Too pricey; Support is bad; EIG owned
This is an EIG owned company now. Before that, they were good and had decently priced plans. Their rates doubled a few years ago and went up another 10% recently. Their support, however, is lacking or non-existent. The only real way you can reach them is by chat and it isn't very helpful. Avoid EIG companies. They are all like this.

Helped me resolve some deep issues with regards a problem I had with a client. Thank you for the support.
Slow customer support
Front-line support during a live chat cannot help you with typical issues other than rebooting your server. Takes hours and sometimes days before someone solves a ticket for you. Plus, they do minimal follow ups causing you to wait even more to fix it.
Lousy Support
They have the cheapest prices, but about the worst support in the industry!
Nightmare. Site suspended for questionable reasons.
I had a terrible experience today. My site was suddenly suspended during the highest traffic day (Monther's day in Mexico). They claim that my hosting service was not paid but all invoices were marked as paid in my dashboard. They said that Paypal made a chargeback but they never sent an email letting me know and there's no filter for collections or chargeback issues and the invoice is marked as paid, I even received a paid receipt. My complete operation for mother's day was sabotaged during the first hours, which are crucial. I'm moving to another hosting company ASAP.
I should have checked the reviews here
They suspended my account out of the blue. No notice, no email, no nothing. Wow! In my opinion this was the first sign of a very unprofessional hosting service.
I got on their online chat and I got the following reason - "Upon checking your account, I could see that our security team found malware in your account and hence they have temporarily suspended the account".
I started asking questions when, who, what etc but mainly was asking why no one told me anything about this problem.
Upon "checking with senior techs" I got the answer that actually there hasn't been any malware or there has been a bad file that their automated malware detection system had flagged and deleted there and then. I also got told that at the same time their system had suspended my account and no one from the hosting company knew it got suspended. Whether that's true or not I don't and cannot know but the whole thing was very annoying.
I kept asking when did that happen. Only after my continued repetition of the date request I was told it had happened at least a month ago. I asked for my money back for the period of time my account was suspended and they responded with "Even if account is suspended, your files, data, emails everything will be occupying space from our server. It was still on our server. Account was not terminated.
" Which is a ridiculous statement. I pay them for web hosting i.e. to display my websites I upload there, not just for mere file storage.
Anyway, they said they will escalate about the refund of the payment during my account suspension and will let me know. Upon receipt of their response I will update my review.
Nonetheless, my experience with A Small Orange's customer service and automated malware detection systems was not good. From what I heard from their customer support I think their system needs serious improving, in order to avoid disappointed customers in the future.
Update 20/02/2020
--------------------------
At first the senior management responded they would not be refunding me.
Only after I listed the legal grounds of their breach of contract they agreed to credit me with 1 month free service.
Although they provided a refund I had to waste time arguing I was due a refund. It was something they were forced to do rather than being their idea to compensate me. Quite the opposite. However, they promised to refund the wasted month hence my increase to 2 stars.
Avoid Like the Plague
They have been unable to fix their email problems with Yahoo and AOL for over two months now. No mail can be sent to anyone at either domain.
They close their support tickets without fixing problems or commenting.
They used to be good but were acquired by an aggregator. They used to have US based support and telephone support. Everything is now (poorly) handled in Asia. You never get the same person twice.
SOOOOOOO BAD IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL
SOOOOOOO BAD IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. I have had my site being paid for my PayPal auto credit which they took monthly, the only problem is their system seems to lose payments, so even though you paid my site was going down on a monthly occasion because the payment cleared for them but never applied to my account. I had to chase them monthly to locate the money and apply to my account.
They have corrected and messed up things consistently for about a year and do not have a phone line and do not reimburse you for services lost. This is a terrible service for anyone who actually manages their site at all.
don't trust them, they don't care and only want money
ASO - RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN
I hosted with A Small Orange (ASO) from Feb 2016 through Feb 2018. but starting in 2017 I got so many "your site is down" emails from my site monitor that I couldn't deal with it, even for the price. So I cancelled my account - not a big deal. A year later - I got CHARGED again, and realized I'd been charged for 2018 (a couple days after I cancelled). They now REFUSE to give me a refund of these unauthorized charges. DO NOT host with them, it's not a good product and they are not trustworthy.
It was good, but not now.
I am using A Small Orange host from last 3 years, it was good, but now, on this year it's services going bad, no customer support help, even on live support, no one connect with me on after holding 30 min. Plan to leave their service.
One of the worst!
One of the worst!
If you want to host a website then DO NOT USE a small orange as they are part of EIG and that means that you will get problems.
