Appalling custom service

Mick Hurley , Ireland
Rented a car in Memmingen airport from Alamo recently with (full cover ) this was a work trip and i had a very tight schedule to keep. Around 6 hours after picking up the car , I got a flat tyre in a remote part of southern Germany 2-3 km from the nearest village, rang the help line and they organised breakdown assistance (this would not be necessary if the vehicle had a spare wheel but of course it didn’t)
The breakdown truck took over 3 hours after I was told it would take 45min to 1 hour , the recovery guy was there for the car only with no replacement car or means of repairing the tyre he was there to take the car and leave me stranded, only for I forcing him the make a call to organise a replacement car it would never have been arranged again during that call they said this replacement car would be with me in 45min it took 4 hours, in total I waited 7 hours on side of the road in the dark this to me is probably of the worst customer service I have ever experienced ( I would strongly recommend not using this company for car rental in that part of Germany) it was appalling treatment of a paying customer never again ,and the cherry on top , they charged me excess on mileage which I know I had only clocked 150-170km max

ALAMO Doesn't respect its customers with car reservations

I made the car reservation at ALAMO RENT A CAR through Rocketmiles, from July 19th to 29th, when I arrived at ALAMO RENTA CAR in Ezeiza - Argentina they did not have the type of car booked, (they did not have car availability) so they "KINDLY" proceeded to cancel my reservation and assured me that they would refund my money. It's been 75 days and I haven't received a response to the emails sent to Lifemiles (they say it's only the means of payment), rocketmiles (they say it's only the means for booking) and ALAMO (they say... NOTHING, THEY DON'T RESPOND, they just say send information to Complaints link), and my $613.59 was never returned. Who can give an answer? Who responds?

Cheaters

We rented a 7 seats car with full coverage, we paid for it, when we arrived, we were said that we needed two debit cards under the same name, since we had two cards but not under the same name, we were not given the car and they said that they didn't know if we will get our money back.

We rented an intermediate car chicago O’Hare Airport

We rented an intermediate car on 9/11/2024 around 15.30. It was at O’Hare Airport in Chicago. The lady in the Alamo car delivery was very helpful in getting our CarPlay set. The first car was difficult to manage, so she decided to give us another car which was much easier to connect to our phone. We were very happy with the help because for us it was already late in the evening due to our long flight into Chicago.

Would still hire from Alamo in the future !!!

Have hired cars from Alamo since back in 2000 we have just recently came back from holiday in Boston and New England. The car we were supposed to receive was an intermediate, however we were allocated a full size Toyota Camry. When hiring a car I always video around the exterior of the car, and certainly on this occasion as there was minor scrapes scuffs and dings. This was a 2023 model with just shy of 39000 miles on the clock, since covid I feel that the hire cars tend to be kept for longer and have a higher mileage than pre covid !!! I also noticed that although the car had been washed and hoovered, that the passenger seat had a spill on it during a much earlier hire at some time during its life. Obviously this hadn’t been cleaned properly by the customer or by Alamo, so therefore the seat had a dirty ingrained stain. The car itself was a lovely car to drive and gave no issue during our hire period. On returning the car there was no issues and everything went smoothly. I have only issued 3 Stars due to the fact of the scuffs and dings and dirt ingrained seat. All other previous hires I would have given 5 stars.

ZERO STARS

ZERO STARS! AVOID AVOID AVOID!

20km onto our drive the engine warning lights came on and the vehicle went in to limp-mode on a very busy motorway heading out of Marseille airport.
We had to arrange our own breakdown as Alamo refused to do it. It took two hours to turn up after many phone calls back and forth with Alamo.
The breakdown service wouldn't take the vehicle as it was "drivable" in limp-mode. This is the agreement they have with Alamo.
So back onto a very busy 130kmp motorway at 18kmp which is all the vehicle would do.
Managed to get off at the next junction without getting killed. More phone calls to Alamo to get a replacement vehicle, with always a promise they would ring back but they never did. Limped 35km to the hotel trying to use back roads to avoid accidents. Eventually at the hotel another phone call and again a promise of a return call from management. Guess what? The office closed and no call was recieved.
This is the worst company of any kind I've ever dealt with EVER.
LET'S SEE WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS!
Oh, and I had a 95year old in the car with me

UPDATE - No return phone call in the morning and when I rang them again "surprise" they have no record of my phone calls.
I took matters into my own hands and drove (in limp-mode) to the nearest Alamo office. I was then told that there are no cars available and would have to drive back to where I picked it up from. This would have been impossible due to the engine being stuck in limp-mode. After having a very forceful conversation with the staff we were driven to what amounted to a back street garage with empty beer bottles, litter and an old mattress strewn all over the lot.
We were given a much lower spec vehicle which was badly damaged on every panel and bumper, filthy on the inside and out and not fully fuelled up.
No help was proffered to us to try and resolve what was Alamo's issue with a faulty, dangerous vehicle.
No effort was made by Alamo staff to get us a vehicle which worked.

THE WORST COMPANY I'VE EVERY DEALT WITH!

