My female (neutered) 8 year old Golden Retriever has been on Canagan for several years. After reading some of these reviews I believe Canagan has been causing her problems starting this year. She needs to eat grass at all hours of the day and night, and she has been sick on several occasions. Her coat is not as beautiful as it was or it should be. Her poo had become very dark, it is now back to normal now she is no longer on Canagan. The remaining half of a 12kg bag was dumped at the local tip, I am not risking my dog's health.
CANAGAN STOP ADVERTISING THAT YOUR FOOD IS BRITISH....IN VERY SMALL LETTERS ON THE BACK, UNDER THE BEST BEFORE DATE IT CLEARLY STATES 'MADE IN GERMANY'.
I will be contacting the website
All about dog food.co.uk to make sure that this is changed.

I am not interested in 'reaching out' to you as you are NOT listening to your customers. We have had 8 Golden Retrievers over the past 40 years and we know what food suits and what doesn't.

Have been feeding my cat canagan for around 6 years and was always really happy, shiny coat and she was in good health, but the last batch of food I got in September was a problem, she started throwing up daily and she never throws up. The only thing that had changed was a new order, so stopped feeding her the canagan wet food and the vomiting stopped. After a few days tried the wet food again and same results so have now stopped feeding her canagan wet and have her on another brand and no more vomiting. Not sure what changed, but something has. Such a shame as she loved it, and been on it for years, but will no longer be feeding her the wet food from canagan

Our cats try to bury it when I give them the chicken pouch. And I can't say nothing - when its falling out to the bowl it looks like a flat sh.., I mean a flat piece of.. and there are white pieces of cartilage in it. For 2 eur per pack. Beuh.

The new Petite range is a hit with my little dog. I think it smells very good, and it's easy to mix with his dry food. It's nice to add some variety to his meals with the different flavours available.

Fabulous good quality food and fantastic customer service. I’ve been buying the Cat food for the last 6 months and needed to contact customer services today who were excellent. Highly recommend the food, quality and the customer service.

for context i have a 18 month doberman who gets walked 2 hours if not more a day and usually sleeps all night and all through the morning as well as several naps during the day. but i put my dog on canagan when he was much younger and it was fine. as soon as he started getting into his growing stages the food was too rich and contained too much protein it gave my dog so much energy he wouldn’t sleep as well as very smelly bowel movements. i have changed foods for him and have much better results for all the problems previously facing with canagan however in an emergency this week we had to give him 2 days of canagan once again as we had no other food as we had a delivery delay. safe to say i will never use canagan again even in an emergency. my dog has kept me up till 5am with so much energy even after his normal daily amount of walks. he has had incredibly bad smelly poo and farts again. we were told by our local pet store that they had changed their recipe recently and no longer recommend it to their customers. i no longer trust this food

We've used Canagan Highland feast for our 5 year old lab for the last few years. Several months ago our poor lab started having stomach difficulties, incredibly foul smelling wind, inconsistent poo. Off to the vet who asked if we changed food (answer No) and we started systematically removing treats and monitoring diet. No change, so we had stool samples tested. Just by chance, my wife had a look at reviews on Canagan website (and then Trustpilot) and low and behold, Canagan moved their production to another factory with a different process. Per their customer services, the ingredients are the same, but the process delivers a richer pellet which might cause in their words result in 'very rare' issues. Guess what, a quick look at the website reviews, Trustpilot, pet forums will show it’s a lot less rare than they make out. Not only that, they've known about the problems pets have been having for months and actively chosen not to inform their customers they made a material change to the production process. There are not banners or notes on website or packaging so literally no active or passive notification of the changes. They are resisting any of the cost we incurred with vets and I've had a boiler plate response from Customer Services with a lovely signature quoting their sustainability credentials. But they've made a change, actively chosen not to publicise the change, had numerous complaints (which are all incredibly similar) articulating the pain and discomfort in our pets .... and they've still actively chosen not to do anything about it. I am sure there are lots of pets that are still fine, but the fact Canagan have actively chosen NOT to do the right thing is a reflection of the company management and ethics and I would not trust them to feed our pets.
Our dog is now eating Orijen and back to normal within a week. Hopefully no long term damage but there are months of suffering that could have been avoided with a bit of proactive action from Canagan.
Customer service is very responsive on review sites, but beyond a boiler plate response from their customer service team when you write to them, they actually don’t engage in a meaningful way and they certainly are not actively working to resolve the problem. I am now investigating complaints to APHA, FSA and Trading Standards.

I have been giving my dog Canagan for years, and my dog loves it, however since they have moved manufacturing to Germany, my dog has become unwell, loose stools, gurgling tummy and feeling low. Canagan has mentioned the kibble is denser, but the ingredients haven't changed and that they moved to Germany to make it "fresher", which is rubbish. I am now having to change to a different brand and this episode has cost me a lot in vets fees. I noticed other people having the same issues.
Edit, What a pointless reply, you are ignoring the fact that there are lots of unhappy owners now, with unwell pets.

