Poor company

Poor company. Reasonable resources, but it must do better to look after its teachers. I have been increasingly concerned by the general morale of its hard working teachers. I’d highly recommended using other platforms. Avoid Cambly!

Cambly are a dreadful company to work…

Cambly are a dreadful company to work for. No pay increase since the company started and for most people the pay is way below minimum wage. They promise many things to students that don’t match the tutors they employ, many of whom have zero teaching qualifications or experience. They make unnecessary changes constantly which confuse and annoy tutors and students alike and are rapidly developing a blame culture where everything is the tutor’s fault. Unless you’re truly desperate avoid this company like the plague.

A self-satisfied company deactivated my tutor’s account

This company is total BS! They deactivated the best tutor, claiming it was to improve customer satisfaction, but my satisfaction with the company has completely vanished. The tutor was incredibly experienced and knowledgeable, providing valuable insights in each session. It seems the company prioritizes its own interests over customer needs. If you want to practice speaking English, it's better to use apps that won't impact your morale.

BAD PAY

We have not been given a pay rise in years. If your attendance goes below 95% they threaten account banning. They do not care about their employees at all. You get better pay at McDonalds

I have worked for Cambly for 10 months

I have worked for Cambly for 10 months. Accumulated over 1000 students and averaged 10-12 classes a day 7 days a week. Priority hours were good at the start and I got a lot of reservations but the last month or so they have dwindled to almost zero. Today I was paid my salary and it was followed up with an email that they were deactivating my account. No reason given.

Horrible company

This absolutely terrible company pays well below most countries' minimum wage and hasn't made a single increase in years. It also makes a mockery of English teaching and to prospective students, I would say why sign up to learn English from people who are not qualified to do so? This company needs to be investigated.

This moneyhungry company doesn’t care…

This moneyhungry company doesn’t care about their users. They underpay their employees and meanwhile they keep making the lessons more expensive for the students. The students pay quite a bit of money to do the lessons but the teachers only get a unacceptably small percentage of this money. This selfish company is NOT part of the people who want to make this world a better place.

My teacher was banned from Cambly…

My teacher was banned from Cambly without notice. I didn’t even get to say goodbye and I’ve been with this teacher for over a year. This sucks! Cambly always raises their subscription fee and then bans your favourite teacher. Now i have to find another teacher but it won’t be with Cambly! Don’t waste your time signing up to learn here.

Despicable company

SLAVE WAGE
As many other tutors have already mentioned, the pay is absolutely abysmal. Cambly advertises that tutors can earn UP TO $10.20 USD per hour, but that is only if they are speaking with a student for the entire hour. Due to a decrease in student subscriptions, this is very unlikely, and most tutors are only earning around $5-$6 USD an hour. Even as a part-time job, this type of income is not sustainable or worth the effort.

EXPENSIVE SUBSCRIPTION
Despite the low wage tutors recieve, and overall poor quality of the platform of which Cambly invests no time or money, the cost of subscription continues to increase, making it an unaffordable and undesirable service for many students. Cambly pockets most of the money of its students, including a ridiculous "cancellation fee" which many students have complained about.

FALSE ADVERTISING
Cambly advertises itself to tutors as a casual conversation platform for native speakers, who just have to chat with students to improve their speaking skills.
Cambly advertises itself to students as a platform full of extremely qualified, well-educated professionals with an array of experiences to help them achieve their personaized English goals.
The expectations tutors and students have of using Cambly are grossly misaligned.

NO PROTECTION FOR TUTORS
Many tutors on Cambly, especially women, are subjected to inappropriate students who use the platform as a way to expose themselves on camera. Despite many complaints, Cambly does nothing besides advising us to block these type of students, although they can easily create a new account and do the same thing all over again.

UNETHICAL
The new Terms and Agreement that is mandatory for tutors is unethical at best and absolutely criminal at worst. They are using our classes for the development of AI which will inevitably leave many tutors without a job and income, which many rely on to provide for themselves and families.

Overall, Cambly is a despicable company that disregards its students and barely recognizes its tutors as people. For English teaching and learning, there are much better options for both tutors and students. Don't waste your time applying or subscribing.

This company is paying under the…

This company is paying under the minimum wage in many countries for example the UK. It should be forced to pay a decent wage. Recently they told me they were reporting my income to my country of residence - good - I pay tax anyways. The problem is they way they have done it takes my hourly rate below the legal minimum. We are defenceless against these people. They could be shut down if they don't report income for tax but who gives a monkeys if we are paid peanuts.

This company is the worst!

This company is the worst! It has a toxic work environment, unfair low pay, and engages in unfair business practices. The list goes on and on. If it were possible to give less than a one-star review, I would. This company takes at least two-thirds of what the student pays. The company has blocked teachers from certain states where the minimum wage is more than what they pay. As minimum wage has risen everywhere, Cambly refuses to give a raise. I've worked in some of the worst environments in the world, and Cambly is by far the worst. Additionally, I believe that Congress should investigate the company due to numerous negative reviews by tutors and students worldwide.
