Unhappy

After purchasing the silver plan I found out I would be out of work for 2 to 3 months. I called back to speak with my representative with in 48 hours to cancel my warranty until I was back to work. It seems no one wants to talk with me or send me verification of my cancelation request.
My representative was very helpful at the beginning of my call to purchase...but now I'm being ghosted!
Not really happy with how I am being treated ...therefore I will get ahold of the BBB.

Worst Experience Ever

This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a sales representative. He was rude, loud, pushy, arrogant, talked over me so I couldn’t say anything. I was on the fence as to which company to use, but after that call, it was an easy decision. I wouldn’t have a company anywhere near my car if they’re hiring people like that.

Sold 48/125k, delivered 48/80k

Bought a 48mo/60k power train warranty from them that expires at 186k. Front driveshaft failed. They refused to pay because it was not a shaft that is inside a housing. Crooked, but in the fine print. Bought another warranty for my other vehicle with a 48mo/125k warranty that should expire at about 169k. They are claiming that it expired when my odometer reaches 125k. That would be 48/80. Clearly fraud.

Not big hype or pressure

Not big hype or pressure. No lies or knocking competitors. Honest, frank and professional. Hung in while I did more research and was happy to join into their protection. Simple and easy and a bit more expensive than other companies, but more covered (like emissions components....unlike other places) and the friendliness of their staff is incredible. Money is not always an end all for selection. Thanks for sticking with me and making my life more relaxed and comfortable with the coverage.

I'm retired and relaxed

I'm retired and needed that cushion. When I called about extended warranty the agent was very helpful and did not pressure me. Gave me the info I needed and we hung up. Checked on the company and had very good reviews. Called back and took out the warranty. Relaxed at this time.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST RIP OFF I'VE EVER SEEN.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST RIP OFF I'VE EVER SEEN. I BOUGHT THE POWER TRAIN PLUS WHICH COST ALMOST $4,000 DOLLARS. I'VE HAD IT 2 YEARS AND USED IT TWICE. NEITHER TIME DID IT HARDLY PAY FOR ANY OF WHAT WAS DONE. I JUST HAD OVER $1400 WORTH OF WORK DONE AND THEY ONLY PAID $148. THEY WANTED ME TO GET A CHINA REBUILT STARTER FOR MY VAN FROM THEM. I'M SORRY WHEN IT COMES TO MY VAN I DO MAINTAIN IT AND IT ISN'T GOING TO BE WITH CHINA REFURBISHED CRAP. WHEN I BOUGHT MY VAN IT HAD A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF ORIGINAL WARRANTY LEFT ON IT AND I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND IT COST 1/2 OF WHAT THIS PIECE OF CRAP WARRATY COST AND WHEN I USED IT I PAID MY $100 DOLLAR DEDUCTIBLE AND THE WARRANTY COVERED THE REST. SHOP AROUND PEOPLE BEFORE CONSIDERING THIS GARBAGE COVERAGE.

They just want your money!!

I was looking for an extended Warrenty. Carchex hounded me calling several times a day until I signed up with them cause of the reviews. After 9 months I got a new job and wasn’t traveling as much so I called in to cancel my policy back in November. The rep stated he was canceling it and had to send me a form to fill out. The form never came. I called back again in December but no one answered and it said to leave a message and they would get back with me. Still haven’t heard back so called back in today and waited to talk to someone for over 2 hrs. Finally called in and said I wanted to talk to a customer service rep. Got to a rep in 3 minutes then he transferred me to the disconnect team which never picked up. When I trued you call back in to customer service they had closed for the day. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CARCHEX!!

The start process / filing a Cliam

The start process was great , until I had to call a couple time to get my declaration page and my warranty coverage. Well my truck broke down and I had to put my warranty company to the test. They failed horribly customer service is the worst, I understand there short staff and they have to have people in place but the customer is horrible and not helpful at all , I had to call them 10 times and still couldn’t get what I needed. Very unhappy with there service and I will be canceling

Buyer beware - Carchex/American Autoshield scam

I should've done more real research on this company prior to getting their warranty. Reading others complaints here about adjusters requesting tear downs of engines would've been a major red flag for me before purchasing this crap. Their customer service is designed to frustrate the customers and service centers with EXTREMELY long wait times, disconnections with no-call back when you do get someone on the line, etc. Rude and unprofessional help when I dealt with their escalation team. Good luck getting a full name of the person you get on the phone. Several auto repair centers in my area roll their eyes when you tell them you have a Carchex/American Autoshield warranty because of the back and forth that always seems to happen when customers file claims with them. When I filed my one and only claim after having the warranty about 9 months, they sent an adjuster to check out my vehicle and the adjuster determined the mechanical failure in the engine was due to "carbon buildup" and denied the claim. The service center doing the repairs disputed the adjuster's claim. When asked if a second adjuster could be sent out to a second opinion I was told the denying of the claim was final and no other options were offered. Do yourself a favor and don't do business with this company. Service centers don't want to be bothered with doing business with them for several reasons so that's all you should need to know about them. They should have a no-star rating. From customers and service centers who have to deal with them.

