Buyer beware
Buyer beware. I’ve been furnishing a new home and have purchased 4 large area rugs from various vendors over the past several years. Two had to be returned. I don’t remember losing any money on the transactions and if I did it was minimal. I needed to return a rug to BuyAreaRugs.com. The website said “Easy Returns”. When I contacted the company I was told that it would cost me $750 to return it. The rug cost only slightly more than that. They need to make their return policy very clear. In no way would I consider this “Easy”. Very disappointed and would never recommend this online company.

In this case, the rug ordered was a large 8' x 12' area rug that required LTL freight delivery due to its size and weight. After receiving the rug, you contacted us because you felt the color did not coordinate well with your new couch and wished to return it.
The return costs quoted were not a penalty from BuyAreaRugs, but consisted of the actual freight return shipping charges and the manufacturer's restocking fee. Because oversized rugs must be shipped by freight carrier, return transportation costs can be substantial. We also offered to work with you on an exchange, which would have eliminated the manufacturer's restocking fee, leaving only the actual freight costs.
We understand that return expenses for large freight-shipped items can be frustrating, and we appreciate your feedback regarding how these costs are communicated. Our goal is always to be transparent about the costs involved while helping customers find a rug they love.
