Costs not transparent

I booked a boiler service. The engineer came and said a part needed replacing and he would do the service then, which was fine. However, I then found that I had been charged £114 for that 15 minute visit to be told he couldn't do the job. When I complained, they did reduce the fee by 50% but only because I complained.

I had no issue with the engineer or his work but definitely not happy with the lack of transparency around the costs. There was no indication I would be charged if the job couldn't be done at the time - even if I then had the job done later. The reasonable quote for the boiler service would have been double the price without the 50% refund and therefore not so reasonable. It just felt like a bit of a con and I won't be using them again.

Outstanding service!!

Had a new boiler installed by CH Westend after my Worcester Greenstar finally gave up (after 15 years mind you)

I received a very reasonable quote for a new Worcester, and an install booked 2 days later. The engineer they sent was incredible. He encountered multiple issues due to poor access (old boiler had been boxed in due to refurb) but worked tirelessly to get the job done, staying past 10pm the next day so as not to leave my tenants without hot water.

Never in my life have I encountered a tradesperson willing to go the extra mile in the way he did. Not that I would expect that, but clearly this company hires people with a super strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.

5 stars all the way. Would definitely recommend!

Extremely poor installation, workmanship, very expensive

This company installed a boiler for a frail elderly lady in Ealing London.
The quote they gave her was vastly overpriced, they charged her for 3 days labour for a 1 day job.
There excuse for this was ‘well she could have got other quotes’
The workmanship was appalling, they have returned on a number of occasions to try and rectify it but still significant issues.
Gas safe register have inspected and has picked up on a number of areas that DO NOT MEET CURRENT STANDARDS.
Unfortunately Mr Hackett has refused to speak to me directly or meet at the property to answer any questions.
Extremely poor customer service, workmanship and extremely expensive for the standard of work.
PLEASE DO WHAT MR HACKETT ADVISES AND GET OTHER QUOTES!!!!!

Thank you for your reply which isn’t particularly honest or accurate. You took 3 days to do a 1 day job mainly travelling to and from the property. Gas safe as you know picked up a number of points that weren’t up to current standards. Your initial installation was laughable! You have not gone back to rectify the faults that gas safe found as the elderly lady doesn’t want you near her property!

To be accurate we never quoted for, worked for, met, Chloe Willis on this or any other works.
We did quote and install a boiler for an elderly lady in Ealing in February 2023.
The quoted works took 3 days from start to finish.
We returned once after a post inspection to alter some pipework that was agreed with our custormer.
Gas safe where asked to inspect and found the installation to be safe leaving it as they found it working.
Yes we do advise all custormers to get more than one quote in order to compare.

Be very very careful of this company

Be very very careful of this company. They will charge you £100+ for pricing-up work and do not deduct it from your invoice. They have absolutely no loyalty whatsoever to long term customers who remember when they used to behave far more authentically, let alone any loyalty to new customers. They will charge you left, right & centre - charging your credit/debit card without permission - and they will not give two hoots whether your heating boiler is working hundreds & hundreds & hundreds of pounds later. Be very very careful of this lot.

PS: having seen the pretty garbled response below I would just like to add that the situation described below categorically does not relate to me. Although it would seem that whoever this mysterious customer is, they clearly have a problem with this lot too. No big surprise there. What you might call two bad reviews for the price of one ... straight from the horse’s mouth! You just couldn’t make it up.

To be clear, my name is not Pateman and that is not my address. In fact, maybe I’ll write to the Patemans to notify them of your wild allegations. Hopefully they’ll report this lot to the appropriate authorities. Somebody should, especially given their complete disregard for customer care as clearly illustrated by their semi-thuggish response below.

Genuinely someone we worked for but not her real name- sour grapes reveiw realy.
You were never charged anything that you were not already made aware of and agreed to in advance, in fact your neigbour covered the cost not you. Your gripe is you thought that because we were carrying out other works we would replace your defective boiler pump at no labour cost. We told you we wasn't prepared to do this and gave you a quote for this work. More accurate?

Avoid CH Westend

CH Westend plumbing seem determined to rip us off, and provide terrible customer service in the process. What started as a routine boiler check escalated into four visits and over GBP 800 in spend, largely due to poor practice on their side.

The key issues we faced were:

1) They did not pass on notes from one plumber to the next, so plumbers would arrive without the right parts or expertise, preventing them from doing the job, but resulting in extra charges to us
2) Charging GBP 150 to remove a tile off a wall with a palette knife
3) Very slow to respond to emails, especially when we were asking what we were being charged for

It seems the plumbing team are being let down by the office support, and they would do well to coordinate their activities more competently.

We certainly will not be turning to them again.

Excellent

I had a a great experience with CH westend. They came twice to assess the property and gave me two options on different types of boilers at different price points. They installed and carried out the work very neatly and with little disruptions. When i called them afterwards about a small issue they came immediately to fix it. Price was good and communication was excellent. Will use them again.

An absolute con !

An absolute con !!

I had a ceiling leak and I called them as they were local.

Plumber cane stayed 30 min and done nothing !!
Only to then tell me that he can’t do anything as he needs a ladder. And I would have to reschedule. Ranged the office only to be told that I would have to pay for the 1 hour plus vat and reschedule .
They charged me £150 for nothing !!
Because the plumber did have a ladder ??? Shouldn’t a plumber have a ladder ???

Nice people but not competent

Nice people but not competent. Do not give them your bank details. They will charge you for incomplete work, take money from your account whether you are happy or not and send you an invoice 5 days later. Use Local Heroes recommended by British Gas. Local Heroes give you one year warranty and you pay if you are satisfied with their work.

Never ever deal with ch-westend!

We bought a new boiler 5.5 years ago with installation and support from CH-westend. The boiler has broken a few times already but the last accident was the worst. I called them and booked the engineer to repair the boiler, as it was making a weird noise like it is going to blow up. The engineer came, did something and charged me £102 (he didn't even allow me to see what he is doing). Next day the boiler stop working, i called them again, the same engineer came looked and took some part away, he told me - the water cannot go through because something is blocking, thats why its stopped working and was making a noise, he told me that he is not going to do anything, other guys should come and repair. So he left me with boiler which was leaking and smelling of gas. nobody called me for few days. I called them again myself and explain what happened, the customer service told me that they are going to charge me again if i want to book the engineer. I was complaining that they took money already for repair £102 but they said well it was for diagnostic only. I was not satisfied with this answer and i called another company. When another company came and they saw how the boiler was left with leaking water and gas, they told me that i should report CH-Westend as they left me in a dangerous situation, their engineer took the part which was causing the leaking water and gas. So i have all the pictures and video how that engineer left me and i'm going to report this company. No way that i will deal with CH-Westend again.
