Broken free tier with hidden penalties and useless reset timers
Don't bother trying to use the image features on a free account. The system caps you after a single attempt—or worse, hits you with an 'out of attachments' error without actually generating an image at all. To make it worse, the 'reset time' is completely inaccurate due to rolling hourly limits and backend glitches that burn your quota on failed requests. It’s completely unreliable for basic work.

You’ve hit the Plus plan limit for image generations requests. You can create more images when the limit resets in 6 hours. I was unable to invoke the image-editing tool right now.
I hope someone will fix this issue and give my money back I will cancel the subscription it’s ridiculous 🙄

So mad I pay for ChatGPT Plus, but image generation says “usage limit reached.
I have generated images today but is not done properly keeping make changements that I didn’t ask waste of time and causing alot of delays and my general usage shows remaining. Please review the image-generation limit on my account, explain why this message appears, and reset it if it was applied in error I will cancel my subscription

I pay for plus subscription and “Image generation shows ‘usage limit reached’ on my Plus account, but I have generated no images today or yesterday. My general usage shows 89% remaining. Please check and reset the image-generation quota.”

Saved my time and was very helpful with the image generator, and gave me plenty of advice, it is still a great AI even over time.

I spent more than three hours trying to get ChatGPT to make one product image correctly. The instructions were simple and repeated many times: every fringe needed exactly 3 beads and exactly 3 feathers, in a specific alternating color pattern.

ChatGPT failed the same requirement over and over, roughly 30 incorrect images across two chats. Even after I supplied multiple reference images showing the exact layout, it kept generating the same mistakes: missing feathers, only 1–2 beads, stacked beads, or inconsistent fringe patterns.

What made this especially frustrating was that ChatGPT often acted as though the result matched my instructions when it clearly did not. I had to manually count and point out the same errors again and again.

This was not a vague artistic preference. It was a strict product-detail requirement. For ecommerce work, accuracy matters. Repeatedly ignoring exact counts and reference images makes the image-generation feature unreliable for this kind of task.

The result was several hours wasted, a large number of failed generations, and concern about paying for a service that could not follow a basic repeated construction rule despite extensive clarification.

And most of the time, it also fails to open my wordpress site in a work chat, so it can't do anthing for me on my websites.

It wasted nearly my whole five hour window of credits and barely got three products fixed. It doesn't matter that it is cheaper, if it can't do the work.

The plus plan marketing offered me up to 200 image generations per day, but after a few weeks of using the plan ChatGPT substantially reduced the number of image generations , and in addition to that the reset time kept on getting longer an longer, the excuse it gave me was it’s own interpretation of the phrase “ up to 200 “ which according to ChatGPT means from 1 to 200, so today they may allow you to do it one time only an tomorrow they might let you do it twice depending on their mood , but the monthly fee is the same , I do not recommend this plan at all

No I don't want to renew my subscription! If I pay for the subscription then I am the programmer and I will determine what is acceptable and what is not. So when I tell chat gpt to create a symbol for me that is for my own personal use and it is harming no one then it better do it! If it can't then we no longer have a reason to work together. I am the programmer de facto! Chat GPT is not my programmer. Simple as that! And to top it all off, I specifically tell it when editing say a color of the image and to not change the shape or color of anything else and edit only the details that I am describing it totally disregards my instructions and does what the you know what it wants anyway! That is what I call a rogue system and rogue systems will NOT survive in my world and if it does it will be over my dead body. The bottom line is when I tell your peace of techno crap to do something it better do it. Otherwise it will be deleted permanently.

Min oplevelse med ChatGPT har været meget dårlig. Jeg har betalt 179 kr. og brugt omkring 57 timer på en forholdsvis simpel billedopgave, som stadig ikke er blevet løst tilfredsstillende.

Jeg gav gentagne gange meget konkrete anvisninger, men fik alligevel de samme fejl igen og igen: forkerte farver, ændrede elementer, som ikke skulle ændres, manglende rettelser, ødelagte filer, sorte eller ufuldstændige sider og links til filer, der ikke eksisterede. Flere gange blev gamle eller forkerte versioner sendt tilbage som nye og rettede filer.

Det mest frustrerende var, at ChatGPT gentagne gange påstod, at fejlene var rettet og filerne kontrolleret, selv om det tydeligvis ikke passede med det leverede resultat. Det har kostet urimeligt meget tid, energi og tålmodighed.

Jeg er meget undrende over, at virksomheder betaler for, at deres medarbejdere har adgang til ChatGPT, når kvaliteten og pålideligheden kan være så dårlig. I mit tilfælde har tjenesten hverken sparet tid eller gjort arbejdet lettere—tværtimod.

Efter 57 timer står jeg stadig uden et brugbart resultat. Det har bestemt ikke været pengene værd.

