Scammers stay clear

-10 too good for this company. Stay away. Booked a car through Opodo for the week we visiting Rhodes. Got collected at airport at around 8pm and taken to the rental depot. On arrival I get informed of the 1500€ holding fee as per booking but, also that the full insurance paid for does not cover the car. I must pay an additional 200€ for insurance. After about 30 minutes of debating, I get offered cheaper insurance with same cover. This scream scam all over it. Called Opodo help desk and they ask to speak to helpdesk. Lady at helpdesk refused to speak to Opodo. Ended up refusing to take car and waiting in cold for taxi to hotel. Totally worst start to holiday ever with scammers trying to take money from tourists. Do yourself a favour and stay clear.

Trash

Trash , not a service !!!
I had a very terrible experience in Antalya,Turkey.
They substitute booking to a cheaper local agencies who does not have a clue of the level of service we expect .
Warning lights on a dashboard, nor cleaned/smelly cars
They don't fill fuel - so you must drive our with an empty tank.
Disgusting!!!

The worst car rental in the world

I rented a car at AbbyCar in Thessaloniki. I was charged for € 992 for a damage caused to the car. I paid for the insurance to be fully refunded in case of a crash. But after 4 months AbbyCar was not able to give the insurance a list of the costs to repair the car. So I paid for insurance and for the damage without being refunded.
Absolutely avoid renting a car from AbbyCar, they are not reliable at all.

Worst experience ever.

Worst experience ever.
Terrible service, destroyed and smelly cars, rude staff, and on top of that, I was extorted when returning the car. Both at pickup and drop-off, there were no employees available to assist. Honestly, don’t waste a single cent on this company. The cars didn’t even come with a wheel wrench in case of a flat tire.

Good car hire agent

Good service at the counter to handover the car. Did not have any mechanical issues with the car. The rates provided are very competitive with additional services that some customers regard as essential which they can buy at the counter.
Car is handed over in good condition, but there is always room for improvement to get the car in better condition.

Never hire a car from this company

This company are bunch of crooks. Their prices are cheap but there cars are in poor condition and they make their money charging for existing wear and tear claiming it is hirer's responsibility. Their operation at Heraklion Airport on Crete is pretty much a criminal enterprise. They'll take money off your card after you return the car and not provide any paperwork to explain what this is for. If you want a relaxing holiday, don't touch them with a bargepole!

Stay away From Abbycar Rentals

Stay away!!!! FAR!
Booked a car, full extras, all insurance option, when arrived at the delivery agency, it was a +100 000 worn out substandard fiat panda. Nothing else was available, peak of summer. Still, got on with it, made all sorts of noises, irregular engine, high fuel consumption, etc.. crap. When returned that, days later got a +360 euro charge because (they said) the car was used off road and that was the charge to inspect any damage. No evidence provided, no information within the vehicle, nothing. Was robbed +360 euro over what i already had paid and got a crappy car.

AbbyCar rental is a hoax!

I was supposed to pick up a car at their rental just outside the airport. Shuttle bus there was ok. That was all that was ok!
The car with insuranse was paid for up front (internet).
When we arrived at the frontdesk the woman asked for a credit card with pressed (or touchable) name and number on the card. I have both credit and debit cards. Modern ones. Without the old fashioned pressed print on the card. My cards were useless there. I could not pay for anything. She wanted 1000 Euro cash for aa deposit ++
I had allready paid for the car. I could not do anything more than go back to the airport and rent directly through Hertz(they av professional!)
Abbycar is a hoax. Never again!

Truly awful, absolute cowboys

Truly awful, I wish I'd read the reviews.

There was never any mention of a late pick up charge of 35 Euros when our flight landed at 10pm, to the contrary, it clearly stated no additional fees were payable.

The ride, arrogant and completely disinterested Abbycar agent advised that we paid it or lose the booking. Ideal on a late Friday evening when we were already miles away from the airport.

