Avoid at all costs

I regret purchasing a chair from this company. It arrived with a serious design flaw that made it unusable within days. When I followed their instructions to disassemble the chair (in hopes of fixing it), I ended up injuring my back due to the poor build quality and unsafe mechanism.

Despite being well within the 30-day return period under UK consumer law, the company refused to issue a full refund unless I somehow located a box to return the now-disassembled chair myself. They also claimed they had no packaging available in their warehouse, which seems highly unlikely for a business that handles returns.

Instead of taking accountability, they offered me £40 and spare parts — for a chair that was unsafe to begin with. Even after providing photos, following every instruction, and clearly explaining the situation, they continued to delay, ignore the law, and shift responsibility back to me.

This experience has been both physically harmful and extremely frustrating. I’ve had to prepare to escalate the matter legally via Section 75 and Trading Standards — which should never be necessary for a basic product return.

Avoid this company. If anything goes wrong, expect evasive customer service, broken promises, and zero accountability.

Very upset

Very upset. I bought a Boulies chair in July 2019 and had it for nearly 6 years, it was wonderful.

I decided to buy another as I built a garden office, so wanted it to match the colour scheme.

On the 21st of May, I received the chair. However, the base had pierced the box and had clearly been dragged on hard ground, scraping the paint off and damaging the metal base. Not a problem, I'll email customer support. They were very helpful, offered me £10 as an apology and to send out another base. I declined the £10 as I'm more than happy to pay the full price, just as long as I get the chair as advertised.

I then received the new seat base on the 26th of May. The box wasn't damaged and the base was bubble wrapped well. HOWEVER, again, this base looked as if it had been dragged and damaged. So someone either in packing or before has damaged this.

Again, I contacted support. They now offered me £20 as an apology. I told them I didn't want another base because I will be stuck with 2 of them. Of which I will have to drive 1 hour to the tip, costing me in time and fuel.

Now I'm stuck with two damaged bases.

Very very disappointed with this service. I went for Boulies because I liked their chairs and don't want to go for something like Secret Lab. But next time, I will.

Not trying to deter anyone from buying a Boulies chair, but warning you of the experience I have had.

Out of the box the tilt mechanism was…

Out of the box the tilt mechanism was grinding. Contacted customer support. They wanted me to dump WD40 in to it, but eventually agreed to send me a replacement tilt mechanism.

They didn't send any tool to remove the cylinder from the old tilt mechanism. Before I went to buy a pipe wrench to try that, I went to put the new tilt mechanism on the chair. The new tilt mechanism rattles like a loose screw is inside and only 3 of the holes lined up. It arrived bent, so the 4th hole doesn't line up.

I left a negative review on their website, and a day later it was removed. Think it's quite clear this company is a scam, and chances are most of these reviews are fake as well.
