Impossible KYC, even with your regular company

Their KYC is impossible and you have to provide your soul if you want to make your company regular in their system.

Hi Jordan,

Customer satisfaction is at the core of everything we do, and I sincerely apologize for the frustration the KYC process caused you.
I personally checked your ticket and reached out to you directly to make things right.

While our compliance process is strict by necessity, a declined KYC should never mean a dead end with no alternatives or path forward.
We have a wide range of solutions that do not require KYC at all, and I would love the chance to personally build the right setup for your use case.

The way this was handled fell short of our standards and we have already taken steps internally to ensure customers in your situation receive the care and follow up they deserve.

I am looking forward to your reply and genuinely eager to get this right for you.

Hi Oliver,

My name is Adam, Support Team Leader at Bright Data. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to us, and your feedback does not go unnoticed.

I want to be transparent - we have no record of a support request from your end, and I'm confident our team could have helped resolve this had we been contacted.

The ERR_CONNECTION_RESET error you're experiencing is most likely related to the proxy mode being used. Residential proxies on Immediate Access mode that can interfere with browser extension usage.

For Chrome extension workflow, ISP and Full access Residential Proxies are the recommended solution, offering the stable and consistent connectivity that this type of workflow requires.

I've reached out to you directly and would love to understand your use case better so we can get you set up properly.

Please feel free to reply here or contact me directly at adamr@brightdata.com - I'm happy to schedule a call and personally walk you through the right setup.

We'd love the chance to turn this experience around for you, Oliver.

Misleading for Individuals, No Refund, and Essentially Unusable Without a Company

Update to my original review:

I want to provide an update to the review I posted earlier. After sharing my feedback, Bright Data’s support team reached out and put in a genuine, sustained effort to understand my situation and explore possible solutions.

While Bright Data ultimately was not the right fit for my specific use case, that was due to a mismatch in needs rather than a lack of effort on their part. Their platform is clearly built for more advanced or enterprise-style workflows, whereas I was specifically looking for a simple, GUI-based tool to visually monitor website changes.

What absolutely deserves recognition is their customer support. It is world class. Easily 10 out of 10. I have rarely, if ever, interacted with a company whose support team was this responsive, thoughtful, and invested in trying to help. Every company should strive to reach this level of customer care.

Although I ended up using a different service that better matched my needs, I would still recommend Bright Data to others based solely on the quality of their support and professionalism. I would also keep them in mind for future projects where their capabilities are a better fit.

The original review below reflects my initial experience and frustration as an individual user, but it is only fair to acknowledge the exceptional support effort that followed.

----
Original review:
Bright Data markets itself as a powerful proxy and scraping platform, but the reality for individual users is frustrating, misleading, and borderline predatory.

I signed up, paid, and only after running into errors did I learn that Bright Data is effectively unusable for private individuals. If you are not a registered company with a company email domain and incorporation documents, you are locked out of full functionality. This is not made clear upfront in any meaningful way.

Key issues:

• Residential and Browser API access is crippled unless you pass KYC
KYC is only available to registered companies
• Individuals cannot complete KYC under any circumstances
• Robots.txt restrictions block common real world use cases
• Support repeatedly tells you to “contact your account manager” even when you do not have one
• AI support loops you through the same scripted answers
• Human support eventually confirms there is no solution
• Refund request was denied despite the service being unusable for my situation

In plain terms, if you are a normal person doing personal, hobby, or side projects, Bright Data will take your money and then tell you after the fact that you are not eligible to use the product as advertised.

Support was polite but ineffective. I spent days going back and forth only to be told there is no workaround and no refund. That is unacceptable.

Bright Data should clearly and prominently state before checkout that individuals cannot access full residential or browser features and that refunds are not available if you discover this later.

Unless you are a registered business with paperwork ready, avoid this service.

Warning! Danger!

Dangerous! and basically useless...

First they get their residential IPs with an sdk integrated on partners mobile apps (cat games and shady apps) most users don't have a clue to what they agreed to and the potential consequences.

They DONT provide any proper https proxy nor a proper encryption, instead they asks you to install their own ssl certificate to be able to use any encryption which basically mean they see all your traffic in clear text... login/pass etc.

Their trial is highly limited and can only give access to a couple of select sites...

You will probably be asked to KYC at some point... probably because of the nature of how they get their IPs... never the less I wont give my ID to an EXPENSIVE residential proxy that CAPTURE all my traffic in clear and make it go throught "grand ma" phone which had already been scammed by an other sniffing app.

The internet became a weird place.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate the chance to clear up a few misunderstandings about our services, as some of the information you’ve shared isn’t quite accurate.

Let’s clarify:

1. Residential IPs via SDKs
We partner with app developers who integrate our SDK. Participation is completely opt-in, and users are informed upfront about how their internet bandwidth is shared. Transparency and compliance with privacy laws, like GDPR and CCPA, are core to how we operate. Nothing is hidden—users are always in control.

2. HTTPS Proxy & SSL Certificates
To enable secure, encrypted connections, we offer an SSL certificate that helps users interact with secure sites through our proxy. This doesn’t mean we have access to your private information like login credentials. Your traffic remains encrypted end-to-end, and privacy is always a priority.

3. Trial Limitations
Our free trial is limited to specific features and websites to allow users to explore our tools responsibly and securely. This also helps us ensure compliance and prevent abuse during trials.

4. KYC Verification
Yes, we may ask for KYC, but this is about security and responsibility. We ensure our services aren’t used for unethical purposes, and all data provided is handled securely, following strict privacy protocols.

5. Privacy & Data Security
We do not collect personal information via the SDK. It only utilizes shared bandwidth to index publicly available web data. Everything we do aligns with global data protection laws, and we’re proud of our strong reputation for trust and security.

We hope this clears up any confusion. If you’d like to dive deeper into any of these points, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to explain more.

Terrible onboarding

After three weeks waiting for business verification to use residential proxies, I am still unable to use the service. Support keeps handing me over to a single salesperson who is unable to help, as he keeps getting hung-up on a separate request and does not seem to be reading my (over a dozen) emails. My KYC verification was never accepted or rejected, and I was told that the service was enabled only for the KYC application I had submitted to disappear and the dashboard to ask for my ID details once again.

Luckily we were able to use alternative services for our project. I understand the need for KYC and security in this service, but we are looking to use the service for a legal and responsible use and have had our time wasted.
