£86 customs charge

I ordered a Thule roof rack from CarRacks.co.uk for £326, believing I was purchasing from a UK-based website.

After placing the order, I received an email advising that the item was being shipped from Ireland and that I might be liable for customs/import charges. I have now been asked to pay £86.21 in additional charges.

The main issue for me is that I wasn’t aware when placing the order that the item was being dispatched from Ireland or that I could be liable for an additional £86.21. If I had known this at the time of purchase, I would not have gone ahead with my order.

Great price, well constructed and quick delivery.

UK website, .co.uk, in £ sterling, London contact at footer of website, ships from Ireland leading to import customs charges. Wasting everyone's time and energy. Shambles, an absolute shitshow of a company.

Great roof bars at a good price.
Delivery not the fastest, but not unreasonable. Fit my car perfectly and have been used regularly for my kayak. Would recommend and eould buy from again without hessitation, as long as you dont need next day delivery.

I don’t always leave reviews but felt the need to after reading a few negative comments. Our experience has been the complete opposite. Bars and feet were delivered within 5 days. The quality of the bars & feet and value both exceptional. The fitting instructions were easy to follow, so much so my young children helped in the process! Our total order value was below the tax limit so this may have helped with the delivery. My top tip would be not to leave ordering to the last minute - give yourselves 2-3weeks in case of any delays at customs.

Roof bars for my car. Excellent quality, very easy fit if you follow the instructions (which are clear to read). Only downside is these particular racks don't have a quick remove option, but I figure that's why they are so steardy. I got the heavier duty ones but I probably didn't need to.
Good delivery time scale, the tracker was hit n miss so was worrying, but delivery was prompt.

Don't order from this company. Unplaced an order stating 2 to 3 days delivery . Hadn't heard anything so emailed them. They said they don't have the item in stock and can't tell me when they will be in stock so gave me a refund. Doesnt help when you need the roof bars for a roof tent for a family holiday. Ordered some Thule ones from somewhere else.

Quick delivery, good reasonably priced and the fact that I put my registration number and it bought up the right roof racks for my car. Easy to fit and yes I’ve put stuff on them and they held strong. Just what I needed. Instructions were clear and easy to follow .

They are not based in the UK .
Do not buy from them , unless you want an unexpected customs charge for your order to be released.
Using a .co.uk website is a total scam and contravenes UK law

Easy enough to order, roof bars fitted ok and decent price, happy days.

Buyer beware. They are NOT a UK based business and you WILL be hit with customs, handling and other fees if you order high value products from them outside of Ireland.

Otherwise, yes, postage was prompt and the product is as advertised.

Do not use this company if you are UK based. This company uses a .co.uk domain and has a UK address and says VAT is included. However, if you order from them. It is shipped from Ireland and you will have a customs bill for unpaid VAT!!!!! This is a scam. Do not use!

What this company does should be against the law. They pretend to be UK based and then ship your purchase from Ireland, meaning you have to pay VAT and fees before delivery. I had to pay £80 on a £300 roof rack, none of this was made clear at time of purchase.

Very disappointed – unexpected £68.67 customs charges

I am very disappointed with this company.

My 17-year-old son placed an order with CarRacks, and we were subsequently charged £68.67 in customs fees (£9.14 duty and £47.53 VAT and £12.00 handling fee).

It was not made clear at checkout that significant import charges could be applied.

I have paid the fees to avoid further complications after reading other customers’ negative experiences with customer support.

This was an unexpected additional cost for a purchase made by my son, which we were required to cover.

UK customers should be aware of all potential import fees before ordering, as the final cost may be significantly higher than advertised.

Based on this experience, I would not recommend ordering from the UK.

Wished I’d seen reviews first. As many others experienced - thought was buying from UK based company only to get notification from Parceforce on import duties to be paid (only after items had been despatched). No mention of these charges at any point during sale that I could see.

easy to order, fast delivery items fits well

Ordered some racks. They came the next day and were perfect. Really impressed with the efficiency. Will order from here again.
