Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 171 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently state that customer service is terrible, mentioning that representatives are difficult to reach, unhelpful, language barriers are common, and staff provide incorrect information. Consumer grievances also show extreme frustration with sudden price increases, disputed billing charges, and heavily restricted medical claims or denied treatments. Though some reviewers were happy with their coverage, a small portion of people noted that the business handled claims smoothly and provided helpful support. These consumers found customer service remarkably easy to contact, appreciated the prompt assistance received, and praised the reliable network coverage.

Ambetter is a leach of an insurance…

Ambetter is a leach of an insurance company that the insurance commissioner of georgia allows to continue its prey on customers. They are allowed to take money from peoples account without enrollment under the guise of passive enrollment. This comany has taken over $8000 from my account in the last 7 months, have not provided service and has refused to refund me. When I call I'm told they don't have me in their system. When I call the agent she told me I was disenrolled. I then went to my bank to stop payments. Since my bank stopped them from $1-1000 Ambetter waited to withdraw $1700 EVERY 2 MONTHS. When I complained to the insurance department they basically acknowledged that they took my money out, refused to disenroll me and acknowledged that they will continue to bill me. This is not only dishonesty but it is also a scam and the banking division, the state insurance departments and the attorney general is allowing them to continue this tactic.

If there is a no star I will definitely…

If there is a no star I will definitely choose under one star. The worst instance health plan in the USA. I am very disappointed with Ambetter Health Insurance. The customer service has been frustrating, and getting help with claims, authorizations, and coverage issues has been extremely difficult. Many times, I have had to spend a lot of time trying to get answers, only to receive unclear information or delays.

A health insurance company should make it easier for members to access care, not create more stress. I expected better communication, faster responses, and more support when dealing with medical needs. I would not recommend Ambetter to anyone looking for reliable health coverage.

Ambetter is a Life Saver

I wanted to write about my gratitude to Ambetter and saw all of the negative reviews. That really surprised me.
I had no insurance, then I got Ambetter, then my appendix burst. Ambetter covered everything. Customer service is easy to contact and incredibly helpful. They give each incident a reference number for ease in communicating a follow up.
I am deeply grateful for Ambetter.

Absolutely horrific company

Absolutely horrific company. All they do is deny claims. They are the epitome of corruption, at the expense of people’s health.

I’d be afraid to work for them for all of the angry customers who believe that what goes around comes around.

I would not even give them one star…

I would not even give them one star honestly. This insurance is the worst i have ever had. They failed to cover a major medical emergency that almost killed me, leaving me with thousands of dollars in medical bills. They give you rewards, but you have to build the points up and after you cash it out you have to wait up to 2 weeks for them to be available for you to use. No dental. No vision. Customer service is terrible and impossible to deal with.

Where are negative stars

Where are negative stars? Ambetter has routinely denied
NEEDED DOCTOR ADVISED TREATMENT FOR 6 months! Causing me to suffer and spend all my time on useless appeals. Dont look at the premium or out of pocket look at feedback like this. Only sign up if you want unneeded appeals, customer service speaking in languages that you cant understand, being hung up on, long hold times, no resolution and huge medical bills. No insurance and private pay is better. Run, or your life will revolve around fighting your insurance company. This should be illegl. Who monitors these theifs?

I had insurance with them

I had insurance with them. They gave me a grace period to pay my premium well it was due on the first well they suspended my thing during the middle of the month so I couldn’t use it. What’s the reason for the grace period if they’re not gonna give it to you I couldn’t pick up my medicine that cost me way more and I paid up to $10,000 to do my max deductible so I didn’t have to pay for my medicine no more but yet they still suspended it and I wasn’t able to get my medicine. They are dirty and they just wanna do what’s best for them. They don’t care about their customers or their patients whatever you wanna call us I don’t think they’re good at all and I would not recommend them to anybody. My name is Nicholas Williams.

Ignoring a Serious Case of Address Fraud”

If I could give zero stars, I would. My address is being fraudulently or incorrectly used by someone else, and I continue to receive their mail and tax documents. Despite repeatedly trying to get this issue resolved, I have been unable to find anyone willing or able to help.

This is a serious matter involving the misuse of my address and the potential exposure of sensitive personal and tax information. The lack of assistance has been extremely frustrating and unacceptable.

One star is way too generous for this…

One star is way too generous for this company. I’ve been denied for a procedure on my back that my orthopedic surgeon requested. Of course we’re appealing. This denial causes issues with my cardiovascular health because my back hurts so bad I can’t hardly do normal activities much less exercise like I should. I did the PT they wanted. Didn’t help. Had the MRI they wanted and they still denied the lumbar nerve block. I’ve seen the images and my back is a mess. They don’t know my pain level and could care less. 2 physicians have said I need it and 1 person at the company seems to think I’m fine. Live a day in my shoes then deny it. They’re useless and don’t get me started on the language barrier.

Great, unless you actually need to use it

Great, unless you actually need to use it. Ambetter's favorite word is, "denied." Whether your talking about a claim for a routine office visit, a necessary medical test, or any of the other supposedly-covered services, you can be sure that their default response will be DENIED. For instance, when your doctor sends you for an x-ray, his decision is only backed by years of medical school, residency, years more of medical practice, and a thorough examination of you the patient.

But that's no match for the breadth of knowledge at Ambetter. They clearly know better than your doctor even without ever having examined you (or even going to medical school). That's how good they are. But don't worry, if they can't find a reasonable explanation for denial, they will just make something up, as a service to you, the valued customer (e.g. "no supporting documents", even when your physician has submitted a full page of notes on your condition).

So you can be confident that when you pay your expensive premium each month that you're not just paying for lack of service. Your also investing in the future of something much more important: Ambetter c-level bonuses and stock buybacks. As a bonus you get to spend hours having fruitless conversations with non-American phone agents who couldn't care less about your issue. Thanks Ambetter!

Terrible

Terrible. Site doesn’t work. The “24/7 nurse line” number on my insurance card is a lie because I can’t get help according to their recording except during “regular business hours”. That is not 24/7. Good luck finding quality providers who accept this garbage. You might very likely get much sicker waiting to navigate through their labryth of incompetence and customer friction. You will probably give up and hope you get well on your own. That is what I am doing right now after wasting hours to get NOTHING accomplished with them. Terrible .

If I could put a zero

If I could put a zero, I would. This is the worst insurance ever. My wife was told in Sept of 2025 she needed back surgery. We jumped through all the hoops for months and it was initially scheduled for April 29. That was canceled last minute because we were told less than a month out that they wanted her to be nicotine-free for 6 weeks. It was rescheduled for June 2. She quit nicotine use and provided proof of that through the doctors test. Then jumping through more hoops they kept coming up with more excuses not to approve the surgery. We found out around 6pm the day before surgery that it was canceled again and that their 3rd party provider did not think that the surgery was medically necessary.

Ambetter is Interfering with My Husband's Treatments

My husband has alzheimer's disease. He has had three infusions and was doing much better. However when he went for his fourth infusion we were told that Ambetter voided the approval and he needed to have some of the same tests redone. We had them redone. The neurologist and infusion center staff are saying this is ridiculous because they never do these tests this close together. The person from Ambetter, who determined this is a clincal pharmacist, NOT a neurologist. My husband has now missed his scheduled infusion for two weeks and I can see a decline. Ambetter has interupted his treatment. They are causing him to get worse. They do not care about the patients.
