Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 134 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many people appreciate the variety of software available, finding it a great way to access tools that might otherwise be unaffordable for small businesses. Customers often highlight the excellent customer service, describing it as responsive, polite, and genuinely helpful in resolving issues and ensuring a smooth experience. The ability to test products with lifetime licenses and the benefits of the Plus membership, including extended refund protection, are also frequently praised. However, some customers express significant dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the longevity of products purchased through the platform. A number of people report that many products they bought eventually shut down, and they feel AppSumo does not take responsibility for these occurrences, sometimes even siding with the merchant. There are also concerns about products overselling their capabilities, changing terms or features after launch, and issues with refund requests being consistently denied.

Great deals, great people

Bought several web apps and softwares deals on AppSumo since 2021, and even if 2 of the services shut down, it had nothing to do with AppSumo.
Always been satisfied by the service, and the team always tries to help when asked.

Don't use AppSumo, or at least be careful.

Be cautious when using AppSumo. They do not adhere to Australian consumer law. While some offers can be worthwhile, many so‑called lifetime subscriptions stop working after just a few months, leaving customers without protection or refunds.

After using AppSumo for several years, I’ve found that most of the products I purchased eventually shut down. There’s little to no recourse when that happens, AppSumo’s response is typically that it’s not their responsibility.

Whenever possible, pay through PayPal or consider a chargeback if the company behind a deal fails within 3-12 months.

Baware Buying from AppSumo

Baware buying from AppSumo, because AppSumo works with many fake companies, both making money and after a settled time the software company disappears, and AppSumo refuses to pay back or take responsibility. Moreover, if you post about it on their website, they will just "decline" the post (ibb. co/0yz8VMYP), so it's actually not a worthwhile company.

Proceed with Extreme Caution

When using AppSumo you need to proceed with extreme caution. AppSumo act as a marketplace for software providers to offer their products at discounted prices, usually for new products trying to establish themselves. The issue is that it is becoming the norm for these companies to fail to honour the terms deciding to remove features you are entitled to to reduce costs and make them paid for extras or simply shut entirely.

NEVER AGAIN - LOST ALMOST 1000 USD

LOST ALMOST 1000 USD - It has been my 5th lifetime deal that's goes into the WC. In less, than 18 months top. Also, when the product will be dead or soon, no support from Appsumo. After, you see that they will give you an Appsumo Credit..

I purchased Tier 5 of the Sessions app…

I purchased Tier 5 of the Sessions app for $849, which included the white-label version. I even onboarded clients onto the platform. Unfortunately, the app stopped working at the end of December 2024.

I never received any notification from AppSumo about the shutdown or the refund deadline. When I finally reached out to support, I was told that the refund window had expired on January 30th, 2025, and that there was nothing they could do.

So now I’m out $849, and my trust in AppSumo is seriously damaged.

I understand that third-party tools can fail, but the bare minimum would have been for AppSumo to actively notify affected customers, especially for such a high-tier purchase. They promote a "We Got Your Back" guarantee, but it's useless if customers aren’t properly informed.

Extremely poor experience. I’ll definitely think twice before buying anything from AppSumo again.

AppSumo - Do NOT Trust. They deserve a Class Action Suit

Appsumo creates deals between budding software companies and consumers who want to get a Life Time Deal, invest in a budding software company for a fixed price.

All of their deals say something like:

All future Pro (Tier 1) or Business (Tier 2) Plan updates.

But companies like SendSpark, Ranktracker and a half dozen more that I'm aware off have not upheld their side of the Deal Terms.

Getting AppSumo to do anything is a joke. Getting the Software company to do something is also a joke.

I've even been told by the founder of SendSpark that they don't uphold their Deal Terms because they don't want to because "features that cost us money to deliver that were not originally budgeted in the lifetime deal (like AI credits)."

And AppSumo writes, we don't uphold our Deal Terms because you need to understand "that you should have full access to all of the features included with your Tier 2 license. While this includes many updates, this doesn't necessarily mean that you will receive each and every update the Sendspark team releases for their platform. That said, you still have full lifetime access to this Tier 2 plan with all of the features included and many amazing updates along the way."

Appsumo, Yes, it does "necessarily" mean I get all updates. That is what "All future Pro (Tier 1) or Business (Tier 2) Plan updates" means and I have the screenshots and email text that confirm this.

Another shady thing: AppSumo took the product of SendSpark and others. So transparency is really an issue here.

So, to reiterate and help Appsumo with the English language:

All means ALL. All doesn't mean SOME. Or, ONLY WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT. Or, NOT WHEN I AM A BAD PLANNER.

It is really sad that company and people like Noah Kagan promise terms to lure customers into a sense of trust and then just plainly say, "not necessarily" or "no" or "INSERT EXCUSE HERE".

All future Pro (Tier 1) or Business (Tier 2) Plan updates pretty much means what it says on the face of it. Prima Facie.

