Requested 2 rentals on the site - neither are available. Paid the deposit for both and was refunded less than what I paid within a few hours. Why does a website have vehicles that are not available advertised? Or if they are unsure of the availability why take a deposit until both parties are agreed. Complete scam.

We booked our van in New Zealand through Campstar, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing.
Campstar arranged our rental with Lucky Rentals, and the vehicle we received was in very poor condition. It honestly felt like one of the worst cars imaginable — far below what we expected for a road trip of this kind. The condition of the van significantly impacted our trip and took away a lot of the enjoyment from our holiday.
We later noticed that many other reviews about Lucky Rentals reflect similar negative experiences, which makes this even more frustrating. We trusted Campstar to connect us with reliable partners, but in this case, that trust was not met.
We strongly suggest that Campstar reassesses the companies they work with and ensures that their partners meet a reasonable quality standard. This experience has left us very dissatisfied and negatively affected what should have been a memorable trip.
Overall, we cannot recommend this booking experience.

When I asked for further information it was provided.
When I requested changes they were accommodated.

used several times before -- just got to be careful about the date glitch when booking! Whatever dates you choose, it will automatically populate the preceding dates. You have to keep changing the dates to make it correct

Extremely frustrating experience with Campstar. My original booking was transferred to a new supplier without warning, leaving me no real choice of vehicle. The alternative required multiple emails back-and-forth to clarify bedding, extras, and pricing. The deposit unexpectedly increased from £1,500 to £2,000. No compensation or assistance (like airport transfer) was offered. Not reliable – would not recommend.
Update 23/3/3026:
One of the main issues was that the only available option was a manual transmission vehicle, which is far from ideal in a country where driving is on the left-hand side. It is hard to understand how a company like Campstar could not offer any automatic alternative under these circumstances, especially when this was part of our original preference.
