Shocking behaviour, poor food, and no care for loyal customers.

We’ve been regular customers at Asaga in Newport for years. My children enjoy the food, but my wife and I have always found it overpriced for the poor quality. We usually don’t order anything ourselves.

On this visit, my wife went in alone and spent £25.50—all the cash she had. They don’t accept card payments, which is inconvenient and questionable in 2025. She didn’t have 10p for a carrier bag and politely asked the staff if she could take one, promising to pay next time.

Rather than showing basic understanding, the staff refused—and worse, a white woman nearby began making racist and abusive remarks, saying:
“If you can’t afford it, why do you expect others to pay for it?”
“It’s 10p!”
And then she aggressively told my wife to “F* off.”**

This was my son’s first time witnessing racism, and it happened in a takeaway we’ve supported for years.

Only after the situation escalated and my wife was humiliated did the staff finally hand her a bag—without a single apology.

We’ve likely spent over £600–£700 a year here, but we’re done.
It’s not just the service—the food has declined too. No tissues or forks, and this time the rice was hard, the chicken black bean curry was dry, and even the children said they don’t want to return—not just because of the experience, but the quality.

Shocking behaviour, poor food, and no care for loyal customers.
We will never return.
