If I could give this no stars I would

If I could give this no stars I would - complete scammers - won’t let you cancel your membership, tell you you have to pay even when you have clearly cancelled and still take money from your account. Ugly men too. Do not touch with a barge pole.

HELP ME??

I signed up my mom for a premium membership on this site, but I put my bank to be charged. Instead of cancelling the agreement with them, I shut down my bank account because I didn't need that bank anymore, and I thought that Academic Singles can't do anything about it.
I was wrong - they are threatening us that they will sue us if I don't pay, that there will be automatic renewal each month, and that if I don't pay, that the cost will be even bigger because they will start some automatic procedures with much higher costs for us.
Is there any lawyer or some person with knowledge about this? Can they really sue us and how to get away from this?

If I could give a 0 star review I…

If I could give a 0 star review I would! My mam agreed to pay 4.99 fee and her bank informed her yous have been taken more money after she deleted the membership! Have tried contacting yous and don’t even bother using the trust pilot email - I have tried that also and each time get an automatic response that my email isn’t going to get a reply! Yous are a fraudulent company and she does not owe yous any money so the threatening emails can stop right now !!! Yous won’t be getting another penny out of her! Disgrace of a service try take any more money or send any more threatening emails we will be taking this further and by looking at the reviews on this I can see she isn’t the first person yous have scammed!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

I completely agree! This dating site is horrible. I only read a review from dating scout dot com and I am guessing they were paid because they gave this trash a good review. UGH. What a waste of time and of money! Trying to figure out how to cancel ... ugh.

Terrible website

Terrible website. A lot of fake accounts. After I subscribed to the membership I wouldn't find anywhere that I can unsubscribe. I have to cancel my credit card in case they take money from my account. Really shocking.

Absolutely the worst dating site I have…

Absolutely the worst dating site I have ever been on.!! I joined for a month and then after seeing how false it all was I decided to unsubscribe. I then got told to write a letter to Luxembourg because they needed a signature. I did this and 2 months later they took £131:77 out of my bank account. I immediately went on the site to unsubscribe filled in my details and progressed to send. It came back unsuccessful each time. I then went to my bank and they took over for me. They blocked my card and sent me a new one.
I would not recommend anyone joining this site its basically a Scam!!!!

If you are looking for someone educated…

If you are looking for someone educated and intelligent or at least genuine, AcademicSingles is the wrong place. It's like a ghost town.
And one more thing I should mention about AcademicSingles, if you do decide to check it out, read the fine print carefully and make sure you find the hidden ways to disable automatic renewal of your subscription.

Do not use this site

Do not use this site, they use bogus accounts to lure you in. You think you are signing up for a month, then you'll be drawn into a longer subscription, I still can't find where to cancel the membership, the email address bounces back so you can't even get in touch to discuss. Don't touch with a barge pole, they should be reported to the ombudsman.

Worst site ever-avoid at all costs.

Absolutely do not touch this site.
Its a massive con.
I signed up for a month...it appeared to cost 12.99 when in actual fact that was a weekly cost. Unfortunately I signed up and get billed for £52 and had no idea why. The selection of 'academics' is
pathetic. Most of the men are high school educated....not exactly what is says on the tin. Most were much too old, unsuitable, unattractive and live miles away. This has got to be the worst site out there. Be careful. Avoid at all costs.

're. STOR SVINDEL

I would be interested in taking up litigation as I have had a similar experience in terms of being unable to cancel the contract and the company taking money from my account on a 6 monthly basis.

This company are fraudulent

This company are fraudulent, robbing, disgusting, unscrupulous, and it's unbelievable that they seem to be getting away with it over and over again.
As evidently many others before me, I signed up to a small £7.99 a month. They took almost £200 out of my bank.
Tried to phone and email.. I was receiving emails back from them, unlike others. However, I notice that they have responded to some of the reviews. And provided an email to write to. However, no one seems to get a reply with that email.
The email that they did respond to is here.
customerservice @ academicsingles. co. uk
But with no spaces. Can't leave the review with an email in. This is how these companies prosper.

I also found their own cancellation form and cancelled within a few days. From the moment of cancelling they stopped replying. On the day I signed up, I contacted PayPal to try to get my money back. However, this company have apparently provided 'proof of shipping'. PayPal are investigating it. If that proves to be ineffective, my bank have said they may be able to help. I am going to contact watchdog, and get this publicised to raise awareness of this dodgy, low life, stealing, lying and clearly fraudulent company.

On this form it requests an email to allow academic singles to contact me. I won't hold my breath!!

Stay away

I joined the dating site today with the hopes that it may connect me with an intellectual likeminded person with the same level of education and frame of reference.

I made payment of a one month subscription. I was apalled on what I found on the site. It is definitely not what they advertise. Most profiles are fake or not what is promised. Or the matches are my father's age and it doesnt look like the any of the men has academic qualifications.
Some of the guys on there can not even spell and asked me for money and airtime?!

In a response to my dissappointment I researched the site and saw several negative reveiws. I wish I did it before I joined.

I gave formal notice to terminate my subscription. I note that a 14 calender day notice is required in terms of their t & c's.

If attempts are made to take more money from me after the one month period, I will not hesitate to seek legal recourse and to expose this site for what is. A scam. Designed to abuse the loneliness and hopes of people for financial gain. The terms and conditions contravene consumer protection legislation and the modus operandi is illegal. The terms and coditions they rely on are null and void in terms of South African laws.

I note that a notice must be sent to a UK fax number, rendering it almost impossible for South Africans to cancel automatic renewed transcriptions. This is an absolute disgrace.

I already have a draft complaint ready for the consumer commission. I am also in the process of tracing the company registration details and any other other information I can find for the purposes of possible litigation. In a perfect world this should be one of the instances where directors and CEO's should face criminal charges and be held personally liable.

AVOID ITS A SCAM OUT OF LUXEMBOURG

AVOID ITS A SCAM OUT OF LUXEMBOURG. They entice you by sending 'interested' profiles you cannot communicte with, say to do so is 6.99/7.99 for 6 months then sneakily take £191.76. The profiles are mostly fake, algorithm generated. e.g. recommending women of heights of 6'10 as Im tall! Pure theft. Stay Away!

We are talking about a fraud

We are talking about a fraud. I signed up for a month, tried to delete my account after 2 days, couldn’t manage that, and now they are trying to take money from my account. I am going to court with them. They have no contact whatsoever. It’s a fraud.
