I ordered a wedding dress from Brautkleidguenstiger.de which included £30.60 for delivery to the UK. I believed this was the total amount I would need to pay.
After the dress had been shipped, I had to pay a further £222.96 before releasing it. This included £137.37 in import VAT, £73.59 in customs duty and a £12 handling fee.
The dress was not worth the amount I ultimately paid. These additional charges were not made clear before I placed the order. The website advertised international delivery and displayed a delivery charge at checkout, but failed to clearly warn me that I could face hundreds of pounds in extra costs. If I had known about the additional £222.96, I would never have ordered from this retailer.
I was forced to pay the charge because I did not want my wedding dress returned, but the situation caused significant stress and made me feel completely misled about the true price. It is unacceptable for a retailer to leave customers discovering such substantial fees only after their order has been shipped.
Since then, the retailer has ignored me completely. They have not acknowledged or replied to any of my emails, which has made the situation even more frustrating.
This retailer was not transparent about the total cost and has provided no meaningful customer service after the issue arose.
I cannot recommend Brautkleidguenstiger.de to customers. Stay away unless you are prepared for a potentially shocking extra bill after purchase and are willing to receive no response if you raise a complaint.