After reading a ton of other reviews from customers on this site, how does this company continue to get away with ripping hard working folks off by giving pro-rated refunds on this sham warranty if they've never submitted a claim? Why isn't all of the money returned? Your coverage provided nothing but frustration to your customers and the service centers who call your support line and are on hold for long periods of time and no one ever gets back to them. It's a good thing service centers don't charge the customer for time wasted in addition to the car repairs!! I feel like an idiot for getting this warranty and I wouldn't recommend it to an enemy. Carchex should be investigated for such shady practices. A lot of these complaints posted here sound too much alike!!
*****************************
Updated after Carchex replied online even though I am still waiting for someone to reply to the six emails I've sent about this issue and 10 or so phone calls I've made. Interesting that your reply faster to a review someone submits online opposed to responding the customer directly. Five star customer service!!!! I guess you can respond here when you send my refund. You're doing any and everything not to honor your warranty. Service centers in the Philadelphia area are leary to do business with you but I guess that's my fault too. Send my refund and consider our business done.
***************************************************
So I called your customer service line again and only had to wait 25 minutes before I got a live person to cancel this sham warranty. In 2022 you are asking your customer to write a letter for a cancellation? So this isn't something that can be addressed online even though the account was created online? More foolishness in place to frustrate your customers and punish customers who no longer want to do business with you. Per your instructions:

Please write a letter including all of the requested information below and mail to:

American Authoshield's reputation in the service centers I've dealt with in my area isn't good at all. I was warned that Carchex/American Authoshield would use anything I reported or said to them about this claim against me. I was 15 minutes from my home returning from a road trip. Why wouldn't drive the car home? It wasn't overheating I had a "service stabilitrak" message on the interior display. The service center is 3 miles from my home. Why would I not drive a vehicle in for service that only has a warning message?

Thank you for your review. We will address your concerns in this review and explain why your engine claim was properly denied for your 2007 Cadillac Escalade.

According to your claim, your repair called 1/3/2022 to start a claim for an engine repair. The repair shop reported a CEL (Check Engine light) and the engine reportedly was “shaking.”

Based on records provided by the contract administrator, a 3rd party inspection was completed to document the failures to your engine. The reported documented the failure with a determination that the cause of failure was carbon build up from long term oil consumption causing the valve on cylinder stick and break. The claim was denied under the listed exclusions of your contract in Section 7, letter P which excludes repairs “Resulting from overheat, engine sludge, CARBON….or lack of proper and necessary amounts of coolant, fuel, fluids, or lubricants.”

The photos provided by the inspection documented multiple photos showing burnt oil on multiple cylinder heads including heavy burnt oil on cylinder 8. Additional photos showed the #8 valve removed with a chunk missing. Black residue could be seen in the valve opening, around the edges of the valve and in the chamber the valve sits consistent with an engine consumption issue causing carbon build up.

Your maintenance records provided show repair visits on 10/1/2021 at 172,274 miles on the odometer and 11/23/2021 at 173,680 miles. The 10/1/2021 record showed the vehicle was brought in for an oil change with the shop reporting there was NO oil on the dipstick upon arrival. The 11/23/2021 record reporting a check engine light with the #8 cylinder dumping oil on the spark plug and causing a misfire.

An email sent by you to CARCHEX noted the check engine light came on 11/20/2021 when you were driving from Penn State football game to your home in Philadelphia. There were no records of the vehicle being towed in to avoid additional consequential damage to the vehicle as the contract requires. Additionally, you advised the contract administrator the vehicle was driven into the repair shop completing your repairs.

The contract requires you to protect the vehicle when an issue occurs and provides towing as part of the Roadside Assistance included in your coverage.

After careful review, your claim was denied appropriately per the terms of your contract. We will have a CARCHEX Manager reach out to you to discuss your request to cancel and demand for a full refund. Per the terms of your contract, all refunds are pro-rated based on time and miles you have paid for but not used.

