It is not uncommon for first-time users to experience low pressure when using the Cafelat Robot. In most cases, this is related to the coffee grind rather than the machine itself. If the grind size is too coarse, the water will pass through too quickly, resulting in low or no pressure on the gauge and a “wash-out” rather than proper extraction.
While testing your Robot with just water, the pressure gauge reach around 8 bars of pressure. You can also check the pressure gauge using the basket plug included in the package.
As outlined in the user booklet, online instructions, FAQs, and blog resources, achieving the correct grind size is essential for proper performance. We would strongly recommend reviewing these guidelines and adjusting the grinder settings accordingly.
The stainless steel tamper is designed specifically for the Robot. It won’t match the basket diameter exactly which is intentional. If it were a perfect fit, it would create suction and disturb the coffee bed, which actually makes it unusable. With hand-polished parts there’s always a tolerance, and in this case that slight clearance is necessary.
The Robot Professional basket, which has an internal diameter of just under or around 58mm (slightly wider towards the top rim), is also deeper than most. The manufacturer, Cafelat Limited, has tested various designs extensively, and the current tamper size is what works best in practice.

After reviewing the photos you shared with us previously, the issue appears to be caused by the tube/metal sleeve being pinched during coffee extraction. This can happen if the arms are pressed while the tube is not in the correct upward position during extraction. We do highlight this in both the user guide and warning label, as well as in our support materials, to help prevent this type of damage.
As outlined in our warranty policy, the warranty of the tube and metal sleeves are not covered.

A Great Robot
I picked the Cafelat Robot because I am totally blind and I wanted to have control of every aspect of making an espresso.
I am new to espresso, having preferred filter coffee, but I decided to buy an espresso lever machine to avoid menus and touch screens.
I have been using the Robot for about two weeks now to pull one shot of espresso every day with mixed results, but it has been exciting trying to find a consistent espresso.
I have enjoyed most of the espresso that I have made bar my first due to incorrect grinding.
Using the robot enables me to try a number of approaches to making an espresso and if some turn out to be over or under extracted, then it is entirely my fault. I can honestly say that having used the Cafalat Robot for a short time has been an enjoyable experience for me. I am someone who simply wishes to have a decent espresso without too much hassle and without falling into the coffee cauldron!
The Robot has given me that control and opportunity to make espresso which so far has appealed to both my partner and I.
Thanks to Paul Pratt for making this uncomplicated yet brilliantly engineered machine.
