I decided to try Allurion hoping to…



I decided to try Allurion hoping to take advantage of the much-vaunted early satiety effect to finally lose about 10 kilograms of excess weight.

The placement procedure was unbearable, as I struggled to control gag reflexes caused by hypersalivation. However, that wasn’t the main issue. Neither were the three subsequent days of EXCRUCIATING CRAMPS (barely responsive to intramuscular antispasmodics, despite my generally high pain threshold—and I say this with full awareness as a surgeon by profession, understanding from a medical perspective what is normal and what isn’t).

The real issue lies in the complete failure during the following weeks. Once I overcame the initial psychological terror—being told that eating larger quantities would cause significant discomfort—I discovered that Allurion did not induce any sense of early satiety.

Out of pure curiosity, I ate the same portions I had been told I wouldn’t be able to manage, only to find that there was absolutely no issue doing so. Contrary to the claims, Allurion did not affect my ability to consume normal amounts of food.

Now, two months later, I still experience an unpleasant sense of discomfort when lying on my back. I have also developed issues such as excessive burping, acid reflux, and constipation—conditions I had never experienced before in my life.

Adding to this is the painful frustration of having spent money on a device that, on balance, has only brought me physical and mental discomfort.

I do not suffer from obesity; my issue was mild overweight. My advice? Spend that money on a gym membership instead—don’t waste it on this useless device.

P.S. I have never written a review for anything in my life. The anger I feel over being misled by this device has compelled me to write one, hoping to dissuade someone who, like me, struggles with losing weight. Instead, consider undergoing surgery—it’s a far better option.

Dr Gulden Balli - Concorde Beauty - Izmir

I travelled to Izmir Turkey to have Dr Gulden Balli of Concorde Beauty assist with my Allurion Balloon. Dr Balli & her team - nutritionist & translator were extremely professional during the whole process and aftercare and with their guidance I reached my goal weight. Having had this procedure done by them the cost was so much cheaper than doing it in the UK, I cannot recommend them highly enough

Great customer service

Great consult

I had a consult with Joy, and she was very helpful and informative. I am still thinking about the balloon as my GP has recommended surgery, but I am impressed with the information I was given and will speak to the clinic.

Not for the faint hearted - but definitely works.

I was very sceptical about the Allurion balloon. I must admit the adverts on Instagram etc. all seemed quite farfetched.

I decided to go through with it, when I was approved to have it paid for through my Superannuation, which meant my only out of pocket expenses would be medication taken during the process.

I have lost approx., 15 kilograms in 18 weeks and my family and friends keep being shocked in my weight/shape change. I am now considering a career change, because I find fitness is something that I can more readily approach. I no longer get joint pains when walking or using stairs, and I am sleeping better and have greater mobility.

The first 6 days after placement were extremely unpleasant. I won't butter this up, I genuinely was heavily considering getting it removed on day 2-4 due to the fact I couldn't eat at all without vomiting. Once day 6 rolled around I realised I was good on soft liquid-ish foods such as custard proteins etc. I lost 4.5kgs within the first week due to my body not really knowing what to do.

The following week it all settled down, and I was able to reintroduce foods that I was more accustomed to. I found I was comfortably able to move to a 1550 calorie diet without feeling hungry, and after 4 weeks on the program started Mounjaro to reduce the snacking that I was tempted by.

I now am fairly confident that my balloon has broken down (I believe I'm on week 19) and my weight has stayed low, and I am remaining on my 1550 calorie diet.

I think this is a great program if you have the flexibility to take about a week off work and are willing to forsake some sleep etc. You will experience reflux, cramps, discomfort and nausea for a good week, and I would suggest getting yourself on Esomeporazole for reflux for the duration of the program.

I have not been as skinny as I am now since I was a teenager, and I have genuinely battled with my weight for a decade.

I will rate this 5 starts and I have suggested the program to some colleagues who are battling their weight loss.

My lessons learnt were:
1. Take a week or perhaps 10 days off work or expectations (have a partner watch the kids etc) because you'll feel really REALLY gross.

2. Consider it a way to help you make the lifestyle change. I found I needed to start buying ready-made meals like MyMuscleChef etc. to start better tracking my calorie intake. and this means I had to use MyFitnessPal to track my intakes to better understand what changes I needed to make to continue this path moving forward

3. USE THE MEDICATION! They give you a lot of medication to reduce cramps and help you sleep - I was a 'trooper' and tried to not use it. By day three my partner told me I was being an idiot and to 'take the damn pills'. I would never tell her, but she was right.

4. Avoid greasy, fatty or oily foods. I have found I cannot eat Pizza at all. But if I go to the pub I can have a steak or even an Entree for a full meal with no issues.

Good luck! I think it's worthwhile.

Awful weight loss treatment

Awful weight loss treatment, have felt horrendous for weeks since having it fitted. You eat healthy you get full of wind, you eat bad you get full of wind, you can’t win unless you go for liquid only option. The scales didn’t link to the app, the Fitbit didn’t link to the app and in the end I just felt like some guinea pig trying to help a company work out their software issues. I wanted to loose weight not keep sending screenshots to try and solve issues.
Honestly 4K is a lot to pay to feel terrible. I think there are better more comfortable options out there.
I have lost weight but I’d rather of been how I was before, fatter and healthier. There are alot of foods you can’t eat but you end up figuring this out yourself. Something healthy like spinach is an absolute no no, may as well eat chocolate.
Everyone around me has commented on how my physical health has deteriorated since I had this balloon. Be prepared to pay out for vitamins, my list is endless just trying to get some normality back into my life. I’m only grateful that this is not a permanent fixture because I would definitely loose the will to live!!!!

