I seriously do not recommend this place…

I seriously do not recommend this place ! So we sent in our kit in December. We received a email in January stating that it didn’t work. That’s its ,no other email ,no call,no offering to send a new kit ,no offering to send her money back, nothing. So apparently and I’ve heard this from others This is what they do and they keep your money. They’re thieves, absolute thieves. This company needs to be shut down. So I call them the girl says she will resend another kit. It should take up to two weeks, so that’s January when I called. It’s now pretty much the beginning of April, I still haven’t received anything . I called and I spoke to a representative and I asked for my money back and she said that the name doesn’t match to the account. I said OK so the other name on there would be my son, and he is a minor .She said I need to speak to him. I said no he’s under age and my name was supposed to be on there as a secondary. I asked for a supervisor and she wouldn’t give me a supervisor. She said ma’am no you’re not allowed to cause you’re not on the account . When that girl was supposed to add me back in December and January.I said so you’re telling me nobody is allowed to speak to a supervisor and unless they’ve been on your account or purchase something for you, she said Yep and I hung up

Unless you want to give away your money…

Unless you want to give away your money do not use this company. I wish this was a one complaint situation but how we were treated and the amount of money we lost is stunning. From the day we started our monthly subscription to paying $200 for their worthless DNA tests (after one year they still haven't sent my wife her test kit) My first DNA test was bungled and after a year of complaining the second test came back saying I was Polish. I am most provably NOT Polish to any degree. Their so-called traits were nonsense. After a lifetime of competitive sports I was listed as non-athletic and not competitive in nature. Not one of their traits was even close. Their Customer Service is an utter joke. That they treat something that is very important to people and treat it like it's just another revenue stream is unacceptable. They do not deserve one star. Again...if you are thinking about using these guys go right ahead. I'll just throw my money out the window on our next road trip...Id rather do that. Shame on every single aspect of this ridiculous joke of a company. Do not use. Do not use Do not use. You've been warned.

Stay away

Stay away, never buy anything from Ancestry.ca
I purchased a DNA kit as a gift, had it gift wrapped (paid extra) and shipped to a different city for my mother. Ancestry registered the account under myself even though it was a gift. I canceled the over priced service within 26 days and they refuse to issue a refund stating that I took too long to cancel. It took that long to receive the DNA kit and discover their mistake. I have spoken to them on the phone 3 times and they have lied to me on every phone call. I will lodge a complaint with the BBB and there will be a lawsuit incoming.

Unimpressive result unless you want to pay more!

The results I've received tell me less than what I already knew. Unless I want to spend more money, this was a waste of my time and money! They constantly tease you with a new hint, which they will not reveal unless you take a 14-day free trial, then pay forever for a subscription. Nothing but a money grab! Don't waste your time!

Data Thieves

After contributing countless amounts of data, original research, and MY DNA, I am now locked out of any features that are of use to me, including information I uploaded, because I can no longer afford the monthly subscription. Just a bunch data thieves with no respect for the people who helped build everything they have.

It’s fake.

It’s fake.

I happen to know my origins, but I just did this for fun because it was cheap. May brother did another DNA test, and he got more accurate results. I have origins that I already know of. I know the traits in my family. I know my ancestors, since my family keeps record of all of my grandparents. We have blonds in my family, we don’t have curly hair at all, we have blue eyes and green eyes, all this wasn’t mentioned.

None of the results was accurate. 100% fake.

Save your money. Not worth it. I’m cancelling my subscription.

No customer services

There is no customer services. They act like they care by asking you if you would like to talk to a customer representative but NO ONE WILL EVER CONTACT YOU. They just don't care.

As for the results, they got too many things wrong about myself. But like they say, it is just an estimation ... "How do we come up with your estimate"

I would rate 0 stars if I could

I would rate 0 stars if I could. They charge $20 for delivery but just paused all shipments due to the Canada post strike. Order page doesn't mention the delay - I had assumed that my $20 would allow them to find an alternate courier. Won't arrive in time for Christmas - ordered Dec 3.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. First, no address sticker. A phone call produced that but 6 months later no test result. Tried phoning but I have a speech impediment and the customer service agent hung up on me. Tried e-mailing. Sent a simple, clear message with order and tracking nos. First an e-mail reply in French. why?? Referred to a "chat with" guy who referred me to a site that came up on the screen "page unavailable." These people are impossible!

Go with a competitor - deceiving practices here

Can't even get past receiving the kit properly. False advertising for expedited shipping and what is included with the kit. Supposed to be here in 2 days, day 3 and no tracking number. When you call (after you find the number - they prefer you chat with a robot for a while first), you then speak to a human robot with canned responses. The option for paid expedited shipping not being adhered to? Wait or get another kit sent and wait. Refund the expedited fee? Nope. No membership with the kit that clearly advertised coming with a membership... too bad. At this point I decide to just cancel the kit not being able to trust this company at this point. "Are you sure you don't want to just give it as a gift to a family member?" Wow. P.S. There's a $15 processing fee to cancel. It was waived after the agent agreed that 'wouldn't be fair'. Survey after the call never activated, go figure. My concerns will be noted, lol. Any mention of a supervisor was spoken over. A waste of time and energy. Go with a competitor, save yourself the headache.

Update: they didn't refund the whole amount and it took another hour to deal with that (if it's even being done right this time - the supervisor kept saying a lower amount than what was owed). Also, the day AFTER cancelling, the kit was shipped and is coming from Ireland! No way they can provide the 2 day delivery they are happy to charge people for but not refund when they don't provide the service. Fraudulent.

Subscription bs

I think I signed up for the cheapest subscription or something. Somehow it automatically signed me up for the 6 month subscription 70 bucks. I complained that I did not agree to this and they wouldn't refund me. Such a money grab.

Be careful

Be careful. When it works it's good, however, over the years Ancestry has regularly changed how it charges for services. More and more features are behind a paywall. Features that were included when I bought my kit and was part of the offer, now require a subscription. The way they currently advertize the product is " here is all you get with this test... bla bla bla..." Small print: "some of these features may require a subscription." But they don't say what, therefore, my assumption is that, as has happened to me, you'll get started, put in a load of work, and then suddenly., you find you have to pay for one or more of the tools you are using. They change what is and is not included in various subscriptions.

Now at my eighth email with them

Now at my eighth email with them. Shipping address sticker was not sent. Contacted them by phone twice, plus emails. They answered saying to check my spam, email and trash. Nothing. Just received an email from Shannon stating that the shipping label was sent by email on the 16th of July. This was the second one to replace the other two, one of which was the original that was not included?!? Mastercard has a notice not to accept charges from this company. Once burnt twice shy. Beware, please. See other negative reviews, there are plenty.

Charged us recurring fees yet never processed our sample

Would give negative stars if possible: 1) Months after mailing the kit to Ancestry and not receiving results, we reached out to the company to find that it was never processed. They only provided a refund because we initiated contact, but EVEN WORSE 2) They continued to charge a referring fee of $78 every 2 months! Apparently we defaulted into this service fee: bad enough that this was hidden in the fine print but to charge the fee and refuse a refund even though the original kit was never even processed is nothing short of criminal. For a company as unscrupulous as Ancestry, its ironic how we even trusted them with our DNA.

I am very disappointed in the information I received.

I am very disappointed in the information that I received. I thought it would show much more than the countries I was from. Others have told me that they received names of relatives, family trees, medical information. All that I received was a breakdown of countries I was from. Is this all there is? That seems like a huge price of $150 for 1 page of information.