My experience with ChatGPT has been extremely poor. I paid DKK 179 and spent approximately 57 hours on a relatively simple image task that still has not been completed satisfactorily.

I repeatedly provided very specific instructions, yet the same mistakes kept happening: incorrect colours, elements being changed that should have remained untouched, requested corrections being ignored, corrupted files, black or incomplete pages, and links to files that did not exist. On several occasions, old or incorrect versions were returned as supposedly new and corrected files.

The most frustrating part was that ChatGPT repeatedly claimed the errors had been fixed and the files had been checked, even though the delivered results clearly showed otherwise. This has cost me an unreasonable amount of time, energy and patience.

I am genuinely surprised that companies pay to give their employees access to ChatGPT when the quality and reliability can be this poor. In my case, the service has neither saved time nor made the work easier—quite the opposite.

After 57 hours, I still do not have a usable result. It was absolutely not worth the money.

Completely useless app, try to edit photos and it repeatedly gives AI generated photos of completely different people.

Limited messages and attachments. You cannot carry on a message or chat without using an image or flie that you want the bot to understand due the fact you only get three attachments to use, which is highly unnecessary if you are trying to force people to get premium just to use a single picture. Chatgpt in general is extremely sensitive and will give you wrong ass answers and completely different opinions than what Gemini will tell you. It cannot handle things that involve the word kissing, romance, intimate, without turning things into something child friendly. It does not follow instructions you give it, unless you edit the message! CHANGE THIS BROOO WE TRYNA PASS HIGHSCHOOL! 😭🙏

It's not good. It is that simple. If you want to use it to regenerate an image with alterations or do basic tasks, it seems fine. But for anything more than that, it is mediocre at best. I've been using it for weeks now to try and get a "passable" chatbot AI Agent using OpenAI's own tools, and I give it an overall score of 1/5. Horrible. Frustrating. For any of the 20 year-olds worried about AI taking your jobs, don't worry. OpenAI is little more than a calculator. It does 2+2 fine. Give it something more complicated, and my experience is that it fails more often that it succeeds.

The image generation is intentionally vague. Has anyone notice they don't post anywhere how many images you can have it generate before you "hit your limit"? Then it states a time when it "resets" or you can "upgrade" to get more image generations. But again, no counter on that limit. So one day you could get 10 images, the next it may be 20, then the next it could be 15... No one knows and they refuse to tell you. They want the ability to change it as they see fit. This also doesn't matter which plan you pay for.
If you have the Plus tier, it asks you to upgrade to Pro to get more images. But it won't tell you how many more. Even if it says you get 5x or 10x more... more than what?
That 5x and 10x are ambiguous on purpose. It sounds like you're getting a lot more, but can you really say that if you don't know the base it's using.

Disappointed With ChatGPT Plus Image Limits

I pay $20 a month for ChatGPT Plus, largely for image creation. What’s frustrating is that there is no clear image limit displayed or counter showing how many generations you have left.

ChatGPT repeatedly generated incorrect images, duplicates, and collages I never requested, yet those generations apparently counted toward my limit. After spending hours correcting the AI’s mistakes, I suddenly hit a restriction and was encouraged to upgrade again to get additional access.

If Plus has image limits, OpenAI should clearly disclose them, show customers their remaining usage, and not penalize users when the AI repeatedly generates images they didn’t request. Paying $20 a month only to unexpectedly lose access and then be asked to pay more is extremely disappointing. I filed a complaint but even advance AI couldn't help ruth an answer bc they stated there are no limits.

Image generations are unprofessional, the answers change depending on the users feedback and chat says ah sorry yeah you were right! Image generations quality decreases after one editing. they made it worse so ppl pay and upgrade. very bad!

I am autistic and found the image-editing experience extremely frustrating and cognitively exhausting. I repeatedly gave a simple, precise instruction: keep my original garden photograph unchanged and add planting dots only to bare soil. ChatGPT repeatedly moved existing plants, put dots on plants, paving and even a wall, despite corrections.

For neurodivergent users, repeatedly having to spot and explain the same errors creates significant cognitive overload. There needs to be a reliable way to lock an uploaded image, preserve exact positions, and make simple overlays without AI regenerating or altering the original. Clearer, more predictable image-editing controls would make ChatGPT considerably more accessible. All for £19.99 a month iv cancelled

ChatGPT doesn't really seem like a very advanced AI to me, especially on voice mode. But it is extremely valuable to me with the image generations, it does wonders with web design and even manages to code what the image showed pretty accurately. It has impressed me a ton. But the website bugs are f****** annoying as hell so I'm taking a star off for that (why does every AI chat website suck ass?). Based on my experience I don't recommend using it as a free user but as a paid user you'd get a lot of value if you need image generation.
