Absolutely unacceptable experience with…
Absolutely unacceptable experience with Avis in Eindhoven.
I arrived to collect a car I had already booked and confirmed, only to be told there were no vehicles available. This left me stranded in a foreign country with no transport and no support whatsoever.
To make matters worse, the staff member I dealt with was extremely rude, dismissive, and completely uninterested in helping. There was no apology, no effort to find a solution, and no basic level of customer service.
I was also told that I had been contacted in advance, which is completely false — I received no calls, no emails, nothing. This feels like an excuse to cover poor management and overbooking.
This situation caused unnecessary stress and disruption to my trip. A confirmed booking should be honoured, and if not, proper communication and alternative arrangements should be the bare minimum.
Avoid this branch. Completely unreliable and very unprofessional.
Avis administration fee scam
Avis charged me €15 in administration fees related to a parking violation during my rental period. However, the original parking tax bill was never sent to me — not by the Municipality of The Hague and not by Avis.
The only notice I received was a reminder from the municipality that already included additional penalty costs for missing a deadline I was never informed of.
I seriously question the justification for the administration fee. Avis did not assist in resolving the issue, did not forward the original municipal bill, did not verify that I was properly notified, and did not offer to process payment. They simply transferred liability and charged a fee.
As a result, I am now paying additional reminder charges for something I was never given the chance to settle in time.
Charging customers a processing fee without ensuring clear communication or support shows a lack of transparency and customer care.
This experience was extremely disappointing.
Horrendous finance/customer service team with zero customer service
The people in the actual customer facing outlet were wonderful This was all negated by there finance or supposed 'customer service team' department. The car had a faulty system that showed incorrect speed limits. I ended up with 4 fines - all under the 50KM/hr on the car, but over the actual speed limit of 30. They took no responsibility and even still charged me a fee for handling a fine which is totally in their control. Total lack of any empathy, discussion or ownership of their contribution to the problem. Sad as I loved the people customer facing, very convenient for me and was hoping to make it a regular place. Never want to step foot in there again now. Would not recommend them as a organization to do business with
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Avis at Eindhoven Central Station on July 4th. Despite having a confirmed reservation, I was left waiting for almost 40 minutes while another customer who arrived after me was served first.
When I was finally assisted, I was told my Mexican driver’s license was not accepted, even though:
In 2022, I rented a car from Avis at Schiphol Airport with the exact same license without any issues.
The reservation system never warned me about any restrictions regarding Mexican licenses.
If the policy had changed, I should have been informed before completing the booking.
This lack of transparency caused me to waste time and left me without the car I urgently needed. The customer service was unclear and unhelpful throughout the process.
I strongly believe I deserve a full refund, since Avis allowed me to make a booking they had no intention of honoring. Overall, this experience has made me lose trust in Avis and I would not recommend their services to others.

Scam!
Unexpected experiences... You have to deposit 1000 euro, which I understand, but after you return the car and travel back to your own country, they can play their own money game. Filled up gas tank 20 kilometers before Amsterdam Airport, but days later, I was charged 50 euros for 5liters of gas. On a second day of our trip, after a cold front, the low tire pressure warning came on the dashboard (which is normal) I personally filled up the tires with required amount of air, but I didn't know how to "initiate" it to get rid of the low tire pressure warning. Didn't have no problem with a tire pressure for the rest of the trip. Told a guy what happened, and he said no problem. He can get rid of the message. Now I'm getting charged for damaging the tires.... Also they have no proof that I was speeding, but getting charged for it anyway... AVIS IS A BIGGEST SCAM IN A CAR RENTAL WORLD!
Service is very low
Service is very low - car had damages on my car when given, took 30 min for someone to look at it (few people available to help). Stressed people. Not possible to pay for full insurance - only to pay for less high security. Must bring a physical credit card when pickup up car - via phone is not possible - and extra long payback when using debit card. I recommend other service ex Enterprise who have non of these issues
We rented a car problem
We rented a car through the Booking website to pick up from Charleroi airport at 17:30 local time on May 31, 2025. When we went to the office at 17:50 due to the flight delay (can be checked on airline flights), the office was closed and we were not informed about the closing time of the office. When we called Booking customer service, they told us to cancel the reservation and make it online again. However, when we asked how to make a reservation again from an office that was closed, they did not give any information about this and kept telling us to cancel it and make a new reservation. We did not cancel the reservation on purpose so that it would appear in the records that the vehicle was not picked up. Since we were going to go to the Netherlands from the airport, we were even more victimized by the elapsed time and had to rent from another rental company, as it is generally known that flights at the airport are not always on time. Since the difference in the payment we made to the other company is due to Avis or Booking not informing us in advance about the closing time, I demand that the difference be paid to me in accordance with my legal consumer rights.
