Written by the company

Bluelight has been at the forefront of harm reduction in the global drug use community since 1999. Best known for our online forum, and more recently, our thriving Discord server, we provide people who use drugs a safe space to share, explore and receive relevant information, all aimed at reducing harm through drug use. Our platforms are formed of a broad mix of individuals all with varying drug related experiences. Our long-standing history brings an extensive archive of information, insights and supportive groups. Unlike many harm reduction organizations, we openly welcome collaboration with research organizations. These partnerships provide an opportunity for our community to inform and participate in research that further supports people who use drugs, provides better recovery options, and provides real world insights about drug use. In 2023, the Australian charity Bluelight Communities Ltd was formed. This charity now governs Bluelight’s activities, ensuring security for our ongoing operations and future endeavors.

This site changes and saves lives

Bluelight has changed my life for the better since I first joined a few years ago.
The website & Discord have provided me with a community where I truly feel accepted and like I belong.
I've gained life-saving harm reduction knowledge and advice.
This knowledge has helped me to not only use safely, but to ensure that those around me use safely as well.
Many of my friends on and off Bluelight have told me that the information Bluelight provides (and that I have provided by sharing information I first learned on Bluelight) has saved their life.
This site has likely prevented thousands of deaths, and I expect it to continue to do so.

Highly Dangerous Community for Active Drug Users

This site contains highly dangerous information about taking illicit substances. It markets itself as a ‘harm reduction’ forum but it is basically just an online club for active drug users to congregate and talk about how much they love drugs.

It actively encourages the most dangerous drug use and contains a shrine to all of its many former members who have been killed by drugs because they never got professional help or advice.

People with drug questions or problems would be better off consulting their doctor or a qualified drug counsellor.

We have only just joined Trustpilot and so are responding to this review that is now years old. Our apologies for only just being made aware of it.

We agree that many people who use drugs should bring the topic to their medical professional or a qualified drug counsellor.

Our website is not meant to be a replacement for medical help. We are peers trying to help each other - we provide information, support and community. Many of our members don't feel comfortable talking about stigmatised behaviour with professionals, although we absolutely encourage people to do this where possible.

The philosophy of harm reduction is to meet people where they are at. Some people are going to continue to use drugs. They come to Bluelight because they will not get judged or turned away even if they continue to use drugs. We can still reach them with information about reducing risks.

We also support abstinence and have members of our volunteer community in recovery. We have a recovery area. We also think that having our shrine helps people mourn as well as demonstrates the dangers that surround drugs - many of which arise from the prohibition of drugs and the draconian policies used to enforce it.
