Good campsite near La Palmyre and LunaPark
I’ve been camping in Charente Maritime regularly for many years, first staying on campsites in or near Arvert, though they’re quite far from the beaches and rather basic.
In 2008 I got chatting to a Frenchman who’d heard good things about Ami Ami at La Fouasse (Les Mathes). I tried it and liked it very much, but since being taken over by La Pinède it has lost all its character and does not seen to welcome tents anymore. I looked at the main Pinède site but it’s not to my taste at all, it’s like a French version of Butlin’s.
For two holidays I’ve stayed at La Palombière, just along the road. It’s a big shady site with excellent facilities, but without being regimented.
I first went in early June ’16 and thought the price (€16 per night) was fair. I stayed there in late June ’17 when the price was higher (€22). It is higher still in July and August (€30) so I will think carefully about dates for my next stay there.
