True Scottish Connection

My first tour was in 2018. I had hoped for a tour of a place I have felt connected to. I received a full remembrance and welcome to so much more - Scot is a story teller in the true meaning of the role. He connects people to people and people to place through his deep knowledge, care and just the right amount of highland mischief. Highly, highly recommended.

Scot is a true historian

Scot is a prodigious reservoir of historical lore and makes the tour a learning experience. He engages with all participants and gives the tour a personal touch. The folklore and music provide depth to the tour. The locations are always spectacular. The Borders Tour of May - June 2023 was superb.

Scot's Tours: Journeys of Story, Spirit, and Wonder

Traveling with Scot is an adventure in the best sense of the word. I first discovered his tours while planning my first trip to Scotland. I wanted more than an Outlander-themed experience. I was looking for culture, history, and a genuine connection to the land, and Scot’s tours stood out immediately. Choosing one for my first visit was one of the best travel decisions I’ve made.

Scot’s knowledge of Scotland's history, culture, and landscapes is unmatched, and he shares it with warmth, humor, storytelling, and music. His tours also get you beyond the usual tourist stops, with hikes and walks that reveal hidden gems along the way.

Traveling with Scot gives you a true sense of Scotland, and his love for the country is contagious. A decade after my first tour, I joined him again for a Sacred Scotland pilgrimage Exploring stone circles, holy wells, and other sacred sites with him felt like traveling with an old friend. The small group, great conversations, excellent food, and shared laughter made the experience even more special.

I recommend Scot’s tours without hesitation. They offer far more than sightseeing, providing a genuine connection to Scotland, its people, and its spirit. Anyone fortunate enough to travel with Scot will leave with unforgettable memories, a deeper love of Scotland, and the certainty that one visit is never enough. Don't be surprised to start looking forward to your next adventure with him before the first one has even ended.

A Very Special Tour of Scotland!

Scot is an amazing and considerate tour guide, and his Spirit of Scotland tour was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I had traveled to Scotland twice before, but this tour took us off the beaten path to visit sacred sites, both Christian and ancient Pagan, and to visit places and people that we wouldn't have encountered otherwise.

We visited Duart Castle where Scot performed for us in his capacity as Bard of Clan MacLean, visited a crofting family in the Highlands, hiked to a ruined village abandoned in the Clearances, walked among the remaining trees of Birnam Wood, visited The Scottish Crannog Centre to see how people lived 2500 years ago...and much, much more.

At every spot, Scot was able to tell us the history of the people who had lived there, and to share their myths and stories. This was truly an enjoyable and unforgettable experience! And, since the tour ended, Scot regularly sends his wonderful 60-Second Scotland emails featuring photos and history / lore. I highly recommend his tours (and his books)!

Wholeheartedly recommend Scot as a guide

I wholeheartedly recommend Scot as a guide to the wild places and cultural heart of the Highlands. We went on the Spirit of Scotland pilgrimage. It was an unforgettable journey into my ancestors’ land with a local guide who is deeply knowledgeable about, the landscape, the history, traditional arts and folklore. Everything was so meticulously planned for the travelers’ benefit. The places we stayed— particularly on Iona — were marvelous. Scot’s tours are well organized and good information is provided upfront. You will not regret booking a tour with him!

Scot is a wonder

Scot is a wonder: he is equal parts historian, poet, musician, host and teacher. In a world ever more flattened into a digital simulacrum of itself, Scot offers a richness of experience we've almost forgotten we need. Though skilled with engaging tech outreach, he's an in-the-flesh story-teller in the most grounded, spontaneous, unscripted, human, life-affirming way. With words and music he conjures people and places of history; with quiet walks in timeless landscapes he guides visitors back to their own imaginations. And the business side is so organized and disciplined in the administrative details that he makes it look easy. I can't recommend him enough.

One of a kind unique tour

This was our second private tour with Scot. He goes above and beyond to make it special for each person in your tour. He is highly knowledgeable about the history, the culture, the local special spots, and never fails to find a gem that’s off the beaten path. Our family considers him a dear and special person and a friend we will always cherish.

Solas - Songs from Within the Hill (Scot AnSgeulaiche)

Each time I listen to this album I find something new to enjoy.
On Disc One Scot presents the Irish Tale of Diarmuid, weaving together elements from live performances, traditional poetry and original music to create a listening experience which I find both magical and haunting.
The accompanying notes explain that the musical elements of Disc One have their origin in the music of Disc Two, creating a satisfying cohesion between the two discs and, for me, enhancing the listening experience.
Each of the ten tracks of Disc Two has its own distinctive character, which the informative booklet helps the listener to understand and appreciate. I like the way that so many different instrumental and digital resources are combined with ambient sounds and engaging melodies to create an evocative and memorable soundscape.
This is a spellbinding double album, which shows Scot’s skill as both an engaging storyteller and a consummate musician, and which I can highly recommend.
