We had a sales phone call promotion regarding a F/P servicing with a cost of 99.00 We were told that there was a $50 Fortis rebate available. We accepted the offer and a technician from Midland Mechanical attended a couple days later. He proceeded to remove and clean the glass and then got out his little gizmo to check for gas leaks. When he ran it over an area it started to beep. Of course he started in with how this was a dangerous leak which should be looked after. He proceeded to tell me it would be around $1300 to replace the gas valve, ignition and power pile. I declined and he put the glass cover back in place all the while playing up the seriousness of this “leak”. I’ve been in areas where there is a small amount of gas present and you sure as hell can smell it. I talked with another mechanical contractor and he basically said I paid $100 to get the glass cleaned. Live and learn.
