Autovia is by far the best car‑rental company I have experienced in Italy. It follows a very standard and efficient process and is extremely popular. The staff are incredibly friendly. There are no random charges or unfair practices. They carry out a thorough inspection upon vehicle return. Highly recommended.

Extremely negative experience
Autovia refused to give me my booked car because my full name was not completely printed on my Visa card.
The reason is simple: the card only has space for 19 characters, while my full name is longer. I have owned this Visa card for more than 20 years, it has a very high credit limit, and I have never had any problem with it before.
For the first time in more than 20 years, I was effectively told that my genuine credit card was not acceptable and its authenticity was questioned because of the way my name was printed.
The exact same card was accepted immediately afterwards by another car rental company at the neighbouring counter without any problem.
This created major stress at the start of our trip and negatively affected the mood of our holiday.
If Autovia applies such an unusual rule, it should be highlighted very clearly before booking. The whole situation also left me with the uncomfortable impression that such restrictions may put customers under pressure to accept more expensive alternatives or additional insurance. I cannot prove that this is intentional, but this was the impression the experience left.
I will never rent from Autovia again.

I booked a rental through Autovia/Ecovia, but when a serious problem occurred with their local supplier, they did not provide meaningful support.
After I returned the vehicle, the supplier charged my credit card again several days later without my approval. I also had problems with the deposit, which appeared as a normal charge instead of a temporary hold.
I contacted Autovia/Ecovia and explained everything in detail. Instead of investigating and helping resolve the issue, they simply told me to contact the local rental company directly, even though I rented the vehicle through their network.
I have already filed an official complaint in Turkey and disputed the credit card transactions with my bank.
My main complaint about Autovia/Ecovia is the lack of effective after-sales support. When there is a serious dispute involving unauthorized charges, customers should not simply be redirected back to the same supplier they are complaining about.
Very disappointing experience.

The counter agent was very helpful when it came to an issue surrounding my IDP. We had to bear a little more financial burden than originally quoted but we were happy to still rent the vehicle. That being said be sure to have the physical copy of the IDP as the digital ones are not an acceptable form. The car was adequate for the 4 days we spent in Tuscany. Pick up was easy but more signage to the -4 floor lot would be helpful since the elevator was out of commission. The returning of the car was simple in the fact you go back to the same parking garage. However there could be clearer instructions from the agents because Florence is a ZTL during the day time. Our drop off was at 12pm so we had to travel for about 5 minutes in the city to get to the ramp. If that is an automatic ticket then instructions on how to avoid those fines should be highlighted before taking the car. Otherwise we had an enjoyable experience.

I’ve had enough of you—if it helps your cash flow, then just take those 250 euros. It won’t make me any poorer, and it will likely help you out.
In return, I will describe your company as highly dishonest. I will post reviews about you everywhere I possibly can, and for a very long time to come:
AUTOVIA—THE MOST DISHONEST CAR RENTAL COMPANY.
I would warn against the company AUTOVIA. I returned the car over a month ago and still haven't received the refund of my €250 deposit. I returned the vehicle in impeccable condition, yet I still didn't get the deposit back. I also want to warn others that they pressure customers into buying additional, very expensive insurance. It is a bad company.

Tried to charge me for existing damage to car. Ignored all my communications - including when I sent them my rental receipt highlighting existing damage.
Charged me €50 for topping up petrol - even though I brought it back with more in the tank than when I rented it.
Nasty little fraudsters - AVOID

I rented a car with Autovia for a week, paying for additional FULL insurance. After checking out the car I received an email with fabricated damages (they were already on the car) and a request to pay 400 EUR. Even though the Autovia lady who checked out the car specifically mentioned that with full insurance you don’t pay any charges. Autovia never replied to any of my emails of phone calls. And after 2 months they tried to charge my card for those 400 euros.
I don’t recommend to anyone using this service, be very careful with them.

Awful. Rude, dismissive. They wanted a credit card with my full name on it, apparently for security reasons despite a driving licence and passport as accompanying proof, very few people in the UK have their full name on a credit card. It's written in their terms however a ridiculous rule . Avoid.

