From the minute I contacted Chalfont…

From the minute I contacted Chalfont Acoustics, the customer service was awful. Very uninterested and antagonistic from the beginning. As he is one of the only recommended providers for my record player in the country, I had to use his service to replace the motor and belt. During which he recommended a new cartridge. I agreed. Once I had the deck collected and returned home, the sound was heavily distorted. I contacted him again to inform and explore what could be the potential issue. I don’t have any significant technical knowledge and simply wanted to understand what the issue may be. He became instantly defensive, detailing the history of his experience and basically refused to even listen to my request as well as refusing any refund (which I did not request at the time). I called a local provider as I was willing to take it to a new engineer to test if the problem was with the cartridge or my equipment. Within a 5 minute call, with great customer service, I was advised that I simply needed to flick the EQ switch to off. Works perfectly. Despite the work completed evidently being satisfactory, the experience of working with Chalfont acoustics is one of the worst I have ever had when considering any service I have paid for. Unfortunately if you use a Teac product, you are probably going to have to use his service and suffer terrible customer service and communication.

Esoteric Preamplifier Repair

Had an issue with my Esoteric C03 high end preamplifier, sent it to Jo and within 2 days he had found the fault (right channel power supply failure) and provide a quotation for repair. On acceptance of the quotation he ordered the new power supply component from Japan and within 2 weeks I had my preamplifier back in my system as good as new. Jo emailed me updates along the way, superb professional service, thank you!

Qualified and trustworthy.

I had Load/Unload issues with my Esoteric X-03se CD/SACD player last year so sent it to Jo at Chalfont Acoustics for repair, which he did by replacing the necessary belts/cogs needed to complete the repair and checked over the player whilst with him. The whole process took only around 10 days and he returned the player to me in good working order.
A few months ago I had an unusual DAC problem with the player and had to send it back to Jo for evaluation and repair again - which he quickly did and returned it to me again.
I found Jo to be knowledgeable, courteous and helpful in my dealings with him and would not hesitate to use his services again if the need arose.

Tascam 112 serviced

Had my ageing Tascam 112 serviced by Jo at Chalfont Acoustics, he did an amazing job of bringing this beloved piece of equipment back to life. Much appreciated finding someone who can still carry out this complex work for a reasonable price.

Tells you your product is scrap, very poor.

Recently purchaced a Teac V8000S cassette deck from EBAY, it was a lot of money and working well, I wanted to have it cheacked by a profesional and found Chalfont Acoustics, I contected the owner and he said yes he could do the job, I drove around 200 miles to him and found he worked from home, on arrival he told me that the tape heads would most likely be worn out, I left it with him and a day later he phoned me and told me a spring had been streached, he said he had found a spring in Germany so I asked him to continue, a week latter came another phone call to say that the Americans cant supply the spring, I smelt a rat and dicided to go and collect the Teac deck, when I arrived he wanted £75.00 pluss VAT for doing almost nothing, I gave him £60.00 cash, I got no reciept. A few days latter I had an email requesting more money, I ignored the request. I then tried to find his VAT number and found nothing. This buisness has be reported by others as being false and I agree. In the mean time, the cassette deck has been seviced and there was no mention of a bad spring or worn heads, keep clear of this individual. Bob
