I never received the Book subscription…

I never received the Book subscription that I ordered at Booksthatmatter and never heard anything back. Now the „rebrand“ to scam people under a new name but haven‘t answered my emails in over two years - even though i‘ve forwarded them to the new Emailaddress. Oh and they delete my comments repeatedly under their instagram post. Still waiting for my refund of over 60£.

False eventbrite listings

Event listed on Eventbrite didn’t go ahead due to strikes. No refund or postponed date. No reply from Aphra book club despite multiple attempts to contact them. Have lost about £40!

Very cosy and well stocked book store!

Very cosy and well stocked book store. Attended for a book signing. Molly was very welcoming and attentive. They have books on lots of different societal themes and discourse, there's definitely something for everyone!

Took the money but books never sent

This company used to be called Books that Matter. I suspect they've rebranded due to bad press. Similarly to many of the people here I have bought a subscription as a gift for my sister's 30th. She has chased them several times and they have charged me the money but never sent any reply to her emails or sent any books.

Attended a thoroughly wonderful evening…

Attended a thoroughly wonderful evening hosted by Aphra books a few weeks back on female health tech research. The book store was packed with avid readers and tech enthusiasts alike and we got to hear first hand from the author about her work, research process and have Q&A whilst having our books signed. All in all a fabulous evening and I can’t wait for the next one!

I've been to recent book events hosted by Aphra Books Club. The experiences have been very good. The vents were female-friendly and inspiring. It's as fun as a group of bookworms discussing books cozily together on a weekday night!

Well curated event

I went to an extremely well curated and all around great Book discussion and signing of the title New Methods for Women" in East London. Great event, gave me a lot to think about.

DO NOT USE. THEY OWE HUNDREDS OF WOMEN MONEY

Aphra Books AKA Books That Matter are a disgusting company that have stolen hundreds of pounds from young women, all whilst calling themselves a feminist company.

I wrote a review back in October about waiting months for my money back. They responded to my complaint saying they will honour what BooksThatMatter owe even though they are Aphra Books now. But after waiting months more they are now saying the debt is written off as BooksThatMatter doesn’t exist anymore. Yet Aphra books is still running basically the same just no subscription. What’s even more disgusting is that the owner Molly is now just bragging about her book she has published when she owes so many women money. Just read other reviews here and on Facebook too.

Playing the system for cash

A good example of how scammers can get away with running a company into liquidation to avoid paying invoices and refunds, only to reopen another company and do the same again. There are meant to be laws in place to stop people doing this but somehow these awful companies keep popping up.

Unfulfilled order back in August 2023, emailed multiple times to ask for order or refund, was eventually offered credit then finally a refund, but this was never processed. By the time I got in touch with my bank to get refund through them, the company was in liquidation and I was told I can't claim a refund through the bank as purchase was too long ago now. Lesson learned to go to my bank earlier. From reading other reviews, my experience was just the tip of the iceberg and small suppliers have paid a much higher price.

SCAM ARTISTS!!!!

This company and their predecessor (Books That Matter) are corrupt scammers. I ordered off their website in AUGUST 2023, never received my purchase nor did I receive the refund that they told me was processed in December. All of their emails (when you’re lucky enough to be responded to) are as false as if they were from a Tory politician - bunch of rubbish with some niceties sprinkled in. Queried my refund AGAIN today and was told the company was going through liquidation so couldn’t provide my refund. Absolute THIEVES. Never ever engage with this awful company.

Appalling company

Appalling company, asked for stock to sell in their shop at Christmas on a sale or return basis. Failed to return any of the stock and said they didn't sell any either. We have been waiting on the stock they promised to return for months, and now our messages are being ignored. I am infurated that a company like this should be able to continue trading with how badly they treat customers and suppliers. Would not recommend them to anyone.

Missing book no refund

Ordered a three month subscription and the third book never came, followed up several times and was told it was due to the company closing down due to insolvency and I wouldnt therefore be able to get a refund. Lo and behold they are still in business months later!

Scammers

Would give no stars if that was an option. They had my first review removed, which was ironic given that they were monitoring trust pilot and quick to remove negative reviews, yet I didn't receive any email responses for months at a time!
Leaving this review now as I have started to get emails promoting Aphra events in the last few weeks and I am sickened that they did not fulfill orders when they were 'books that matter' but just set up under a new name and neglected to honor orders from paying customers.
I find this behaviour to be entirely unethical and I know I am not the only person this happened to. Avoid ordering from this company as they will likely accept your payment and then not fulfill your order, leave months between email communications and have negative comments/reviews removed to hide their shady business ethics.