Disgraceful service
Do you want to make reservations for a car, to find out on the spot all you have is thin air? Go Avis Aruba! We made a reservation for a car here. When arriving at the airport, they calmly stated they don't have a car because they overbooked. No matter how much we talked, nothing helped. Especially the lady with the glasses, the so called supervisor, acted like a brick wall. No friendliness, not even an apology. We were dismissed out of the store. And the crazy thing was that when new customers came in, they were able to provide them with a car. Apparently they had overbooked the cheap cars and didn't want to offer an upgrade so we were given the f- you and good luck. Disgraceful service. Never rent a car here.
Avis Helmond bad experience very unfriendly
I rented a car at Avis Helmond. I called if I could pick up the car earlier and they said, the pickup time is quite flexible. I arrived 30 minutes later than the indicated time and Avis was closed at 11 am. and no one called me, informed me and no one wanted to help me. I didnt get my money back either and the manager who works there was super unfriendly and not willing to help.
The worst car service because they…
The worst car service because they deliberately withhold important information and scam you.
Especially the Avis centre in utrecht is full thieves and they give worst customer services. They are rude and extremely unprofessional.
Thieves.
Thieves.
We both have several nationalities and have lived in Australia, Canada, USA and New Zealand for over 30 years.
During all these years in these countries I have always used Avis International without too many problems. However, that “ without any problems “ stops when you start using Avis in the Netherlands. You think it's a good idea to use a large international company, but then you end up disappointed in the Netherlands. The Dutch Avis is completely destroying the good international name reputation.
We needed a car from May 26 to June 5.
Original pick-up date/time and location was :
Rotterdam Airport, 26 May from 11.00
When we arrived at an international airport just after 12.00 (due late arrival of flight and traffic for us) at Avis, we stood in front of a closed door with a piece of paper taped to the glass to call the next number. We tried that 3 times without being recorded.
We then tried to call the Dutch Avis number where we were told by a recording that the company is currently closed. At our wit's end, because we were standing outside in the rain and had nowhere to go, we called the emergency number of Avis.
This connected us with Avis Amsterdam Schiphol. The female employee we got on the phone couldn't have been more unfriendly than she was when we explained that we had reserved a lease car but that the Avis doors at Rotterdam Airport were closed. We asked if we could pick up a similar type of car in Amsterdam. The blunt answer was that we could always come to Schiphol, but that this lady did not want to indicate whether an equivalent car would be available. (ride Rotterdam-Amsterdam is easily 55 minutes). I means, for god’s sake, if a customer ends up in this situation, the least you can do is try to help.
Even after respectfully asking nicely several times, this women absolutely did not want to help us solving the situation that actually was a mistake made by Avis and the lady showed that in fairly rude and short answer barks. Absolutely shocking to be treated like that. Typical Dutch woman with no care in her body for visitors stranded in the rain in front of a closed Avis office with a valid and paid lease contract. Not many countries in the world where companies can get away with the rude behavior this Amsterdam Avis woman used.
But we decided to go to Schiphol. There we were treated friendly and well by the desk staff. A new contract was drawn up. Same dates but of course later release time.
The pickup of the car was also very unpleasant. An uninterested Avis employee who just gave us the keys from behind his desk and was absolutely not interested in showing / explaining to us the car. We had to check ourselves if there was any damage etc. No explanation of how the hybrid car worked etc.
It took us 3 hours and 200km of driving to get this Avis rental car.
The signed off details on the receipts are :
Pickup Sun 26 May 2024, 13:50
The details on the Intake voucher is:
Delivered Back Wednesday 05 June 2024, 10:22
So returned the car back well in time and with a full tank
After this, we contacted Avis to complain about this affair. We have been in contact 3 times with Avis who promised that the right person would call us back and speak to us. Avis never called back.
To our absolute horror another mystery 100 euros was debited from my credit card a day after returning the car.
Called right away whit the question why Avis was taking more money without even contacting and it turned out to be a mistake by the Amsterdam office who had made the mistake of returning time of the car an hour late, which was not the case because of the new contract times. It would be corrected immediately. To this day, it has not been corrected. I mean it is very very very close to theft like this. We fulfilled our obligations, rental period was within the correct time, tank was full, no damaged to the car. You, as a company, can not take more money from a customer credit card without calling, emailing or whatever. Yeah very close to Theft.
This Dutch Avis outfit brings the good Avis International name down. As a customer, be aware that Avis Netherlands does not come close to Avis International quality. They charge the full Avis prices but are nothing more than a cheap unreliable outfit abusing a good name.
In the Netherlands, we will never use this AVIS criminal outfit ever again.
