Saftey oversights and sheer incompetence
We hired Avon surveying services to conduct a home survey 9 months ago, and the experience has been incredibly disappointing. We relied on their report, which gave the property a clean bill of health with only "minor" notes. Since moving in, we have uncovered a series of significant issues that should have been flagged by any competent surveyor.
The process was problematic from the start; we actually had to request three separate amendments to their report before we even completed the purchase, which should have been a red flag. Their final report was fundamentally flawed and missed a massive number of significant defects:
* Major Plumbing Disasters: They failed to identify that the kitchen sink was not connected properly and that the shower was non-functional. When we finally got the shower working, it leaked straight through the ceiling and caused flooding downstairs.
* Serious Safety Hazards: We discovered a live, exposed electrical wire, as well as a concerning amount of pesticide powder hidden under fixturesnone of which were flagged in the survey.
* Structural & Maintenance Neglect: The report missed significant cracking around windows and doors, and a garden shed that was in a state of advanced rot.
We have spent a small fortune fixing problems we were assured were non-existent. We attempted to raise these concerns with the company, but the oversight has been significant and costly. If you are looking for a survey that actually provides peace of mind and an accurate picture of a property, I strongly recommend choosing a different firm. This company failed to identify basic defects, and we are now paying the price for it.