From the day I decided to have a…

From the day I decided to have a gastric balloon till now, I have seen a great service and interest. They were 7/24 available when I needed help and they were smiling all the time which makes the process the best. There can be challenges during the first 2-3 days but you can overcome those challenges with the instructions given by our doctor Mrs.Gülden. Overall, it was and is a great experience and I highly recommend to anyone who wants to lose weight easy, fast and healthy.

I was in two minds ...but it was best thing ever

I was in two minds about moving forward with my thoughts on an Allurion insertion as I am older than most having it fitted (I am 68) and would be travelling alone... I need not have worried Terry Smith introduced the Company from the UK based office he replied to my original enquiry and ensured I was a positive fit for the balloon health wise age wise and was certain of my choices in a very positive way... he then forwarded my name to the contact in Turkey.... I was contacted by a lovely lady who answered all my many questions within minutes of my asking them even if it was late at night reassuring me on every step.. I pulled out once for a few days she still supported me then I came back .. she was always there 24-7 virtual hand holding.... she arranged for me to be met at the airport by a lovely driver holding my name up on a board clear and right by the exit.... the hotel was more than adequate comfortable and clean (I stayed an extra 3 days to get used to balloon which wasn't needed but an extra day is not a bad idea) my contact was professional, friendly, kind, understanding , supportive and just wonderful.... I met her at the hospital door when picked up by taxi and taken to the hospital / clinic (all arranged for me) I had the balloon insertion (my swallowing experience may be different from yours but it was supported, kind, unrushed and gentle, in a room with an x ray machine and 3 staff) I was returned to the hotel and waited for the pain! It never arrived the cramps the sickness the diarrhea none of it arrived... I did as I was told I rested, I slept, I sipped water and took my pills. and although jaded I was not in pain. I was collected and taken back to the airport (all arranged for me) my journey home was in No way uncomfortable..... I do miss food! I am in week 2 and my brain wants food but my stomach does not ... I drink only half a cup of tea / coffee never a full cup... any food is on a side plate never a whole plate ... I have lost 10lb in 2 weeks.... I have suffered from wind pain and been belching more than normal... I am just starting to not notice / feel the balloon inside me. Overall it was a great decision a thing I did for me alone with such a massive support group all staff within Allurion group i never felt alone or scared.. Thank you for every detail covered every promise kept every statement true.... great advice throughout and such positive clean conditions..... Made the best choice ever.... feel safe go ahead and book in with Allurion in Turkey .... just make an enquiry on Allurion Web page and they do the rest...... I am in UK I am a real person and this us a genuine review.

Good experience with advisor…

I booked a call with an advisor yesterday and was phoned today by Natalie at the scheduled time.
She was very informative and her knowledge was thorough. There is a clinic close to me, which is convenient. Natalia was friendly and professional, not pushy at all.
I would like to look further into the Allurion Program as my weight loss solution after discussing it in more detail with my doctor.

Provided everything that I expected

Provided everything that I expected, needed and wished for!

I am very happy with the experience of having an Allurion balloon. I saw an advert on the Internet and received a call back from Terry Smith to check that I was suitable. I was recommended to attend the clinic at Spire Hospital, Southampton.

I wanted to lose about 10kg and have achieved this to take me out of the overweight category. I also wanted to change my eating habits. I was comfort eating and have slowly put on weight over the last 4 years. I am now back to the weight I was then and I am very happy with this. The balloon has helped me to manage the temptation to overeat and the work with the nutritionist has created much healthier eating habits. I now feel that I know what works for me to maintain a healthy weight.

I have been well supported throughout the experience but without feeling I was being micro-managed.

The first two weeks were often uncomfortable but the results are well worth any discomfort felt.

I am anxious about the loss of the balloon but hope that I should be able to maintain my new weight.

I had my balloon fitted may 26th and…

I had my balloon fitted may 26th and after 4 weeks of constant vomiting I was advised to go to A&E and get some fluids into me . They wouldn’t give me fluids without a barium xray which I had done and then was hospitalised for 7 days nil by mouth just on fluids via a drip . On the 26th of June the balloon was removed via gastroscopy. My Trachea and asophagus where raw through been sick . I was then given extra reflux meds to deal with the after effects . 8 weeks after that I was given another gastroscopy to check how things were going and they took 2 biopsy’s and I am now waiting to have another to check again . I was told to get the balloon back and go to Allurion send them X-rays and medical notes and that I had the retrieved balloon in my possession and I might get some refund . That didn’t happen either they don’t want to know they just take your money and to hell with the consequences. Please please don’t do it , don’t was your money it’s awful . I was vomiting food up that had gotten stuck and couldn’t get passed the balloon absolutely gross .

GREAT TOOL IF USED RIGHT

The experiance was spot on. The team in the build up then on thr day and afterwards were great. It gave me the kick start I needed and allowed me to continue to lose the weight.

The allurion balloon process works

Whilst the insertion is uncomfortable it is 20mins of discomfort that is worth it. I have re evaluated my eating regime with the help of a passionate nutritionalist and have lost nearly 3 stone. I am determined to keep up the good work as I feel so much more healthy.

Not even a stone lost big waste of money

Only 13lbs lost , I couldn’t afford it and wish I had never wasted my money I thought did not decrease my appetite very much basically I could’ve done better being on a keto diet or at a slimming club. Please do not waste your money. It is not worth it.
