Horrible Experience with Cedar Cleaners

I hired Cedar Cleaners LLC (owned by Kimberly Dunahoo, also known as Kim or Kimber) to clean my short-term vacation rental farmhouse in Manchester, Iowa in spring 2024. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.

On June 12, 2024, Upon being notified by my security system that our front doors were open, I reviewed exterior security camera footage and discovered the front door had been left open and unlocked after she left the property. I had to call her and ask her to return to secure the home.

On June 20, 2024, exterior and basement security camera footage (the basement camera is in a non-guest-accessible maintenance area) showed dirt being swept underneath cabinets instead of removed. I also documented dirty towels and linens being placed in the dryer without being washed and later removed for reuse. Photos and video showed areas of the home still uncleaned after the visit. We had to hire a new cleaner to do a deep clean of the home who verified all this. During this time, a pillow was also placed into the washing machine with the protector still on, which caused the washer to become severely unbalanced and nearly damaged the machine.

I terminated services by email on June 28, 2024. After that, communication became hostile and I received messages that included harassment and threats directed toward me, my family, and my property, including statements about taking action against me for leaving reviews. I retained screenshots of these communications and filed police reports with the Delaware County Sheriff.

I have continued to receive threatening communications related to these reviews. In June 2025, a renter accidentally contacted this cleaner while trying to reach our business and later informed me that the cleaner spoke negatively about my business during that call. She later texted me referencing that interaction.

I paid the final invoice within 24 hours of terminating services to end communication and avoid further conflict.

I would not hire Cedar Cleaners again and recommend documenting expectations, verifying insurance coverage with agents, and inspecting completed work when hiring a cleaning service. I am sharing this so others can avoid a similar experience.
