How, why and making the learning experience purposeful beyond the immediate goal of accent reduction
I looked for a coach because I wanted to improve my accent to decrease negative unconscious bias and potentially increase positive bias at work.
I also like doing things right, so taking the time to finally correct bad habits was important to me.
I found Dillon via Fiverr, the testimonies were convincing and I liked his view that being taught by a non-native who overcame difficulties I face is a sensible approach.
Since I started benefiting from his classes, I have appreciated how they are tailored to my needs and pace.
Dillon is generous in sharing his insights, tips and extensive knowledge. He's s also very patient and understanding.
His structured method and extensive note taking remove a lot of my burden as a student, so I can focus on what actually helps me improve the most.
While I still have much to improve, I'm proud of my progress, even if sometimes it's just about being able to identify a mistake I do and then correct it on the spot. There are also many things I was not aware of before that make me feel like I now have a deeper understanding of sounds and rythm for example.
This sense of understanding both the why and the how is very motivating. It makes learning purposeful, it's not just about getting a better accent, it's also an intelectual endeavor to appreciate what's behind. The more I learn from Dillon the more I want to know.
