, the reprentatives have told us the coverage is only for flat tyres, keys lock in the car or for flat battery assistance, beyond that they are not willing to help with the vehicle for a week. We have called a mechanic who won't be able to look at the vehicle for almost a week, Though AAMI would at least let us utilise our coverage for them to check if the issue is a minor problem first up! AAMI have also told me there is only 1 tow option per year which seems to be a contradiction to the unlimited call outs that seem to be promoted via their internet promotions

I wish Minus stars were an option!!

If Zero stars were an option that would be more than they deserve or indeed minus -5 stars. These people are more competitive in the market because they use all the tricks they can to reject or reduce the claim or make you take a cash settlement so they can walk away. The reason to have insurance for most people is to offset the risk factor of the unknown like weather events, fires etc and to have help and support at a time of crisis and emergency. If that is what you are looking for DO NOT Expect to receive that from AAMI as they are they are more slippery than a barrel full of eels.
Avoid these rogues if you value yours and your family’s sanity.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. Never have I ever experienced such disgrace from an insurance company. I was involved in an accident back in April I received the details from the driver at fault and lodged it with AAMI. I then had to chase them 3 weeks later only to find out the gentleman that hit me cancelled his insurance that afternoon after the accident and cannot be located. 6 months later, a complaint with the ACCC this still is not resolved, I again was in an accident just recently involving a hit and run with a police report filed I went back to AAMI again as I pay them yearly over $1200 to make sure my car can be repaired, again because I don't have the details of the 3rd party they refuse to help me. I have provided a police report to them as the police won't disclose the third party details to my myself they have demanded I pay the excess from both accidents with a total of $2500 before they will even look at my car! What do I pay them for!? I have provided all evidence I am not at fault for both accidents instead you threaten me by telling me you will cancel my insurance because I demand you do your job!!

I was with AAMI for more than 30 years

I was with AAMI for more than 30 years, multiple policy holder, this year when the renewal for one of the car insurance policy’s arrived it had increased by more than $600.00 and yet I’d made no claims ? I telephoned AAMI call centre and entered up in some non English speaking company so not only was that frustrating it wasted my time, I then rang later that day, again an overseas call centre but was about to sort of communicate, I asked sbout the cost increase on my policy and why had it increased so much, clearly I was then being “ spoken at by a scripted response” I was so annoyed, I terminated the call, went onto the compare website and got a much better deal with a competitor who was more than $800.00 cheaper than AAMI, offers better policy options including a higher agreed value for the car, so I swapped the car, the house and the other car as well and saved just on $2000, so if AAMI had of listened to a very loyal customer of more than 30 years the outcome would have been different.

Got my buildings contents renewals terrible increas

Got my buildings contents renewals it's increased by 840 dollars in a yr where nothing's altered and I guarantee my husbands wages haven't increased by that much but Aami seem to think a 70 dollar increase pet month I'd acceptable, I called them and asked why they said building costs had gone up I said not my fault and that I hadn't claimed since I'd been with them so they were in the money and what I've paid over the yrs would cover rebuilding costs, they're diabolical I explained that for once insurance companies would be better looking after clients instead of grifting while things are so terribly expensive on people.

AAMI has a system that seems to…

AAMI has a system that seems to intentionally prevent customers from cancelling their policy. This is against the law.
A call centre rep tried to tell me it is easy to cancel.
It only allows you to request cancellation during business hours. Then when you contact during business hours, the online chat is always too busy, and when you call, it then says it will send an SMS with a prompt on cancelling. What is the point of only allowing customers to request cancellation during business hours, only to then send them a message to do it offline? Furthermore, it doesnt even send a message! Leaving you to try again in other ways. This is a messed up issue.
The worst part was hearing the agent doubt my claim and saying its easy to cancel. The only way to do it is by asking to speak to customer service without telling the IVR you want to cancel. I'm just in shock at how bad this system is. Raising this with onbudsman.

indefensible increase

Car is used 1-2 times per week, with an annual kilometrage of approx 5-7000. It is housed in a secure locked garage more than 95% of the entire week hours. The premium increased 25% with the car being a year older and insured for less and no claims in the 12 years.