AVOID AUTOVIA – extremely poor experience and an unexplained €630 damage claim
I would strongly advise anyone considering renting a car from Autovia to not.
When I collected the vehicle in Venice, I specifically asked the member of staff about recording the condition of the car. I was told to take a video of the vehicle, which I did. When I later returned the car in Pisa, it was inspected and I was given documentation showing €0 in damages/charges.
Despite this, I was subsequently contacted claiming approximately €630 worth of damage to the vehicle.
I disputed this and provided the evidence I had from the rental, including the fact that the vehicle had been returned and checked with no charge recorded. Despite this, approximately £500 was then taken from my account without notice.
What made the situation even worse was the complete lack of effective customer service. I tried calling Autovia to resolve the matter, but when selecting the administration option the line repeatedly went dead. I eventually managed to speak to the reservations department, who simply told me they could not deal with the issue - and when directed to email, a reply never comes.
I have since looked into other customers’ experiences and found numerous reviews describing similar disputes over damage charges, which has made me extremely concerned about how these cases are being handled.
I am now disputing the payment with my bank and escalating the matter further.
My advice to anyone considering using Autovia: photograph and video absolutely everything, keep every document you are given, and check your bank account carefully after returning the vehicle.
Being told to record the vehicle, returning it with documentation showing €0, and then later having around £500 taken from my account has completely destroyed my trust in this company.
I would not use Autovia again and cannot recommend them.

Hiring car with Autovia (through Discover Cars) was a great experience. Samir, their representative at Perugia Airport, made whole process nice and easy for us. Car we received was brand new with 5k km on the clock. Spotless inside. Deposit I paid was back on my account within 24 hrs after we returned the car.
Thank you very much

Our experience with Avtovia was excellent. In fact, we had never even heard of the company until, after a disastrous experience with Europcar, we were left at Palermo Airport without the car we had reserved and already paid for.
We urgently needed to find another vehicle, and Avtovia was the first rental desk we approached. Unfortunately, they did not have exactly the type of car we had originally wanted, but they offered us a very similar vehicle at a much better price than Europcar, including full insurance coverage.
The car was almost brand new, very clean and well maintained. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, communication in English was easy and smooth, and the whole rental process was quick and straightforward.
Returning the car was just as easy and completely hassle-free.
Overall, our experience with Avtovia was extremely positive, and we would definitely recommend them.

I booked a car for a week, on arrival to collect the car - I was told my Nationwide credit car was not acceptable to use, as they are not a bank - Ive used this card for years in Spain & Italy for car hire with no issues before - i then tried my work credit card which had my name, but also my company - which is a lloyds credit card - where was told this was no good also - I tried another car hire company, but of course on the day, the price quoted was over 1000 Euros more - I had no choice but to plead with Autovia to help - Rudi the Manager there said he would call his head office. after 20 minutes waiting he said he can help, but the charge would increase by 128 Euros - I had no choice but to pay this - what then made the experience even more painful, was that now my Nationwide credit card was ok to use ?? I questioned this to the Manager asking why the card is ok now am paying more - where he was very rude back to me saying he does not need to hire the car to me. I had no choice but to apologise for my question, otherwise I would not have been hired the car. I would certainly think twice about using this company - I personally will never use them again after this experience. MR J Willis

We arrived at Pisa airport yesterday and despite the long queues to get through passport control, we still made it to the hire car desk in the correct time. I had a car booked with Autovia through Ryanair, but when I presented my documents, the lady said that she couldn't process the reservation because I had booked with the name Tim Wright, whereas the name on my driving licence is Timothy Wright. She was very offhand and after consulting with her male counterpart, I was given the phone number of the Ryanair agent who could amend the reservation, she was very helpful and asked to speak to the Autovia lady. I had the phone on speaker but when the Autovia lady took the phone she switched this off so that I couldn't hear the conversation. When handed back to the Ryanair agent, I was told that she couldn't persuade Autovia to change or open a new reservation because we were now considered late arrivals and therefore a no show. This instantly means that you cannot get a refund. What a joke, I have used hire car companies worldwide through my job and socially without ever encountering such ridiculous behaviour. I will advise Ryanair to remove this company from their listings as they are a disgrace.

Terrible experience. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! Yesterday we arrived at their desk in Pisa airport to collect the car we had booked and paid for, and were told we couldn't have it as my husband had booked it in his shortened name rather than the full name on his licence. Okay, we can see that. We were told we needed to have another contract issued so we rang the number provided, and were told that as we were NOW late to collect we were listed as a No Show so the contract was cancelled. Just a way to take people's money. Dreadful customer service; after hiring cars world wide for over forty years we have never experienced anything like it.
