A great tool. Often times the side band connections are finicky, (and I have very short cut hair!) but works great otherwise. Wish headphones weren't needed for deep sleep boosts. Its another inconven... See more

I wanted to like the Muse Athena. The idea is strong, but the real-world experience hasn’t matched the price.
The core problem is basic reliability. Connection is inconsistent: it can take 10–15 minutes to connect, and sessions can drop out mid-way. That defeats the purpose of something you’re meant to be able to use consistently.
I’ve tried the standard troubleshooting (re-pairing, reinstalling the app, checking permissions/updates, restarting) without a lasting fix. I also reached out to Muse in December and again in January and received no reply, which is honestly the most disappointing part.
For something this expensive, “maybe it works today” plus silence from support isn’t acceptable. Until this is addressed properly, I can’t recommend it.

It’s very challenging to get the Muse Athena head band to pick up the signals despite using a damp cloth on my head or tightening the band. Tightening the band causes the sides to curl up and is uncomfortable and challenging to concentrate or relax. Counter productive for meditation.🙁

The EEG data collection went pretty smooth for my research study. The signal quality seems acceptable. The addition of the fnirs sensors in the Athena model are an amazing addition which I have been looking for for a while. That being said, the in-app neurofeedback/activities did not seem to do much for me. I had only used the sleep features when I first got it a few years ago, and at the time it was very underwhelming. Just a bunch of abstract numbers that did not mean much to me and it lacked detailed information about my sleep or raw data that I could analyze myself.

Blue tooth connection fail many times , the sensors for ears are week , the volume of lessons need to set every time to start , no connection with laptop , too many things that are with problems . I am not satisfied about your product .

I’m still trying to figure it out…
That’s where I’d like more information…

I’ve been using Muse since 2020 because I really wanted to build a consistent meditation habit — and it truly helped me stick with it. Of course, I’ve taken a few breaks here and there, but I’ve still reached more than a 120-day streak, which I’m really proud of.
I’ve seen a huge improvement in my meditation level. I went from struggling to sit for 5 minutes to comfortably meditating for an hour. The real-time feedback — especially the birds, breathing guidance, and heart rate relaxation cues — has made a big difference in helping me stay present and understand my progress.
I genuinely recommend it to my friends and clients. It’s been a game changer for building a sustainable meditation practice.

I’m giving the Muse 2 a solid 4 stars. It has been a fantastic addition to my routine, and the sheer simplicity of the device makes it incredibly easy to maintain a daily meditation practice—which is a win in itself!
That said, there are a few areas where the experience could be a bit more "zen":
App Performance: I’ve encountered some occasional audio glitching within the app which can be a little distracting when you're trying to find your flow.
Navigation: A search function in the app is definitely missing; it would make finding specific sessions much faster.
Data & Customization: For the data nerds out there, you currently can't export raw data. I also find it a bit of a shame that you can't target waves other than Alpha.
The Verdict: If you want a sleek, user-friendly tool to keep you consistent and mindful, Muse 2 is excellent. If they can iron out the app bugs and add a bit more depth for power users, it would be a perfect 5/5!

I’ve been using the Muse Athena for a couple of months now, and overall I’m quite satisfied with the purchase.
I should say upfront that I’m probably not the “typical” user. I’ve been meditating for many years, so I don’t really use most of the guided meditations or the sleep features offered in the app. My use is fairly simple and focused: short to medium meditation sessions, mostly unguided.
That said, even with this relatively limited use, I’ve found the device genuinely helpful. I have experienced some connectivity issues during evening or night sessions ( possibly related to sweat accumulation throughout the day), and at times, the metrics don’t fully match my subjective experience of a given meditation session. That’s something to keep in mind if you expect the data to be perfectly aligned with how you “feel.”
However, for me, the real value of Muse Athena lies elsewhere. The ability to quantify and lightly gamify meditation in a semi-objective way has been incredibly effective in helping me maintain consistency. Seeing patterns over time, tracking sessions, and having some form of external feedback — even if imperfect — has made a noticeable difference in my commitment to daily practice.
For that reason alone, the device has already been worth it for me. It’s not about replacing introspection or experience, but about supporting consistency and long-term engagement. If that resonates with you, Muse Athena can be a very useful tool.

What made my experience great was the excellent customer service. I was assisted by Mae, and even though I’m not a big fan of email-only interactions and prefer phone or chat, Mae went out of their way to understand the problem and provided timely responses after every communication, resulting in a positive resolution of my case. I can see that Interaxon clearly prioritizes its customers and makes you feel like more than just a number.
Keep up the great communication!
On the downside, the Muse-S 2 headband (fabric band/sensors) has failed again, marking the fourth or fifth time in my two years as a customer

I purchased the Muse Athena last year, when it first came out and was thrilled with it! Unfortunately, after six months, it sometimes gave me incorrect data, so I had to moisten it with water more and more to make it work. Then I realized that the hard reset of the device wasn't working, which is a sign that there must be a hardware problem. I contacted the Muse team (over the past few months, I had already asked the team several times for information about the app/how the measurements work or how to use the battery, and the support team was always very helpful!) and explained exactly what the problem was. As always, they were very friendly and accommodating and sent me a replacement Muse Athena device just a few days after my email. I am very grateful for this and can't wait to continue my journey with the new device. I'm still totally thrilled that they've managed to develop such a small headband that can measure brain waves without having to put on a lab cap. It’s a game-changer for home use and WORTH EVERY PENNY. Still excited!

My experience is progressing well (I hope). However, I would like to have the data available to analyze it and, thus, test neuroscientific hypotheses with cognitive designs and tasks.

The Muse Athena is a phenomenal piece of hardware. The integration of EEG and fNIRS in a single wearable is a game-changer for my wellness tracking and BCI hacking projects. The data is surprisingly clean, and it’s become my go-to for overnight sleep studies. Highly recommended for researchers and hobbyists alike!

I already bought two headbands, also the most current Athena.
Shipment and customer support are excellent.
The biofeedback from the headbands is an interesting and helpful way to enhance my meditation experience. There have been many new features (brain strength, sleep…) rolled out and the app continuously improved, the library of guidance programs is extensive so there is much room for growth!

I have had the Muse S Athena now for a couple of weeks and have used it daily. It is very comfortable to wear and easy to adjust. The Muse and Myndlift apps are well-designed and intuitive. I pair my neurofeedback sessions with wireless earbuds and a hands-free phone holder for ultimate comfort. Have noticed positive cognitive differences since beginning use. I am excited for what else may come.
