Avoid at all costs if you are a teacher.

Awful to work through. A very frustrating experience. Firstly they only pay you once you have 50 euros credit in your account.
I was teaching through them a year ago but found other platforms far more effective.
My last lesson was over 6 months ago. At that point I had about 45 euros in my account which was frustrating.

Today I received a message through classgap for a single lesson. OK, I thought, this means I can at last get hold of the money they owe me.

So I logged into my account and found there is no record of me ever having given a lesson on there and as a result I have a zero balance.

That, in my book, is theft.

Avoid at all costs if you are a teacher.

Their business model is designed to steal from you.

Hello,

Thank you for your comments, they help us to improve the quality of our service.

We would like to point out that regarding the payment once you reach 50€ in your profile as a tutor, it is established in our terms and conditions of the platform.

On the other hand, we would also like to inform you that in the payment section of your profile, you will find the registered payments if you enter the date of the classes you have done.

Finally, we recommend you to contact our customer service team for more information.

Best regards!

Leaves me always feeling disappointed

The IDEA is great and you can get work through them, but they take a whopping 20% of EVERY LESSON, don't pay you till you accumulate over £50 (or might be €50) and they seem to use the worst currency converter for conversion rates, as after losing all that cash, you lose another amount to get paid into a GBP Paypal account.

I was told I could set up payment to any bank account 'in the European Union' to be paid in Euro. I have a Revolut account, "Revolut is a global neobank and financial technology company that offers banking services. Revolut Bank UAB is licensed and regulated by the Bank of Lithuania within the European Union. Headquartered in London." But was told they can't pay into that. Oh dear.

When they pay you, you get NO breakdown statement or anything, you just have to hope they got it right. You can ask for one, but have to go through giving them your personal details and passport info just to get it! I must say, I've NEVER dealt with any legit business that pays or receives payment without documentation either sent to you, or made available via an online account, so can't say I'm happy with that.

As for the platform itself, in order to keep their commission, you are NOT ALLOWED to give people any website of yours to check out, email addresses, or any kind of contact info. You can just use their messaging page online. I think this is excessive. They should get an introductory commission then allow you to breathe by yourself if you wish. It's very hard to build up a rapport this way. I have a good relationship with all my (non-Classgap) students via WhatsApp. Sending links to shared Dropbox files for info sheets and project files is far more useful than scrolling through online messages to find attachments.

The platform itself seems to be more unstable than via Zoom and there is often an issue with the connection and/or the sound, which severely hampers lessons, especially when they are about music! And if the student's connection drops out, even though YOU are still waiting and available, they stop the clock on the lesson. I spent a while waiting for a student to return, and meanwhile created some useful info sheets specifically for her in that time. I understand that this wasn't ideal for her and she missed online teaching time, but she got the benefit of my time through the info sheets. However, the clock stopped when she lost connection, so my time was unpaid.

Their customer service is good in that they do respond with (vanilla) replies to emails, but which are translated from Spanish... so tend to be minimal and often miss out details on you may be asking about.

Overall, I still remain on there and teach as it's all useful income, but I can't say I'm happy when using the platform and I'm sure there must be better ones out there!

Hello.

Thank you for your comments, these help us to improve the quality of our service every day a little more.

Inform you that Classgap applies a commission for each class, as we offer a virtual classroom with all the necessary tools, a wide range of students, customer service, maintenance of the website, etc... All these actions involve a cost and keep in mind that there are many workers behind the platform so that you can have the best possible experience and to be able to serve you whenever you need it.

All our conditions are stipulated in our terms and conditions and are accepted when registering as a tutor on the platform.

90% of the technical errors are linked to a misconfiguration by one of the two users. We recommend that you request a free technical test with our customer service team so that we can help you with the issue and improve the quality of your lessons.

On the other hand, communication must be carried out internally on the platform for user security reasons.

Also inform you that we always make our payments in euros as we are within the framework of the European community, then your payment institution is responsible for making the conversion to your local currency and may apply a commission for it, but that is an external action to Classgap.

Finally as we inform you that from Classgap we exercise the function of depositaries, ie, we charge the student, we deposit the amount on the platform and once each class is paid to the tutor. Therefore, as we are not the one who provides the final service, we cannot invoice the tutor.

However, we can provide you with the invoices with the commissions applied on the classes carried out in Classgap, for this, we need you to provide us with your data. It is not possible to send an invoice without adding any recipient data.

Best regards!

The support team is unresponsive, neglecting emails, and not refunding the money.

The support team is unresponsive, neglecting emails, and not refunding the money.
If you were lucky enough to encounter a good tutor, then you may not notice the true level of customer service, which is really disappointing and appears to be a real scam.
I purchased 10 lessons with Tutor Vernon. Last week, he didn't show up for scheduled lessons on Friday (25 Aug) and Sunday (27 Aug), and I was waiting for him in the classroom. Then, he deleted his profile from the platform. As a result, I can't use my lessons because he ran away from Classgap.
Therefore, I decided to write to customer service to at least get my money back. From this point onward, interesting things have started. For the first two days, they responded to me via email as we discussed how to process the refund. However, each time before agreeing on something, they disappeared, and the next day, I had to start from scratch because a new colleague from customer service asked me to provide the same information as the previous day.

Then, for the last three days, customer service completely ignored me and didn't respond to any of my emails. This is really bizarre and unacceptable. During this week, I wrote more than 20 emails, and this is without any result.

So, be prepared that if you encounter any problems on this platform, the support will not help you; moreover, they will ignore you and not return your money.

very poor user experience

The user interface is difficult to navigate, the internationalization is quite bad I frequently see things in the UI that are in Spanish instead of English. The UI also frequently shows me prompts and messages that assume I am a teacher when I am actually a student. The way it displays times is not appropriate for my location and it doesn't show me what timezone the time is in. There is no calendar integration so I have to remember to also put each lesson on my calendar when I schedule them and if they get rescheduled. The platform only supports the chrome browser on desktop. I would highly recommend using italki over class gap hands down.

Thank you for your comments, they help us to improve the quality of our service and we take note of them in order to provide you with the best possible experience.

Please note that you can configure the language of your interface, either in the drop-down menu at the bottom of your homepage or in the "settings" option if you are in the virtual classroom.

The timetables available on the Classgap portal are automatically adapted to the device you are using. So it will depend on the time slot you have configured on your device.

Great platform for language learning.

I've been using Classgap for about a year now, and I'm very satisfied. The platform is great, and there are tons of available instructors who you can filter by their country, their first language, any additional language they speak etc. I managed to find the one I really like (and I am very picky) so my Spanish classes are not only productive but also enjoyable!
