Great Service

It was easy to order the book and l was notified of the progress of the order and delivery. It arrived well packaged and in great condition.

Very poor service and inefficient

Very poor service and inefficient. Do not buy from Booktopia if you want your book soon. I ordered on 11 May 2025. But shockingly they took 10 days to prepare the postage label for my order ! That's why this type of business cannot compete and will not survive ! What on earth the staff are doing for the past 10 days ? Unbelievable !

Prompt delivery but the book was slightly damaged. Put it this way, I would not have picked up this copy if it were a normal retailer

SCAM site BEWARE

the whole scamming people out of 15 million dollars seriously hurt their reputation and as one of those people stolen from i refuse to do business with them ever again, once a thief always a thief i'd stay way away from this place and just order from amazon or something

However, due to Booktopia entering Voluntary Adminstration, any orders placed before 3rd July are directly the responsibility of the Administrators. Unfortunately, the only way to get reimbursed via the Administrators is to complete a Proof of Debt form. We understand this may not be ideal, however we do not have control over this process. Great Service

Easy to navigate website. Found exactly what I was looking for at a great price. Booktopia picked up that there was damage to the book I ordered and had no hesitation in contacting me to say what the holdup was and that a replacement was being sourced and was sent out promptly..... Great customer service!

Booktopia Preorders

I typically have only ordered from Booktopia in order to preorder books and each time they have stuffed up. On the day of the books release I will receive an email telling me that the book is out of stock for about a month. And I don’t see much reason in pre-ordering from Booktopia if they can’t ensure they have enough of them, and if it’s gonna take an entire month to get it. If this was a one off incident it would still be an annoyance but at least somewhat understandable. But this is the second time. And Booktopia could have done so much to avoid this, they could reach out to customers and explain the situation outside of an automated email on the day of the release, or they could actually ensure they can get the book before taking preorders because now I am waiting for a preorder when people have already gone out and brought this book.

I thought Booktopia had gone, and was happy to find them still providing the same great service and incredible choices of books and literature available on their website. Thanks for the speedy delivery and regular updates on where my order was headed.

Gift certificate not honoured

The new Booktopia management has made a decision to dishonour all gift certificates generated before 3rd July, 2023, even though their initial expiry date was much longer. My $100 gift certificate had an expiry of December this year, and is now unusable. I find this pretty revealing as to the priorities of new management.

Massive warning about Booktopia report to ACCC

Whatever you do DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING from Booktopia. They are in receivership and DO NOT HAVE books to fill their orders. And if you receive an order- it takes MONTHS !

I will be lodging a report with the ACCC - the Australian Consumer Complaints Commission

Booktopia reply to reviews asking for order details when they know it is NOT POSSIBLE to respond to them on Trustpilot.

They also do not respond to chats or emails from their website.

So by the way Booktopia, if you are going to respond to this review, how will I answer you - will you provide a direct number to your Receivers? Because I want a REFUND !

DISAPPOINTED

I have been a loyal customer of Booktopia for many reasons including that their prices are generally cheaper compared to other bookstores. I recently ordered books from them and received part of my order as other books had to be printed. I must say the quality of printing of one book was NOT up to standard. I reported this to Booktopia and this was a very cumbersome process. Not only did they request photos, multiple times, their customer service rep (whom I spoke to just before 5pm today) was quite passive aggressive and used a very confrontational tone with me. Their voice recording clearly says you should speak politely to their staff yet they do not do same. I will give credit to Nestor because he was very helpful and professional earlier during the day when I called to raise this issue. Quality assurance is a basic business practice and in this case Booktopia failed dismally. It is quite unfair to inconvenience a customer and expect them to carry the costs of returning products for a measly store credit. Indeed you get what you pay for. Cheap doesn't always mean good quality. If you buy from Booktopia, just know that if you have issues you will get NO refund (but a credit note) and you will have to incur costs for returns even if it is not your fault. You may even get penalised should AusPost cause any damages to the books during transit! Take a gamble or stay away. Read the terms and conditions carefully to avoid disappointment and frustration.

Scam

Stole my money, delivered nothing in return. Took about $100 off me for an academic/professional manual, never delivered the product, refused to refund or deliver the book. Literal theft. Essentially a scam. Terrible customer service, will steal your money, avoid at all costs. Go to your local bookstore and order through them if they don't have it in stock.

They took my book order in June 2024…

They took my book order in June 2024 knowing full well they were going insolvent. Now that they have been bought out and repaid all the big creditors they won't reimburse the individuals. Got a response saying 'sorry, we can't give you back your money'. And they continue as new! Sending me emails like everything is normal. I am going to make it my life's work to strongly not recommend them to everyone I meet. Such a terrible attitude to previously loyal customers.