Times must be tough at AAMI FOR them to spend al this time not to mention MONEY on an investigation { they hired a professional investigator. I mean I do seem suspect, NO CRIMINAL RECORD,several police checks been with them over 20 years never missed a payment, no longer married ( AAMI red flag 🚩 I guess, can’t work atm due to PTSD and poor mental health from my assault (s$) am I a red flag on is breaking a victim of crime an easy win? Knowing it will overwhelm me?

For an under $10k you will spend $40k investigating me when 2 males are in the LEGAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ( unlike AAMI) have been charged with the exact crime!!

I have been extremely disappointed with…

I have been extremely disappointed with my experience with AAMI following a car accident.

It has been around five months since my accident, and my claim is still not properly resolved. During this time, I have repeatedly been told that the matter would be dealt with “next week”, only for it to be delayed again.

The ongoing delays and lack of clear communication have been extremely frustrating. I understand that insurance claims can take time, but five months with repeated delays and no clear resolution is not the level of service I expected.

I have spent a lot of time following up on my own claim, and I feel that I have not received clear and consistent information about when the matter will actually be resolved.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend AAMI to someone who expects a straightforward and timely claims process.

Worst ever experience start to finish. First they denied the claim and only after a legal letter did they concede they were liable to pay. Then they didn’t follow due process to give me first recourse on buying the vehicle back once recovered, despite over 10 phone calls. Disgraceful

Worst customer support ever; don't use them if you live overseas

I would give them zero stars if I could; what awful customer support experience! Waited over 50 minutes at 2am in the morning my time to be told the person could not help and I need to call support.
I am in England and at first, they gave me an Australia only number. After I reminded them that I am in England and the number could not be dialled from overseas, they took another 10 minutes to give me a number I could dial.
Utterly pathetic, and I haven't even mentioned having to get past there useless bot before you connect to a "human"

I have had the most terrible experience…

I have had the most terrible experience with aami and its still going. Unfortunately i woke up on my day off to someone who had drunk drove into my driveway totally 2 mechanically sound cars. Obviously i have a police report number to give aami so they can do their jobs and go through police departments to access the mans name to wavier the excess also considering they were stationary cars. The run around that aami has put me through has been inane for 3 months they kept lying and saying the report number isn’t correct its doesnt exist to then myself stating i have a video of police in my driveway making the report on their tablets as well as the crash at 2am mind you then they say oh found it. To then say oh we cant access it due to your names not being on the report…… why would my name be on the report besides my car registration listed to my name when i did not plumet through my own driveway and totally my own car??? The insane audacity to ask me to go down to the police station more than 4 times which i have done too is disgusting. I have never heard of an insurance company asking their customers to do their work for them. The amount of emotion stress they are causing is insane. Don’t go to aami they treat you like dirt when you pay them for service and you get nothing.

I had a no-fault car accident last…

I had a no-fault car accident last weekend, and AAMI claims were very professional. The biggest issue I had was being able to reduce that crash cam video to a size acceptable for their uploading. It was quite stressful and AAMI were helpful. In the end Mr Google showed me a way to reduce the size whilst not losing the quality of the video. AAMI then received the video evidence, clearly showing it was not my fault and they waived the excess. I strongly advise you to get a crash cam, otherwise without it, I would have no proof it was not my fault and would have to pay the excess.

Such a disappointing experience with…

Such a disappointing experience with the claims process. My investment property was the target of a theft where all the copper wiring was stolen. I provided everything required — the police report, repair invoice, and photos of the damage.

Despite this, the claims managers, Ted and Jonathan, kept asking for more information again and again, even after I had already supplied every piece of evidence. The investigation dragged on endlessly with no clarity, no ownership, and no urgency.

Loyalty clearly means nothing to them. I’ve been with this insurer for years, hold multiple policies, and rarely make claims yet when I finally needed support, I was met with delays, repeated questioning, and a lack of respect for my time.