Didn't have car ready

Arrived at Belfast Airport for car pick up booked for 12.30pm ended up with several other people waiting for over 45 mins for it to be 'CLEANED' . I also over heard one of their team chatting saying it was total chaos . It sounds like this regularly happens here. Car was old and really not great shape can't see that the standard of the cars are that good . Never again - Customer service when approached sent a very standard reply

Got stranded in the dessert in BC

Got stranded in the dessert in BC, large expensive car for three weeks just decided not to run anymore. They basically left us there and told us to make our own way to them with 3 kids and a lot of luggage, had to hitchhike (no taxi or shuttle in the region) to the nearest Alamo office in Kamsloop who hadn’t been informed, no car available. Couldn’t ring an international phone number back to tell us what’s going on and they couldn’t reach Alamo office at Kamloop airport. The guy at Kamloop airport was friendly and did his best but had no idea that we were coming.
Points of improvement to Alamo:
1. Be able to call international phone numbers!
2. Have established relationships with transport providers for the people so clients are not left to hitchhike with kids and luggage as the tow truck can only take one person
3. Make sure that your staff is able to always reach an Alamo office with an emergency number
We will not use Alamo again as a rental company. My husband owns a travel company and due to these fundamental process failures he wil also move his business away from Alamo.

No customer service and location fee rip-off!

Everything was fine picking up the car at Manchester airport UK.
Returning the car I was charged for refueling when I had deliberately chosen the prepay option on pick-up. It was computer issue I was told.
I questioned via email to customer service on 3 separate occasions in July....no response at all.
They also charge a 20% premium location fee at the end. That 20% ripoff includes your entire billing so if you purchased their expensive insurance that's a lot of fee expense. How do they get away with it?
Stay clear of Alamo and it's affiliate companies and go anywhere else.

Alamo is a SCAM

We hired a car at Dublin Airport last September (2023)for 1 week. They tried to offer us to use a device so we didn't have to keep paying toll. I refused because it would have costed me 30 euros more just for the pleasure having the devise in the car. After we returned the car on 22nd September, they checked everything and closed the agreement. I asked if there is any outstanding and they said none. in October I saw a transaction from Alamo for 2nd October- Toll payment. I called them and after been putting on hold for over 10 minutes and cost me over 5 euros, someone answered and he could not understand what the charge was for. He said he would give a refund of 50 euros. But that was a big fat lie. He never did and never replied my email. They are nothing but a company that will try to scam their customers. I rather crawl with my barefoot than hire a car with Alamo. Anyone who is considering Alamo, please avoid them at all cost.

Gong Show

Booked a car through Expedia. Landed in Saskatoon, Sask and headed to the counter. There was a line of over a dozen people. There was one person working the counter for National, Enterprise and Alamo. After standing in line for over about 45 min I went to Avis. About a minute later the whole line moved. They were all told that there was no cars and they should go to Avis. What a gong show. Complete incompetence.

BIG SCAMMERS AND UNTRUSTWORTHY

Unfortunately I left my sunglasses case (with my sunglasses inside) at the office when I returned the car.

Once I arrived at the airport, I realized that I had left my sunglasses there. It was about an hour after I had been there. So, I immediately contacted Soukaina Moussaid since she was my point of contact.

She told me that no sunglasses had been found and that they had thoroughly checked everything. Additionally, my sunglasses case is very large and hard to miss.

The next day I asked her to check the camera footage, but she said that nothing was visible on it.

I mentioned that someone would come by to verify this. About 25 minutes later, I received a message that they had been found.

She sent me a photo of my sunglasses case with the sunglasses inside WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE. I confirmed that they were mine. I had already mentioned several times that they were Versace sunglasses.

All by all, she also sent me a video showing that she had sealed the case with tape and placed a paper with my details.

When I received my sunglasses and removed the tape, I saw that they were completely damaged (all sides).

It is very clear that this was done deliberately. I still do not understand why this happened! I find this truly shameless. As you can see on the pictures, this is clearly sabotage.

Customer support couldn’t do anything because of lack of evidence... oh yeah I would certainly damage my own sunglasses of €300 🙄 Very bad customer service. Their CRM Salma Matrane is from global lease in Casablanca. They do everything to protect their staff. But don’t forget, God sees everything.

I find it so unfortunate that such people still exist.

What's with the staff at Alamo these…

What's with the staff at Alamo these days. They act like they really don't give a s**t about anyone. Not just at the front desk but also in the parking area. At reception they upsold me to an Audi Q5, which was good since I drive the same, but it was a really dumbed down version. No GPS, with or without the ability to use my Apple phone. No wireless ability. No windscreen warnings, no this and no that - all included on a basic Q5. They surely must have paid more than the basic Q5 just to have those things removed! When I asked about GPS the service person didn't say anything (now I know, he didn't know and couldn't be bothered to check). There wasn't anything in the car so I went back and got one of their Tom-Toms. Even the guy outside wanted me to change cars to the one nearest to him so he didn't have to go get the Q5 from the garage! Oh well, at least their check-in was great!