The response to our complaint has been just to ignore us, absolute cowboys.

Insurance scam!

Insurance scam!
The rental process with this company was straightforward at first, and I found the initial online price to be very reasonable. However, when I arrived to pick up the vehicle, I was surprised to be offered additional insurance, even though I had already selected and paid for full coverage online. The sales agents seemed to pressure customers into purchasing this extra insurance, creating confusion around what was actually covered...

It's helpful to thoroughly read your initial rental agreement to understand what's included and avoid duplicating insurance coverage. This could save you from unexpected expenses and ensure a smooth rental experience.

I ended up paying more than double what I initially booked online!!!

Abbycar Car Rental Review: A Truly Disappointing Experience

**Abbycar Car Rental Review: A Truly Disappointing Experience**

If you're considering renting from Abbycar, think twice! My recent experience was a blend of frustration, subpar service, and frankly, what felt like outright dishonesty.

### Insurance Scam & Deposit Issue
Upon arrival, I was told I could avoid a deposit by purchasing a $100 insurance package. However, once I declined, they immediately reversed the terms, stating I couldn’t take the car without paying a deposit. They then proceeded to reject three of my credit cards, even though all were perfectly functional. When I contacted my card providers, I was informed that none of my payment attempts had even reached them—indicating that Abbycar's card machine wasn't processing payments at all. It felt like a deliberate attempt to force me into purchasing their insurance. Ultimately, I was left with no choice but to buy the insurance.

### Poor Vehicle Quality
The car provided was far from acceptable: it had over 134,000 miles on the odometer, the check engine light was on, and crucial lights like the tail and registration plate lights didn’t work. Additionally, the car was filthy, with stains all over the seats and an unpleasant odor in the interior. To make matters worse, the auto stop-start system was also malfunctioning, making me question the safety of the vehicle.

### Shady Business Practices
To add insult to injury, an Abbycar employee casually mentioned that booking directly through them in the future would save me the deposit fee, as it would allow them to avoid agency fees (in my case, via Expedia). This statement confirmed my suspicion that they push customers to buy additional insurance as a way to recoup agency fees, along with some extra profit.

### Final Thoughts
Overall, this was one of the worst car rental experiences I’ve ever had. Abbycar's manipulative tactics, combined with a poorly maintained vehicle, left me feeling scammed and frustrated. I would strongly advise others to avoid this company at all costs—there are plenty of reputable options out there that prioritize honesty and customer satisfaction.

Scammers

We arrived late at night and we're picked up by the shuttle bus only to be taken to the middle of nowhere (not really an airport pickup). Once there, we were told that our credit card and insurance weren't valid and wouldn't need to buy their's which would be €175, double that of the car rental itself. Would not recommend, spend the extra cash on a more reputable company.

Bucharest airport - don't touch Abbycar

Hired via a broker who told us supplier was Abbycar. Turns out Abbycar are also a broker as the people who met us at the terminal were Expedicar. Couldn't hire the car because they insisted they needed an embossed/3D credit card to block the excess on the insurance, although most UK cards are no longer embossed but smooth. Of course they would have had no problem taking payment for their own additional insurance via the same card! Told them to cancel the hire and went inside terminal to Sixt instead who were very helpful.

Awful rental company

Can’t express how bad this rental service is. Would not recommend anyone to use it. We arrived at Rhodes rental and were greeted with extremely rude staff. My dad who was the main driver does not have his own credit card and never has, so they would not allow us to continue without paying €600 (not refundable). The couple next to us experienced the exact same issue. The staff had such an attitude it was mind blowing. They also charge €150 fine for any sand in the car on return. Massive scam, do not use.

