Definitely a visit not to be repeated
Recently visited BC for an afternoon tea purchased by my children as a gift. On arriving I tried to pay for parking via telephone as stated on the display boards in the car park, spent approx 10 mins with no success. Took my voucher to the kiosk and stated that the parking did not work. What they do not tell you is how steep and slippy the walk is up to the castle, by the time i got to the castle I was out of breath and having difficulty to walk ( 2 broken ankles over the last 2 years) My husband asked if it was possible to collect me from the top level castle car park, no problem, very helpful, but there were no signs of how to pay for parking. 5 days later a fine arrives for £100. What an expensive day out! definitely a visit not to be repeated. Beautiful views, atrocious car parking facilities. Love historic buildings, but will not visit ever again due to the £100 fine which we feel was very unfair under the circumstances!
The carpark charges left a bitter…
The carpark charges left a bitter taste.
We went to the castle and gardens which was ok,gardens in need of some TLC.
When we went to pay for the car park we paid what it said on the machine. We have received a carparking fine for insufficient tariff paid. Is this a scam??? Is this the only automated number plate recognition system that doesn't state the correct fee? My appeal was rejected because it's the driver's responsibility to make sure the correct tariff is paid. I wasn't even sure of how long I'd been there as we had a walk round the engine yard too.
Money grabbing charlatans so beware!!!
First but not last visit
My daughter and I visited the castle today for the first time. We were met in each room by friendly, proactive and knowledgeable guides/volunteers and really enjoyed our visit.
The Castle is a beautiful home and it's lovely to see so many family photos on display. The castle feels very much a home and that lends a pleasant and welcoming environment.
Thanks especially to our guide in the guardroom and to Carl and Norman. You are all super ambassadors!
Absolute scam with the parking never again!
Absolute scam with the parking! I paid my parking on exit as told by the belvoir castle staff at the entrance and wow I’ve received a lovely £100 fine! Absolutely disgusted and appalled that belvoir castle think it’s an acceptable way to treat their customers and the patronising and rude attitude in their responses to these reviews on here says it all, they don’t give a damn! The fact you can’t even speak to anyone on the phone about it says what robbers they are, I will be letting others know not to visit and I certainly won’t ever be returning!
CAR PARKING RIP OFF - BELVOIR CASTLE!
My first visit to Belvoir Castle on 18/07/21 will almost certainly be my last. I have received a car parking fine of £100. Staff told me on entry to pay at machine on exit which I duly did as machine said I owed £2.20. This was entry at 13.28 and exit 16.05 (this time included one free hour). I appealed this morning and got reply straight back rejecting it. You are invited to appeal to independent POPLA but warned if you do and lose you cannot pay reduced fine. This set up is totally appalling and quite frankly think the onus certainly lies with Belvoir Castle for allowing this to continue on their land.
3 people cannot have afternoon tea
Can only book afternoon tea for 2,4,6 people - there were 3 of us. We were told to book and pay for 4 and take a doggie bag home!!!! Absolutely crackers!!!!
Parking Scam a Huge Issue!
Per some other reviews, have received unwarranted parking notice on return home. Signage says pay on exit, which I did. Parking time/charge is automated by machine, I paid the requested amount. Now have a demand for £100. I have appealed to Initial Parking but based on other reviews, I’m willing to wager my appeal will be rejected. I appreciate it is not Belvoir Castle who run the parking, although interestingly my receipt for parking payment shows the recipient as “Belvoir Castle” and not “Initial Parking”. Ultimately, parking is on the Castle’s land and they are allowing their customers to be ripped off by standing by and doing nothing when this happens (which, if Trip Adviser is anything to go by, is very often!). I will not be paying. Belvoir need to seriously reconsider their arrangement with Initial Parking because they are ruining customers’ visits.
Looked forward to visiting but badly let down
We visited on saturday and were amazed at the parking charges - both carparks have free time but in one it's 2 hours free and the one by the castle is only 1 hour free. Why? They are opposite each other.
Considering we only saw one guide ( in the picture room and she was excellent ) the entry price is very expensive. We tried to have lunch in the castle restaurant - the wrong drinks were brought after a half hour wait and a complaint and were followed 10 minutes later by underfilled sandwiches which averaged £9 each. We had to even ask for forks to eat the dish of coldslaw. My gammon sandwich wasnt too bad but my husbands cheese and chutney sandwich had hardly any cheese in it and neither sandwich was filled to the edges , leaving about half an inch of bare bread on each all around. Such very poor service and so overpriced food! We left feeling we had been ripped off and couldnt wait to get out of the place.
The rose garden was superb but overall it wasnt worth
Parking Charges extra
Booked online for gardens - no concessions for over 60's, then arrived to find charges for parking of which there is no mention on the website. Gardens mediocre - needing some attention, woodland walks ok with decent paths, can only think that the garden staff were furloughed last year and have yet to catch up so sorry to them.
Daylight robbery
Rubbish experience. I can only assume the manners family must be so desperate for cash they have to rob customers. charged twice for afternoon tea - no refund to date. Was given incorrect information by staff with regards parking and now have a £60 fine to pay! Beware! if you must visit this 3rd rate attraction pay very strict attention to the parking rules & do NOT under any circumstance trust any BC employee/volunteer...& i suggest you overpay because Initial Parking will fine you for any error! We recently moved to this area and we will never ever return, £130 for afternoon tea for 2! Go somewhere else...
£3.50 just to park your car
£3.50 just to park your car?
You're having a laugh, drove straight out.
Fantastic Easter experience
Fantastic Easter experience. Lovely warm welcome from the Easter Bunny with great Easter trail and goodies for the kids. Fabulous hot chocolate, sausage rolls & cupcakes enjoying the wonderful view. Thank you for a great day!
Lovely time!
Went to the firework championship event here and it was amazing thoroughly enjoyed it! This weekend I’m going to concert at the castle with friends and can’t wait!!
Having booked to attend the Belvoir…
Having booked to attend the Belvoir Castle ‘Christmas Treats’ Festive Food and Drinks Fair in 2019 and paid our £100 deposit the event was cancelled due to bad weather.
I was told that the Insurance company would repay the money paid - no repayment was made and no one wants to reply to us or take responsibility - so £100 down - do not trust anyone involved with this outfit!
Opening Hours - Belvoir Castle - Grantham
My daughter travelled with her Italian friend to visit the castle as when she looked at their website it said it was open but on arrival was told it was closed due to a corporate event - when we called they said that it was on the website but we couldn't find it and was told that they are ONLY open at weekends - this must be one stately home that doesn't need the money for its upkeep .......... she then went to Burghley House and thoroughly enjoyed herself .......
