CILEx Judicial Academy

I am a participant on the CILEX Judicial Academy programme and I can honestly say, it is one of the most valuable professional development programmes that I have attended. It is well structured and the facilitator - Judith Bourne is knowledgeable, very supportive and most importantly, genuinely invested in each participant’s success. The program has helped to demystify the judicial pathway and equipped me with the confidence and clarity I needed to take the next steps in my career. The webinars are engaging and informative, and i have had the opportunity to connect with peers who are equally committed to progressing on the same journey. I would highly recommend the CILEX Judicial Academy Programme to anyone considering a future in the judiciary or simply looking to deepen their understanding of judicial practice.

I used CILEx Law School to qualify as…

I used CILEx Law School to qualify as an FCILEx and felt supported along the way, resources were of a high quality and feedback was clear and prompt. I know colleagues who have used different providers and the studying platform hasn't been as robust or organised.

Judicial Academy

The opportunities and platform that being part of the judicial academy has given me are priceless.

You get support and exposure, and real life experiences from people in the know. In addition to hints and tips that no book or website can give you.

You are surrounded by like-minded individuals. I'm humbled and grateful to be a part of this learning experience.

Cilex judicial academy course

I have attended the judicial academy course. The lead, Judith Bourne, did an amazing job in delivering all sessions. Overall, the course content and support that I received was exceptional and I definitely recommend it

Please go elsewhere, or you could end up stuck

I have been with this law school for almost 6 years, when I started my level 3 family course the content was brilliant, engaging and exciting to learn. I moved to CPQ in 2023 due to changes in the courses and format. I wish had done my research and gone to a different provider then and there.

I have raised more complaints with the law school in the past almost 3 years than I have in my entire whole life. From slow to non existent support, old content and material that is not updated regularly, inconsistent support across modules, and lectures that are regularly cancelled, I do wonder if I have even had the full value of what I have paid.

I have raised so many complaints, sent so much feedback and the message is always the same, we will look to improve, we apologise, but nothing ever changes. I even went as far as speaking to the Dean of the school back in 2024 I believe, and yet nothing has changed or improved.

The law school seems to have such a high turnover of tutors you never know if its the same from one month to the next, the content for one of my modules has been the same since the summer of 2024, its now Jan 2026. No refreshed lectures, no refreshed mock exam material, even though the regulator (CILEX) assures me they have issued this.

All in all, go elsewhere as the mental load of dealing with this law school is the most overwhelming part of my daily life. I have even started paying for content from other sources now.

Not told Family certificate not available

I enrolled as a member and paid the registration fee with CILEx themselves to have access to the Certificate in Family Law course. However, once enrolled, I was not actually able to purchase the course from CILEx Law School. The course shop did not have the course listed, even though a welcome email I was sent directed me there to purchase the course materials. I also note here that, although CILEx and CILEx Law School proport to be separate entities, this is not really the case from my experience and they very much seem integrated (in other words, you have to buy the Law School courses from the shop, which is located within the main CILEx portal).

The only learning material I had was a digital textbook from CILEx themselves; however, my understanding is that you have to be enrolled with a training centre to take the exams. You can go through and book them, but my understanding is that not being enrolled with a training centre is considered exam malpractice if CILEx find out.

This left me in limbo, as I had effectively paid out over £500 for nothing. Other training centres did not have the Family Certificate available yet either. In other words, CILEx themselves should not be offering enrolment on the certificate at the moment. The welcome email I received from CILEx themselves said that CILEx Law School was the only provider for the Family Certificate.

Upon contacting CILEx, I was informed that the Family certificate was not available until the end of January. Nowhere did it ever say this at enrolment; the implication is that you can start straight away.

I wanted to do this to dip my toes into law, but the issue is that starting the course in January would have been outside CILEx's 14 day cooling off period. Had I waited until January and then decided the course was not for me, I would not have been able to get a refund on my CILEx membership and course registration fee, even if I may have been able to get a refund from CILEx law school for the course materials.

This was a risk I was not willing to take, so unfortunately decided not to continue with the certificate. I was able to get a refund in the end.

I am writing this to warn any others who are thinking of doing the Family Practice certificate. I also believe that the Wills and Probate certificate may not be available yet at the moment, as other training centres don't seem to offer it.

This experience has unfortunately left me with a sour taste in my mouth, and I will be staying away from CILEx in the future.

Don’t join CILEX

The school is registered as a Ltd company and they indicate on their website that they provide education. Don’t fall for the trap they do not offer any education and you are given online access to a hub and online books. You are told that you can study whilst you are working but they expect you to put in all the work yourself no assistance or. Help Is offered. They don’t have any duty or care towards the student. By the time you figure out what you got yourself into the 14 days run out and you never get your money back. Don’t waste your time with them, it’s better to go to a proper university and study there. They will fail you with few marks and then ask you to pay again for extension on your course. By the time you finish you are working as hard as a solicitor but not really considered a solicitor. Just a waste of money and time. Not recommended. Not a proper school or education institution.
