Opel Is a Huge Disappointment – Customer Discrimination by Opel Türkiye
Like many other Opel owners who have shared their experiences on automotive forums, I also experienced a timing belt failure at only 73,000 km.
My 2021 Opel Corsa 1.2T Ultimate suddenly stalled at a traffic light and would not start again. The vehicle had to be towed to the authorized Kahyaoğulları Opel Service in İzmir.
What makes this situation even more frustrating is that all maintenance of my vehicle has been carried out at authorized Opel service centers. The last maintenance was performed at 63,000 km at the same authorized service.
After the incident, I opened a complaint case with Opel Türkiye. I was informed that since the vehicle had been serviced at authorized dealers, the issue could be evaluated under a goodwill policy. Many owners who experienced the same issue have reportedly received goodwill support.
In order to repair my vehicle, I had to pay 93,328 TL for the replacement of the timing belt set, water pump, battery, and other maintenance items. The service center stated that if Opel approved the goodwill request, the amount would be refunded.
However, Opel Türkiye later rejected the request, claiming that the last service was performed more than one year after the previous maintenance (01.11.2023 – 48,468 km / 07.05.2025 – 63,824 km).
I explained that although more than one year had passed, the vehicle had not exceeded the 15,000 km service interval. I also asked why the timing belt issue was not detected during the 63,000 km periodic maintenance, but I received no clear answer.
According to Opel’s own documentation, the timing belt replacement interval is 90,000 km or 6 years. However, many users of vehicles with the PSA engine group report the same failure between 60,000 and 70,000 km.
For these reasons, I believe this situation reflects inconsistent customer support, and I request that Opel Türkiye refund the 93,328 TL I had to pay for this repair.