I had a VPS with them and had lots of downtime including one of 7 days and as thanks for that they offered me $30 compensation....
Then I paid for a plan and they forgot to give me the allotted disk space for it and then when I found out almost a year later they didn't want to give me money back for the service I never got but paid for.
I am now really happy with Nodehost and would advice you to give them a look instead.
Dire
Dire, awful. They got bought out by a huge company and the service is non-existent; they literally don't reply to anything unless they want money.
We set them up for a client and then…
We set them up for a client and then transferred the account to the client. A year later Small Orange billed us accidentally. We had to fight hard to get the money back and when we did there was a £12 exchange loss which they refused to make good. Here was their ridiculous last word:
We are limited to only being able to refund the charges that were actually received however in doing some research if the funds for the original charge are not showing as completely refunded the only avenue that we would have to suggest is to dispute this through your financial institution.
From the information that I was provided they would be able to recover the remaining funds through that process.
Again my apologies for any inconvenience that this has caused you.

Poor service
Poor service. Deducted amount without my consent and now not willing to refund
I left a small orange because the …
I left a small orange because the service was slow and very variable and unreliable. Then after cancelling, the money kept going out. They claimed that they can't do anything about it because it's in there terms and conditions.
I hate companies that hide behind terms and conditions. The maths has been done and it would take years to read them all properly and companies know this. I didn't realise I had to cancel Paypal myself.
In my cancelation email it said I wouldn't be charged anymore, so I took this as the matter closed.
But they wont refund it. A decent company with morals would. But they want to keep money for a service they didn't provide.
As fair as I am concerned, to keep money that doesn't belong to you, even if it was sent in error, is theft. Poor and simple.
If one of my clients or customers accidentally sent me money, I'd return it, no question. If I found a wallet on the street, would I keep it because they shouldn't of dropped it? Finders keepers? No, it would be immoral and it would be theft.
You can clearly see from the other reviews here that a small orange is a terrible company and I advise, along with most other reviewers to not go near them.
The prices were good when signing up
The prices were good when signing up, but the hike up whilst offering new customers very heavy discounts.
Support is friendly but rubbish, they take days to respond to simple queries sometimes. When you run an ecommerce firm and you depend on your site functioning, this is not acceptable.
They would often not respond to emails or give confusing answers that don't make sense. e.g. not giving you steps to solve a problem, just telling you the nature of it.
I would not recommend.
No support
No support, 10 websites down for 1 week, can't do anything, thanks !
THEY WILL RUIN YOUR WEBSITE/LIFE
If I could give this company a negative rating then I absolutely would. I work full time and in four and a half years I have built up a successful beauty blog website. Recently, A Small Orange somehow managed to delete every single one of my images, even images I had before I signed up with A Small Orange.
It took constant hounding and a week before they even responded to my email. There is no telephone number on the whole of the internet for them, you can only contact them via live chat, and even then, they then raise a support ticket.
Was told there was nothing that could be done to reinstate my pictures and that I would have to try and google my images, save them, and then re-upload. I had over 10,000 images, so this is obviously impossible.
Was told that their terms and conditions state that I cannot receive compensation for the total destruction of my website. They admitted it was their fault but there was nothing they could do.
NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY - I have actually felt ill over all of this, and they have ruined four and a half years of hard work and absolutely do not care a single bit.
Great for speed and uptime.
I have been using their shared (small) plan for the last 6 months. Never experienced any downtime. Their speed is above average compared to other hosting companies in this price range.
Support is average. Ticket response time is very frustrating but the live chat is fine. A good hosting provider if you need basic features and very minimal technical support.
Worst hosting experience ever
In 23 years' experience as a webmaster, the service that I received at A Small Orange was not only the worst I've seen for a web hosting company, but the worst I've seen at any company, ever. Urgent and pressing technical problems took 5 weeks for a written response, which was challenging, rude, and unhelpful -- without ever actually responding to *their* technical issue. Certain promises made during sign up, namely for moving a site from another host, were simply ignored and never completed. This compares with other hosting companies who, in my experience, offer a normal response time (and actually completing the needed task) ranges from immediate to no longer than 24 hours. We were able to cancel the service and get a refund, however, they have yet to respond to requests to release our domain name we'd switched over to their management. A complete nightmare, and truly insane levels of antagonism and disregard to their paying customers. Avoid at all costs! (Note: Older reviews offering positive reviews, which I'd followed, were all from prior to the company's purchase by a competitor.) The FTC and FCC need to investigate this company at their earliest opportunity. In my honest opinion, ASO is a criminal enterprise more than an actual hosting company.
