Broadbent & Co was set up in 1996 by Steven and Elizabeth Broadbent. Steve was the Chair of the National Network for Access Centres until 2013 and so very much involved in DSA developments at a national level. Their ethos was simple, the belief that "everyone must be seen and treated as an individual with their own individual needs. These needs must be identified in order for them to realise their own potential in education, employment and for life". In May 2018, Steve very sadly passed away. His son, Andrew, continues to follow in his footsteps and is the CEO of Broadbent Assist Ltd, Director alongside Elizabeth Broadbent, and he is also an active Needs Assessor.

Charlotte was really helpful when it came to my DSA assessment and even explained to me what my report actually meant and thoroughly explained what additional help I would be entitled to making the whole process a lot easier for myself, she was really kind and understanding when explaining things a different way if I didn’t quite understand what it meant or if I needed something to be repeated

After being very unsure about the whole process, it was actually very easy and quick to book an appointment. Very quick turn around from filling out the initial for to the actual appointment itself, maybe 3-4 days? I had Nikki who was really wonderful, listened to everything and was very supportive. She made suggestions for things I didn't even think about, very very thorough and caring. The entire process overall was harmless, I was really worried about nothing at all. I can't recommend Broadbent and Co enough for helping me out.

I had a needs assessment through broadbent and co.
Booking in process: I phoned, and was offered help to book in over the phone or fill out a form online (I did the form, it took 30 seconds). They got in touch very quickly to offer an appointment, by email and text which was really helpful. I forgot to respond in any case, but they very kindly held the appointment and sent a reminder so I didn’t miss out despite my disorganisation.
The appointment itself was far more positive and helpful than I had hoped it would be, I’d wrongly assumed it was another “efficient” tickbox assessment, but we had a long conversation around my difficulties and some examples of what they led to. The assessor made some helpful formal recommendations and offered some really genuine, informal supportive tips. I found it helpful even as a standalone conversation.
I am unsure if I was particularly lucky, or if this company knowingly has processes in place that allowed for someone with ADHD to obtain and retain an appointment, and give it sufficient purpose and resource to feel it was a positive experience.
I’m aware my assessor was working as a freelance, but she went over and above to make sure I was fully supported.

I had a needs assessment carried out on the 18th October of 2023, A lot of information and questions were asked about myself during a one to one telephone consultation. This was to discuss what support I felt would be suitable for me and I was able to be very honest, concise and mention everything in detail without being criticised this made me feel reassured. it has now enabled me to make my academic journey bearable and knowing the support is in place I can use it to the best of my ability and I know it can guide me in a better direction.

Andrew was extremely professional and clear, but also really warm and friendly which was the perfect combination for some dealing with and trying to communicate issues regarding anxiety / adhd / dyslexia / pain. Andrew obviously had lots of experience in assessing a range of both physical and learning disabilities and really understood how they could create barriers, especially in a compacting way. I really felt Andrew went above and beyond to really understand how my disabilities impact me and my studies and collaborated to suggest tools which could support my learning. Could recommend him enough. Also every single person I have interacted with at Broadbent & Co and both professional but also personable obv just a lovely culture from admin to receptionist to assseors.

I was really nervous about this assessment as, just like many hearing impaired people, I don't see my issues as "that big of a deal" Ben was really kind and talking to him felt like talking to a friend I'd known forever. He asked questions that I hadn't even considered. Although more difficulties were pulled out than I realised I had, he put it in a way that made me realise just how much harder I had to work to carry out activities that other people and how well I was doing without the support and that I did deserve support to make the playing field more level. He was so kind and caring I came out of the meeting on cloud nine. I am a mother and my child was off school, he accommodated me having my 11 year old in the meeting which I was nervous about. She sat quietly while we chatted and it all went swimmingly. This was a fabulous experience. Anyone who has to undergo the dsa assessment should know that with the care shown here it really isn't anything at all to worry about.

The process of booking the appointment was fairly simple, and the option to have my assessment over Microsoft Teams really put me at ease as travelling can be difficult for me. Nikki, my assessor was really warm and friendly, she made me feel comfortable and she was really knowledgeable!! I was really nervous about the assessment, but when it was over I actually felt really supported and my needs felt validated.

I was really intimidated when first starting this process and broadbent as a whole have been reassuring and super friendly. Jennifer the assessor was so lovely and welcoming. Took my assessment at a really nice pace, made it super casual and enjoyable. I have still not recieved any support with waiting times with DLA and processes unrelated to broadbent. However, if you are looking for somewhere welcoming and someone friendly, Jennifer and Broadbent are the way to go!

I was originally referred to Broadbent & Co a few years back and rated five stars. Most recently, I received a new diagnosis and was referred back. Again I’d rate five stars (more if I could).
The process was simple, quick and easy from start to finish. Their customer service is outstanding. My assessor was Jennifer Thorpe, who was very knowledgeable, friendly and makes you feel at instant ease. She was thorough and listened to every detail as well as check my previous assessment was still effective. She genuinely cared and went that extra mile to help me when I explained one of the company’s dealing with my tech issues were not forthcoming. I genuinely cannot criticise Broadbent, I really do not think there is anything to improve on. Thank you again for the fantastic service.

The company went through my report and outlined my difficulties on the needs Assesment report. The company also provided me with hardware and software tools to enable support for my university studies. My assessor was also communicating and asking me questions and she showed me the programs and I then made a decision on which software to use
