A wonderful experience!
On our school shoe shopping visit to the central Chester store today we were attended to by Lily. A university student that I can honestly say was SO professional, she listened, explained and had a wonderful attitude to both adults and Children.
It was a visit we weren’t looking forward to ( the usual stress of this time of year ). Thank you Lily and her manager today, you made the experience a five star one! We’ll be back. From two slightly less stressed adults, and two very happy children l.
Excellent service at clarks shoe shop in Chester.
Excellent service at clarks shoe shop in Chester today, shop assistant Courtney very attentive and helpful with Granddaughter and serving me. The Chester store was tidy and presented well with great staff that were all visible and helping customers. Chester store and staff are a credit to the company. Been shopping there for children's shoes and for myself for 30 years.

Disengaged staff! Clarks ain’t what it used to be!
I went into Clark’s in Chester on 30 April at 1.30pm. The shop was empty and two shop assistants at back of shop were chatting to each other.
I was diagnosed as having one leg shorter than the other recently and had special soles made which I have to insert into every pair of shoes and wear full time. It has been a nightmare to find summer sandals as the soles slip in the sandals with an open back.
Clarks was the first shop I went to as they had a reputation when I was young (70s and 80s) as the expert in feet and as going that extra mile to help you get the right shoes. I had something in mind as to what I needed. Some summer type shoes which weren’t too hot to wear (I was wearing trainers all the time) and had a back so like a proper shoe but with a back and with gaps in. The shop had very similar to what I wanted but we’re in black and looked quite wintery.
I approached the two women who were still chatting and looked very disinterested in helping (like I was disturbing their chat) and asked if they had them in white. One said “no we don’t have those in white” I explained my problem just as I have explained in this review so a minute or so of explaining and the woman just repeated “no we don’t have those in white” I then said “is there anything else you have with backs that are summery to which she replied no nothing.
My husband said to me as we left shop they don’t deserve our money treating us like that. I have since bought a pair of sandals from remonte range at pavers with loose soles as well as wide fitting slip on sketchers. The shop people could not have been more different (see my pavers review dated 2 May to see the difference). The shop assistant listened and empathised with my story racking her brains to think of what might help and different ideas. I was in there for almost an hour and the shop staff bent over backwards to help.
Maybe pavers is the new Clark’s!!! I do think Clark’s should have a USP of great service and expertise in feet and there’s so much they could do to build on this (podiatry issues, measuring running shoes, fitness/feet expertise) but instead you have disengaged staff who can’t be bothered to listen to customer needs!!

Disappointing- Wish we had gone elsewhere
We visited Clarks to buy our baby’s first shoes. We made an appointment earlier in the day to visit that afternoon. When we arrived, the shop was empty of customers and we had to wait around for someone to help us. We didn’t feel welcome and found the whole experience quite awkward. From previous experiences, we had always thought that Clarks was the best for children’s shoes so never considered going anywhere else for our baby’s first shoes (which we consider to be a big occasion). When booking, we asked if there was anything special you offer for the first appointment, as we know you have in the past. We were told we got a special box and a Polaroid picture. The box is not special, it’s just white with ‘First Shoes’ written on. We asked about the ‘Polaroid’ and were told it was a filter on the Clarks Instagram. We couldn’t find it and asked for help - the lady (who was a different lady to the one who took our appointment) was very helpful but couldn’t find the filter and said it had been removed. We tried to take a nice photo of our son with his first shoes in the shop only for one of the shop assistants to remark “Are you taking more photos?”. We could not have felt less welcome. During the appointment, I had a few questions about the shoes and how they would support foot development- the only answer I got was “these are the first shoes”. We just felt like an inconvenience the whole time, despite the shop being empty. During our time there, only one other customer came in. We left feeling so disappointed and deflated and both said we wished we’d gone elsewhere. Unfortunately we’ve shared our experience with other parent friends because we want them to have the special experience that we didn’t have.

School Shoes
Went into store to purchase school shoes for my daughter. The choice in store was extremely limited due to needing an E fitting shoe. The member of staff wasn’t particularly helpful, although we left having purchased a pair of shoes, I then ordered another pair online - there was no offer to do this for us in store, unlike last year when nothing was too much trouble!
I decided to take my daughter to your Broughton Park branch for them to check the fit of the shoe that I ordered online, they were much more helpful there & processed the refund for the additional pair no issue! I will be using them more going forward!!

Amazing service from Lily in the Chester store. She helped find the right size for my 2 daughters and understood the style of shoes I wanted for both. She explained really well about how to check that they fit correctly and my daughters felt really relaxed with her. Thank you Lily!

Suzanne was very helpful with finding me school shoes and listened to everything I said.
Really helpful Skye
Really helpful staff.
Not pushy at all with purchases.
Calm professional manner dealing with my 4 year old who I was buying school shoes for. She tried really hard to engage him in conversation.
The assistant I dealt with was called Skye. What I particularly liked about her was when she was unsure about if the shoe fit she went and asked for another member of staff to double check for her to ensure we got the right fit. Skye explained she had only recently been signed off fitting children’s shoes.
She did a fantastic job and I would happily go back again to have further shoes.
I also really like the offer of going back after 3 months to have the shoes checked - if they are no longer the right size you get a brand new pair of shoes in the correct size
On arrival in the store
On arrival in the store, Kayleigh guided us through the process and measuring our children’s feet. She was brilliant and gave us some guidance and advice on the children’s feet and best fit options. Happy with our purchase and fitting for the children.
Excellent service
Came in to look at school shoes for my daughter who is very fussy. Jacob was fab, managed to get her feet measured without her kicking off and he was very helpful and patient. Great service.
Great service from Jess at Chester
Jess at the Chester store was helpful, professional, knowledgeable and appreciated the requirements of our daughter. We walked away with the right shoes, and for a price that was a pleasant surprise.