Creditcard unjustly refused for deposit

Booked a car for 9 days in Romania via Abbycar, assuming it's a direct rental company, and took additional insurance. Upon arrival, car turned out to be from local rental company Expedicars and their employee refused to accept my creditcard to block the necessary deposit (since insurance through Abbycars was a "money back" type a security deposit was still necessary, which is fine; locally taken insurance to reduce deposit to 0,- is a scam and very expensive, often multiple times the actual car rent rate....). I clearly explained it' s a creditcard and thus to be accepted by terms & conditions but because of Vpay functionality mentioned on the back with word "debit" the employee did not believe me and even refused to try, which forced me to pay 300,- (!!) extra on the spot for additional insurance to reduce deposit to 0,-. Obviously, there's not much choice left when put under pressure on the spot with luggage and a destination to go.
I contacted Abbycar (via mail, no phone number mentioned on their site....) to complain and demand money back for the useless extra insurance but they responded by stating that "debit cards are not accepted" even though I meanwhile very clearly explained and proved that I had a credit card and refusing this is contrary to their own (and actual rental companies' ) terms & conditions. They even seem to lie referring to "own investigation" which can not be true because the fact I have a credit card is very obvious and clearly proven. I have paid double now for insurance and still awaiting a response, offering money back for the unfairly imposed and unnecessary additional insurance, which seems very reasonable considering the bad treatment and breach of terms & conditions.
P.s. please be advised Abbycar (at least in some countries) acts as broker just as sites like rentalcars.com or Expedia. Contrary to those, this is however not clearly mentioned on their site and they will not show details of the actual rental company involved. They can also not be reached by phone in case of emergency.

Car rental company ABBYCAR rental: cheaters and swindlers!!!

Car rental company ABBYCAR rental: cheaters and swindlers!!!
Ref. 14195004109
Booking number GR301536240
We booked our flight tickets with eDreams on September 4 and this went perfectly and the handling was completely satisfactory. We received an offer for car rental via their site and because we had confidence in it, we decided to also rent a car there for two weeks.
When we arrived at the airport we were taken by van to an industrial estate about a 15 minute drive from the airport, when we arrived we were received by the service employee who asked us all the papers, to my horror I discovered that I had the wrong visa card brought from the Netherlands and suggested that we could use my wife's visa card, something we always did at every car rental company around the world.
Of course I completely understood that I was wrong because the contract stated that only the visa card of the main driver was valid, so I proposed to make my wife the main driver on the spot, but nothing was possible, even when I indicated to call eDreams to explain my situation, the atmosphere only became more complex and the counter service employee said, then you should leave because you won't get your money back and even her boss made stupid comments, which I understood because I happen to speak Greek.
Suddenly she came up with a proposal, if you take out insurance with us and pay €200 extra for it and then also €100 deposit, then I can arrange something for you, that is very strange and is a complete scam, but Because we couldn't arrange anything else, we had to do it!
We had booked a Volkswagen T-Cross SUV or something similar because we wanted a car with a high entry and on the day itself I received an email from ABBYCAR that it would be a Kia tonic, which was fine with me.
However, after all that hassle at that office, they showed up with a Hyundai i20 BAYON, completely covered in scratches and damage, a terrible car with far too low an entry, absolutely not compared to what we had booked, I asked the service employee if that I couldn't get anything else with any additional payment, to which her boss replied in his Greek to her, they shouldn't whine so much and just accept this and then he walked away, the service employee said he was having a bad day, well well!
I took a lot of pictures of all the scratches and damage because I was afraid that they would start talking about it when I got back, and yes, you guessed it, what a bunch of cheaters they are!
He started saying that the photos did not clearly show that the damage was already there when we picked it up and that we had caused it, well no!!! I really had to talk and say that I was absolutely not responsible for this and that the service employee who was there at the time really knew about it.
After a lot of hassle, I got my €100 deposit back and the scammers took us to the airport by bus back to the Netherlands.
I therefore place total responsibility for all this with eDreams because these scammers offer this via their site and want the €200 overpaid insurance costs via ABBYCAR back from eDreams.
If you google the name ABBYCAR Rental you will only come across negative reports that they are scammers, I wish I had done that earlier before booking this via eDreams.