Is a class action suit in the making? I'd say so. Or, maybe Noah Kagan and company can gain their integrity back and do a better job. Meantime, if anyone wants proof and screenshots and emails. Let's me know.

Great LTDs and support from the team!

I can't say enough good things about my experience with AppSumo! It's my go-to platform for discovering incredible deals on software and tools that have truly elevated my business. The discounts are jaw-dropping—I've saved so much money while gaining access to premium products that I never would have thought were within my reach.

What sets AppSumo apart even more is their amazing support team. Whenever I've had questions or needed help, they've been responsive, polite, and genuinely eager to solve any issues. It’s clear that they really care about their customers and want to ensure a great experience.

Thanks to AppSumo, I've been able to experiment with powerful tools without breaking the bank, and the customer service has made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend AppSumo to anyone looking for great deals and a team that truly has your back. Definitely worth checking out!

Scam company-please avoid

Scam company-please avoid.

From a Customer Perspective

Misleading “Lifetime” Deals — Access Revoked Months Later

I bought multiple “lifetime” software deals through AppSumo, only to have access revoked months later. When I reached out, they claimed it’s not their responsibility because the vendor removed it. But AppSumo collected the payment and promoted the deal as lifetime.

They make a profit, vendors get squeezed, and customers are left with nothing. This is not just a bad experience — it’s a broken business model based on short-term cash grabs and zero accountability.

Avoid unless you’re okay with losing access to your purchases.

Review – From a Vendor Perspective

Warning to Founders — AppSumo Withholds Payouts & Abuses Terms to your detriment

As a vendor, AppSumo promised exposure and support — what I got instead was a delayed payout process, poor communication, and 70% of revenue taken with little transparency. They hold funds for over 2 months, then denied a portion based on vague “refund reserve” policies.

Their business model is extractive. You’re expected to slash your prices, handle a wave of unsustainable support, and watch them profit more than you. Founders beware: you’re not in control on this platform.

AppSumo is not worth it

Don't be tempted with their marketing tactics that make you think you will be a better entrepeneur and richer by buying their products. 90% of the products are either beta and in early stage development. I have seen some terrible UX designs for products with so many bugs.

The platforms are sold as lifetime deals but terms have changed for buyers such as not providing future updates or simply going offline. The only people that benefit is AppSumo themselves and the guy that owns it.

Try to go direct with well established brands and developers or just pay monthly for a full working product.

Please do consider if you really need to purchase their products. Watch out for dodgy developers as well.

Colludes with their partners to allow them to mislead you

A company out for your money who doesn't want to hear about negative reviews and which colludes and enables their seller partners to lie to customers about deal inclusions.

They don't live up to their customer service promises - as a Plus member I received terrible support from all levels of the company from first level customer service (robotic and can't be bothered) to Head of Customer service (can't be bothered to respond to you and investigate properly) and right up to the CEO (who did reply to me, forwarded my emails to Head of Customer Service and then stopped responding when I told him Customer Service did nothing).

I pointed out VERY CLEARLY and with EVIDENCE that their partner's deal page was misleading and mentioned lifetime updates to a plan that was not actually being sold. Despite that, they have done NOTHING.

So many deals end up like this because they can't be bothered to properly vet partners and now I have had this experience and brought it right in front of their eyes, the fact they take NO ACTION shows exactly what they stand for - PROFITS FIRST.

I shall be avoiding them in the future.

BTW, for anyone here who is saying Appsumo refused to refund them within the 60 day return window - THEY MUST. Just go to your card company with a screenshot of the 60-day return policy and show them the refusal email from Appsumo - your card company will reverse the purchase.

AVOID HERE IS WHY.

AVOID HERE IS WHY.
The apps are all server, short lived and then removed.
Why some app do stay there awhile I signed up for a lifetime and all I got was apps that were removed a few months after I signed up. None of my apps work today all are dead.
If you use this service count on losing access.
App Sumo, could care less about this as well they tell you to take it up with the developer.
Truth is I think APPSUMO owns the server and then limits the access as it makes no sense all these app fail and die off.

I am a plus member but sadly i am only from the UK. AppSumo and alot of the software I FIND is mainly for US. I feel AppSumo should be HONEST and make the companies prove the software is also for UK or another counties of the world. America is not the world it is a country of the world. I have spent thousands of pounds on AppSumo and only finding out now that alot of the software was not fit for a UK buisness. Till AppSumo make some kind of system warning us I shall not be purchasing any more software. As for US clients go ahead this is made of you.

I was a PLUS user for several years and they were good BUT NOT ANYMORE! They offer deals for purchase, but consistently deny refund requests, requiring you to reach out to support each time. I lost approximately $2,000 due to blocked refunds and received no response from support despite reaching out for assistance. As a result, I'm stuck with tools valued at $2,000 that I can’t use. I strongly advise you to AVOID this company!

Complete scam

They take your money but refuse to honour your purchase. They freeze your account claiming it raised some "red flags" without elaborating and then don't even issue the refund for the purchases you made.