Best,

CARCHEX Management Team

I could go into a long explanation of…

I could go into a long explanation of how my car was in the shop for seven days before they refused to repair sn air condition They send out an administrator who comes out to look at the car and he said one thing to our long standing mechanic and then when his findings were sent back to Carchex they completely changed it.
A word of warning if you have an old car that you think this insurance is going to help you in the event something goes wrong with your car, well, that is completely the wrong picture. This company said to me since we had a 2004 Jetta with 142,000 miles that everything that we requested they look at and determine it’s repair. The report then said due to do the age of the car it was normal wear and tear so they could not replace anything even though an alternator and an air conditioner compressor was listed as the options they would pay in repair. If you go by their standards in an older car everything that eventually goes wrong with it you can somehow blame on wear and tear a gasket that’s faulty etc. etc. In my opinion put the payment in a bank account that you would pay them from each month and if something goes wrong with your car at least you’ll have some of the money towards your repair. I’m stuck with $500 worth of repair that basically covered all of the initial work that they required in order for them to pay for the actual repairs so another words I paid for all the diagnostics to tell them what the noise was, why the air condition wasn’t working etc. and now they’re paying nothing if I could give them a zero rating I would.

Also, don’t expect their customer service to be of any help. Two different customer service representatives hung up the phone on me and then would not answer when I called back. If all of the above had not happened with the actual repairs once I experienced that negative customer service replies I would’ve wanted out regardless.

Suggestion: do you want to keep customers revamp your customer service and stop offering a warranty for an older car that you have no intention of ever paying for any repairs on it whatsoever.

I did send an email to the administration to see if they could respond before I did this review and they didn’t waste their time answering me. Again stay away

SCAM! BEWARE

SCAM, SCAM SCAM!!!! BEWARE!!!! THEY SCREWED ME ROYAL ON REPAIRS THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED BY THE MECHANIC. Customer service is audibly vocally arguing with the repair facility! No one will tell you that you'll have to foot more than half of the auto repair bill. THE COMPANY ALSO GOES BY THE NAME OF "CAR CHECX" --- WATCH OUT FOR THIS!!!!

TERRIBLE Cust Service unless you are purchasing a plan from them.

Have been with Carchex for 2 months now. First of all, the book they send you of what they DO NOT cover is huge. I purchased the Silver plan. About a little over a month My alternator went out which was aprox 600.00. Carchex initially wanted to pay about half of that or less. They DO NOT COVER the fee to look over the vehicle for problems. I heard the Adjuster " Tony " on the phone with my repair guy and he was BEYOND rude. Very abrasive guy this was. My mechanic informed me that they were partnered up with Carchex and had to complain through Corperate to get my price down to which they were successful. So Fed up with Carchex only after my first repair I made the decision to cancel. I have been on the phone over 2 hours now, not talking to anyone that could help me cancel. This is NOT the same people that sold me the contract in the first place........Once they get your direct deposit payment you are hooked. Buyers beware !

great fast quote

I bought a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. up until 2020 the newest vehicle I've ever owned was a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee those vehicles of yester year are easy to work on and cheaper to pay for. but the cost of parts and repairs have gone up significantly with vehicles in the past 2 decades and even though I like to perform my own mechanical services on my vehicles I know my limits. I Went with a power train warranty from Carchex simple and quick process. I have not had to use it yet "knock on wood" but, its peace of mine and its a small percentage of what you could end up paying out of pocket on your own should something go wrong.

1st claim denied warranty through Carchex..

1st claim warranty through Carchex...My car was diagnosed with a bad starter from triple A when my car wouldn't start. They first charged the battery, a couple of times, even tried replacing the battery, but still dead, only heard a click. Service guy said it was the starter, no doubt. I had to have them tow my car to a service repair shop. The repair shop took two days to look at it, and they said they saw battery acid had leaked on the starter, however, that was after the fact. They spoke to American Shield, and America Shield denied the claim, saying that a non covered part, caused the covered part, (the starter) damage. I spoke to the repair shop and they said sometimes when charging a battery too many times it can cause damage to the cell and the battery can sometimes leak acid. I called American Shield and told them what the repair guy said, and he was willing to talk with them. I also told them about triple A saying it was the starter, and there was no evidence of any acid on the starter when they first looked at the car. They were sure it was the starter, and would be willing to write a statement. American Shield said the case was closed and would not be reopened. Even though I should be covered since it was the starter, they would not look into it. They didn't even send a service man from their company to look at the damage, to see what they thought. I spoke to someone, Pia was her name in the escalation department. She was rude and wouldn't budge, she didn't try to help in anyway. So now I am going to have to take this to small claims court. i will not just sit back and have them rip me off. I paid every month on time for this warranty, now they are trying to sleaze their way out of paying for a legit part that should have been covered.....horrible warranty....

My experience with Carchex

Bought a 2012 Traverse, was great at first, but I figured I should piece of mind with a warranty. The car was a rebuilt title so I could only get a power train warranty, which is pretty significant cost wise if you have to pay for it yourself. Anyways long story short, odd things kept happening which made me trade in the traverse. I was in the early refund time of the contract, and was refunded everything. Was to easy, and Jason was very helpful in walking me thru the process. I recommend this company.
Herbert B. Miami Fl
P.S. don’t buy a used traverse!!!!!
