Great work by good people

While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

I want to add my firsthand experience and observations.
First, I want to make this very clear: I am not pointing out my lack of trust with any malice, but to make people aware of the experiences I had with this business. I obtained this information through their own emails, standard Google searches, and publicly available information online. It is a cautionary warning if you decide to engage with this business.
Between the two professional editorial reviewers on Goodreads, there is little to no online presence or information about their qualifications or experience in professional editorial reviewing. They have multiple profiles on the Goodreads website under the same names but with different photos, and very little information in the profiles. No LinkedIn page, no portfolios on the website, or anywhere else on the internet.
The website was set up with good intentions of providing a place for indie authors to have their books shown to the public through their website, and it is free to upload your book.
They offer “Professional Editorial Reviews” at a cost. Admittedly, many indie writers may find the pricing affordable.
There is no business information such as business registration, terms and conditions, or refund policies clearly shown on their website.
These inconsistencies raised concerns for me about transparency.
The way my review was delivered: there was no notification that the review had been completed and uploaded to their website, no copy of the review emailed to me, and the timeframe and word count did not match what was advertised. There were also no details provided about the promised placements on Amazon, Goodreads, or social media platforms.
Any follow up inquiries about the review were met with replies that felt dismissive or ambiguous, without addressing the questions I asked.
My conclusion: they set out with a good idea, and it was an admirable idea. However, based on my experience, including the inconsistencies, missing deliverables, and communication issues, I would encourage others to approach with caution.
So, buyer be aware.
I was not familiar with Book Shelfie until it popped up on a list of reviewers used by independent authors. I decided to give them a try and submit my soon-to-be-released short story collection. Their submission page was easy to follow, and the review was posted about three weeks later. I smiled when I read it, not only because it was a positive review (thankfully!) but because the review itself was beautifully written by someone who had obviously read the stories very carefully. It is, so far, the most analytical and thorough review my work has received. I can recommend Book Shelfie without hesitation. Thank you for the service you provide for independent authors.
Does what it says on the tin
Book Shelfie is a legit site for authors. I received a kind and thoughtful review from what certainly seemed to me to be a real human, in a timely manner. The review was promoted on their social media and everything was communicated clearly to me via email before and after the release. I got exactly what I hoped to get and no BS.
Book Shelfie really "got" what my novel is about. Their review was fair and quite detailed. They obviously read the book carefully, including my Author's Note at the end. They provided several pull-out quotes which I can use on my website and my author page on Amazon. Overall, a very positive experience. Thank you, Book Shelfie!
My thriller novel Duped in America was reviewed by Maria Ashford and she did a commendable job, above and beyond what I expected. She obviously read the whole 325 page book and was able to fully grasp the concept of what I was trying to convey. Lucky for me she had previously reviewed my first novel and I was equally pleased with her work product. I wholeheartedly recommend this company to writers who are beyond the newbie stage and ready for an honest assessment of their talent, money well spent.
Having written my first novel, I believe nothing validates it more than a professional review from someone who actually knows what they are talking about. I contacted Adam Rowan at Book-Shelfie. He was happy to answer all my questions and has subsequently been very helpful. I therefore submitted my manuscript to Book-Shelfie.com and requested a review. Within two weeks, I received confirmation that the in-depth review was live on their site, which I was also able to share and download to various online platforms. Having read it, I consider it to be a fair assessment. So much so that I later submitted my second novel to them, which has also been published. I would certainly recommend Book-Shelfie for a thorough and detailed review of your manuscript.
