Restaurant at Fitzrovia
At first, the restaurant felt welcoming despite being busy during the lunch rush. I ordered the veggie fry, which according to the menu should have included roasted mushrooms. When I pointed out the missing item, the waiter dismissed my concern. I asked to see the menu again, and although he said he would bring it, he never returned. Even after the lunch period ended, service was noticeably absent in our section of the restaurant.
The food itself was disappointing. Everything was piled on top of each other, making the presentation unappealing, and the flavors didn’t come together well.
When it came time to pay, the table instructions directed us to use an online app. What the restaurant failed to disclose is that using the app incurs a small fee—something I found misleading. To make matters worse, the app refused to process the payment. When I asked for assistance, a woman I assumed to be the manager (not in uniform like the staff) insisted we pay through the app, still without mentioning the fee. I explained politely that the app wasn’t working and requested a card reader instead.
My friend was frustrated and refused to pay the 12.5% service charge, noting that we’ve had far better service at small breakfast cafés. I paid the service charge not wanting to argue. Both of our platters were left unfinished, which speaks volumes about the quality of the food.
Overall, I rated the restaurant 3 stars—not because of the food, but because of the lack of service and poor customer care.