Downright misleading!
The Canagan packaging on the front says "Made with Natural Produce Fresh from the British Countryside". But when you read small black type on the back is says "Made in Germany". How fresh can it be?
Makes my doggies stool all runny. Won't ever buy again.

I saw the poor reviews and still decided to try the product. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The ingredients really look brilliant but my dog’s poop started coming out black and smelt bad, her energy reduced and she became reluctant to continue eating the canagan. I’ve taken her off and poop immediately turned to a normal colour without smell and back to eating her food and having energy. As Canagan might state that it is due to a change in diet I can assure that it is not as I have changed the dogs diet in the past and this was distinctly different/worse.

What’s gone wrong canagan after 10 years of feeding my 4 dogs, age range 12- 3 years and no problems suddenly really strong smell omitting from them and their stools have gone very soft, gurgling stomachs and bad breath, I have for the last two months been to the vets bought prebiotics but in a light bulb moment realised it was their food the kibble ( small breed wild game) has changed shape and colour, o have taken them off of it and all the above problems have disappeared, so sad you’re quality has changed most probably another bottom line issue.

I moved my dog from a mid-range pet food to Canagan recently, as my dog was leaving his dry food for hours before choosing to eat it. I now feed my dog Canagan free range chicken (all breed) and the difference is amazing. He hoovers it up immediately and his stool is much more solid. Great product, would definitely recommend trying it :)

Fed Canagan for years with my dogs salmon flavour not one problem it actually helped one of my dogs skin issues but since production has changed to Germany the food has completely changed and making my dogs ill skin issues back, the itching was terrible, coughing, sickness and upset stomach.
Contacted customer services about all the issues i have been having and tbh they weren’t helpful basically just told me the food was the same as before which isnt true, the size of the kibble changed in size constantly, i actually got mould in the wet food.
Changed foods now.

Have used Canagan for 4 years. Recently bought a bag of Highland Feast instead of the usual Lamb variety. Within 24 hours our poor dog had vomiting and diarrhoea (which soon turned to blood and mucus) The emergency vet asked if we’d changed food, which we hadn’t even considered but it turns out this product was made in Germany rather than UK as before. My contact with Canagan has resulted in ‘no problems with the product’ ‘no-one else has complained’ and that this food is made in Germany for better freshness (it has an 18 month use-by date!!) We are €300 out of pocket on vet fees and left with an almost full bag of food (€50) to get rid of. Have changed to Orijen Regional Red which our dog loves. Do. Not. Buy !!!

I cant give a good or bad review, because my dog has always been happy and fine with dry food products, free range chicken and country game. The last few months she became having problems with stomach, guts and skin...tried everything to find out the cause, except changing her daily food...been giving it to her for years, so never doubted about it. Now reading the latest reviews about the new recepture of Canagan and lots of dogs with same symptoms, I am afraid to feed it to her again. At the moment she gets prescribed food by the veterinarian and she is fine for the first time in a long time. Can't be sure, because it's hard to test this....but will try a different brand for a while due to previous reviews....sorry!

I really wish I could put 0 stars
I also wish I would of checked for reviews sooner
I have fed this food to one of my dogs for several years, without any problems. The end December last year my dog started to have bad breath and his poo smelled foul. (I had noticed that the food felt greasy and the colour was different. My sister contacted the company because she also used canagan, they told her the recipe was the same but fresher. They also told her no one else had contacted them about the food.)
It continued to get worse until he was showing signs of discomfort. I have had him back and forwards to the vets. Test after test coming back clear, in total the vet bill reached over £1.500. The vet said the only option left was a camera into the stomach and biopsy taken costing £7000. The vet said to add prebiotic to his food, 20 days later no change. So I changed his food 10 days on the foul smell is gone. His poo no longer smells foul, his discomfort is reduced 90%.
I am glad I changed his food and would not recommend this food

My Maine Coon loves Canagan, it gives me peace of mind she's getting the best food and excellent nutrition. I have been giving her the chicken mixed with the turkey dental.

Symply/Canagan gives very good customer service. The courier, DPD, unfortunately has some rather poor drivers among the many good ones. Tell Symply/Canagan of delivery problems if you don't get much sense out of DPD and they'll sort it out.

I've been buying Canagans for years and have always recommended to friends because my dogs have loved it and thrived on it ... until the lost couple of months. All new bags of Canagans are darker, greasier and have an unusual strong odour. All three of my dogs have been suffering with unusually loose and smelly poos and dreadful gas - one really quite badly. Having read other reviews I see that the manufacture of the food, previously in the UK, is now being produced in Germany. I did contact Canagan's by phone and by email. The gentleman on the phone sounded surprised and said he had not had any other complaints, which I find highly unlikely, and the reply to my email suggested I was over-feeding my dogs! I would suggest that Canagan contact their manufacturers in Germany and get to the bottom of the issue instead passing the blame on to customers. Being told that the food is now 'fresher' as its being produced in smaller batches sounds like a load of old twaddle!