Avis car broke down, horrible company
I rented a car with AVIS, it was for a weekend. The car broken down when I was about to come back, I was driving abroad. I called the help and it took at least 4 hours to receive the tow, when the mechanic was there, he just wanted to tow the car because it was not in good conditions to continue driving, after that I had to find a hotel to stay one more night and pay for the costs, hotel and transportation. In the second day I had a replacement car, I drove back to the Netherlands and delivered the car in the location of this third company. The process when a car break down is very stressful and not organized, the customer care is ridiculous and they don't care about the costumer, we need to solve everything by ourselves and after to receive the refund of the expenses is very unclear and it seems that the process can be very long and not sure if is possible to get the money back. Also, the deposit of 1.100 is still reserved in my credit card and the information from Avis is that the car is still in France, they can only release the deposit when the car gets back in the Netherlands, but it has not forecast for when the car will be back and it can takes weeks. Finally, I spent more money than I should, I have my credit card blocked, I'm not sure if I'm going to refund the money and the company didn't give any compensation for the situation that I had to face. It is the worse company to rent a car ever. I don't recommend and I will never rent with them again.
Extra payment
Rented a car with assurance - after handing back the car, we got an extra payment (same amount as the assurance we already payed for). Texted them to elaborate on their request - no answer at all, and it has been more than a week now. Awful experience and service. The extra payment is withdrawn from the account, but apparently we will never get them back. I highly recommend to NOT use Avis.
Beware of Renting from Avis
My girlfriend and I recently rented a car from Avis in Overtoom, Amsterdam to go to Eindhoven Airport and few days after I saw a charge of €1000 on my credit card. Upon calling them they told me that the charge was for alleged fire damages on the back seat of the car, which is ludicrous since we only had the car for about 2 hours to drive to the airport and there was nobody even sitting at the back seat. Avis was the only company with no staff at all to oversee the car return at the airport, which we already thought was a bad sign, so we had to use the key drop off and trust the process, which clearly failed us. Even after sending several emails to Avis about this, they have not presented a single evidence of fire damage to the car, leave alone anything suggesting our culpability. We are quite surprised a company as big and renowned as Avis is allowing such scams to be run under their name and nothing is being done to help customers like us in distress. We would really appreciate some form of intervention to help us get our money back.
Avis / Budget NL is useless
I rented a car with Avis / Budget NL in July 2022 through a third party (rentalcars.com). Despite the fact that the car was paid for in full to the third party, Avis NL keeps sending me invoice for this car rental.
I explained the situation several times, but they don't even reply to emails.
My strong advice: do NOT use this company!
Scam company
They decided 3 weeks after we returned the car that was a damage. And they never returned our deposit. Unbelievable scam company and total fraud. I don't recommend it.
Very bad experience with Avis Nederland
I want to share a very bad experience I had with Avis in Netherlands. I rented a car for 7 people but when I arrived in Netherlands, it was indeed for 7 people but no place for luggage, I complaint and all they said was this is what we have.
After I brought the car back after my vacation, everything was good but right after I am home, i get in total 6 charges that were supposed to be traffic fines and also that I returned the car damaged. I contacted the customer service and they corrected by saying that they were charges of 6 speeding tickets and no damage to the car.in January of this year, I received 2 letters from the dept of Justice of Netherlands that 2 fines are still open and I have been going back and forth with the customer service department and till todayI still have not been able to resolve the issue and I had 2 pay to tickets today again to the department of tickets that Avis already charged me on my Credit cards between August and September last year but only paid 3 of the 5 tickets. I always rented from Avis around the world that I visited but with this experience I will never rent again. I gave them enough time.to resolve this matter and they unforunately did not comply!
Look at the reviews for Zagreb Airport…
Look at the reviews for Zagreb Airport Avis!!
They are abusing the name of AVIS by ripping off EVERY customer!
They add on very expensive extra insurances that the customer does not want, then simply ask the customer to sign quickly in 2 places.
The costs for the extra insurance are shown in the local currency (KUNA) so the customer does not realize that hundreds of euros extra are added on. My car should have cost €133, instead they charged €324!!
This is disgraceful, criminal, incompetent, untrustworthy, illegal, and it is AVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Horrible
Rented a car. Never got the deposit back, or could reach them ever again. Please avoid.
scammer company, had to pay twice (380 Euro)
scammer company, I had to pay twice (380 Euro) as their reservation was not available at AVIS! shame!
Actually it has to be 5 stones not 1 star!!!!!
I reached the AVIS agency at Schiphol Airport with my voucher from eayterra in the hand. I had to know that my reservation was not available. Easyterra was not reachable by phone (Sunday) and had no backup phone number.
Avis did not accept to honor the reservation although all details of the booking were clear and already paid. They asked me to book with them directly (again) and pretended to having received the booking. I told the agent that this reservation is done over internet and e-systems that transfer the booking details immediately -
as per my experience with e-commerce. As she knew that she cannot bluff anymore, she said that the reservation has to be by them minimum 4 hours in the system until they release it. As I had to catch my flight to join the funeral of my mother, I had to make an additional reservation with AVIS and pay twice.
I requested a refund over 15 days ago from easyterra. Until today they did not reply.
Calling their worst customer service is absolutely nonsense. They either hang up or are not available. Today, their polish customer service agent said to me very cool and unpleasant:" i will not hear even if you would explain to me your case for hours..."
I am really speechless!
