10 years of paying premiums -THEY LET ME DOWN

After 10 years of paying premiums for BCAA service, I have had 2 incidences this year.
First time, they never showed up, paid for a local towing service to get my car to a repair shop.
Second time, stuck on Hwy #1, placed on hold then 15 minutes later, was disconnected. Tried again to find I was now behind 8 others, just to talk to them. What a waste of money and loyalty to company that can't walk their talk.
Save your time and money, when you need help call a local shop.

Home insurance doubled

Home insurance cost in 2023 was $889 (close estimate). In 2025 they more than doubled in price. (Zero claims) Customer for many years… Also, we bought a cabin the Caribou they would not insure because we were too far from firehall, too far from hydrant, and the foundation wasn’t cement (We have a better and stronger option) Pointed out firehall was 450 meters from cabin. They came back and said volunteer fire dept. No guarantee they would respond. Got letter from captain stating they will respond, have 4 fire trucks avail and any given moment of notice. Then, they said ok but they only have 29 volunteers, not enough according to their policy. Asked to see this made up policy (doesn’t exist). Went with Hub insurance for our cabin. Way better service, covered cabin no problem. Switched our main insurance to another provider. Coverage for home more in line ($200,000 more than BCAA for home) Same with property coverage. Included earthquake insurance, flood and much more on the personal loss coverages . Policy about $400 cheaper per year. Will be renewing vehicles and travel trailer through different insurance company as well. BCAA has gone down hill. Used to buy medical coverage for out if country. Read horror stories about getting anything covered after an incident. Made it very difficult and uncomfortable for many families traveling. (Check out reviews on trip advisor)

I have had BCAA for many years and…7 years this time

I have had BCAA since 2019 this time and rarely used the services. I feel they used to have good service and reviews.
Today my motorcycle cable broke leaving me stranded on a busy Vancouver street. BCAA told me there are extra charges($21) to include motorcycles and extra charges for towing it more than 5 KM today.
I said ok so they said I would get a call soon from tow service. (11;30am) told wait 1/2 - 3/4 hr.
(1:30; 2:30 & 2:50) still min 45 minute wait each time. The street parking is prohibited after 3 pm so I had to manhandle it to side street. Now my battery was around 10% also so being on hold for long periods was scaring me. I finally cancelled BCAA and I decided to take Evo home .(a BCAA company) - more headaches so I gave up.
I called my wife to get me at 4:30 pm. Day wasted and frustrating. The motorcycle is still stranded on side street-hopefully ok. My opinion is greatly altered and I had to upgrade for no service benefits.

Horrible Road Side Assistance.

Horrible
Im still suck on side of hwy 17 in city of 2million people for over 20 hours and BCAA is horrible not finding someone to assist my boat trailer.
Horrible, Horrible service.
If they cant help me here as a customer of over 2 decades what about rural BC. Useless service and not an emergency service. The dispatch and workers have been absolutely no help for 20 hours just lip service. I am in a dangerous location and they cant find someone to help me.

Dishonest auto centre

Between roadside assistance and the local BCAA auto shop it would be hard to figure a more incompetent, dishonest and unfriendly group. The roadside assistance gave a quote to replace the battery service inclusive of taxes and installation.(this matched their website price that you enter your car details). However after 3 +hour wait, roadside assistance said the mechanic cannot change the battery (can only give a boost) and suggested taking it to BCAA auto centre. The BCAA auto shop quotes 50% higher ($200+) - when questioned said it is because the battery is in the trunk and it is our company policy. So over $200 to install a battery on top of the markup by Roadside Assistance. What a bunch of cheats! And btw AMA did a battery change at home in 15 mins at half the cost.

Well over a dozen visits, lots of money, lots of time, turns out they knew what it was all along and simply couldn't fix it but just didn't tell me

My had an intermittent starting issue. I had to have it towed well over a dozen times. I had it in the BCAA Auto center well over half a dozen times. I paid a lot of money. They said they had to remove my auto start, security system, and automatic key lock. Luckily I got a tow truck driver who was good. Their tow truck drivers are great. He was able to tell them what it was, many times. It was in the shop twice in June, and twice in July. Every visit and every tow was for the exact same issue. I spoke with someone today who told me that they knew back in June what the issue was. They told me they did not know what the issue was. In fact, they kept making appointments and just telling me it did not, not start for them. Unfortunately, going over the records with someone else today showed that they knew what it was a long time ago and it was a driving hazard. They simply did not tell me. So much money and so much time wasted and as it turns out my family being put at risk.

Blown tire

Was driving through the mountains and had my tire blow from a pot hole at Hope. The people I spoke with were kind and caring. The best was Kyle the tow truck driver who came to help us. He went out of his way to support us and get us through a challenging stressful time and experience. He got us hooked up and somewhere to get a new tire and helped with some amazing advice about tires etc.
Hands down it was Kyle who saved me from an emotional and mental breakdown from this car breakdown and made sure my whole family was safe and got us somewhere we could get a new tire.

Don’t buy the BCAA battery.

Generally the membership is of value. However, I had a new battery installed by BCAA and paid $280. I came to learn that price is very high. They push the batteries on a service call for a jump start. It’s a gimmick, don’t fall for it like me.

Wait times for road side assistance are unacceptable

Wait times for road side assistance are unacceptable. I was broken down on a busy highway at 5:50 pm. There was no shoulder so I was in the curb lane. Traffic was forced to change lanes to go around me. I called BCAA for roadside assistance 5:33 pm. We were initially told the wait time for a tow was 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. I received a text at 6:32 that the estimated time of arrival was now 7:32 pm. I called again at 7:35 pm and was told the truck was on the way, but probably stuck in traffic. I called again at 7:55 pm and was told the same. I insisted on talking to dispatch to find out exactly where the truck was. After 15 minutes on hold I was told the truck was on another call and would be at least another 45 minutes. I was getting dark. It was not safe to sit in the vehicle as we were almost hit a couple of times when oncoming traffic did not notice us in time and could not change lanes. I ended up having to try driving my truck with a burned out clutch to get out of danger. Not to mention that we were cold and hungry. My husband and I are in our 70's. We had felt secure that we had BCAA. That feeling is now gone.

Dificult to cancel

I’m unable to cancel or stop the automatic renewal of my home insurance through their website. The system requires customers to call or email to prevent renewal or cancel.

It’s disappointing to see a company make this process unnecessarily difficult. I’ll be moving my business to another company in the future.

If we could provide 0 Stars we…

If we could provide 0 Stars we absolutely would without any hesitation as the customer service representative treated us like absolute garbage. It is truly unfortunate as their service up until this point was phenomenal. It is an absolute tragedy that the representative chose to degrade us to the point of looking for other insurance options, which was never in our mind throughout the 10 years we have been loyal customers.

1 star is already generous

1 star is already generous. If you don’t live in the lower mainland then their roadside assistance is basically a scam. They may just tell you they don’t provide the services they sold you in your area and leave you hanging. They might offer to tow you somewhere but you’re on your own to figure where that ‘somewhere’ might be and then pay for the services you get there even though all you are going to do is something that BCAA claim they provide as a service. They are nearly useless in rural parts of BC.

Went into local office for home…

Went into local office for home insurance. Told first person I met that I had a claim settled last year for firestorm destroying my house. No problem said buddy. I then wasted many hours applying to them including inarticulate emails from them.
Eventually they decided that the risk to them in my gated community in the city was too great and my application was denied. Horrible waste of my time.
