economic model disadvantage for musicians

content creators and musicians are not treated at the same level. Content creators contact musicians to promote their music on the creators' social networks in exchange for financial payment. Why do musicians have to pay, already knowing that the economic situation of music is difficult. I opened 2 tickets on this subject with their support and I never got any answers.

Dear rudj beatz,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We genuinely value input from our community as it helps us improve our services.

We aim to create a fair and transparent platform for both musicians and content creators. We updated our payment process based on user suggestions to ensure a smoother collaboration experience. Previously, payments were made after the content was posted by the creator. However, we realized that this process created uncertainties and delays. To address these concerns and enhance the user experience, we now require payments to be made in advance before the creator starts working on the content. This change aims to provide clarity and security for all parties involved.

We understand the financial challenges faced by musicians. This new process ensures that creators are committed and motivated to deliver high-quality promotional content for your music. Our goal is to foster a supportive environment where artists can thrive and benefit from effective promotion.

Hope you understand! And if you still have any questions, comments or feedback, please don't hesitate to send our support team an email on help@collabhouse.com.

I can't recommend this distributor at all, looks like they don't wanna earn money.
They take down release by saying 'artificial streams', while receiving the money from Spotify without any problems.

I don't know if what they are doing is legal, but just to warn you guys. Be carefull when distributing with them!!!!

Dear Ymke,

We understand your frustration with having your releases removed due to suspected artificial streaming activity. Allow me to clarify our position and policies.

Per our terms of service that all users agree to, we have robust systems in place to detect fraudulent streaming patterns. When such activities are identified, we reserve the right to take down releases and withhold royalty payouts until a thorough investigation can occur.

While receiving royalties from streaming platforms initially, those funds are placed in escrow if fraud is later detected on our end. We then audit those accounts before releasing any payouts to protect the integrity of royalty payments for legitimate artists.

If your music was removed under suspicion of artificial streams, but you have clear evidence proving otherwise, we invite you to submit that documentation and data to our support team at help@collabhouse.com. We will impartially review any provided proof.

Upholding an ecosystem free of streaming fraud is crucial for ensuring all legitimate parties are compensated fairly based on real listener activity. However, we also aim to correct any mistakes if they occur.

If your evidence conclusively shows your releases had no artificial streams, we will reinstate your catalog and release any withheld royalties accordingly. Our goal is to enforce our policies consistently while still providing due process.

Kind regards,

Royalty Withdrawal Impossible

Since November 2023, my experience with Collabhouse had been positive as I successfully released multiple jazz albums without encountering any issues. However, in February, I began facing rejections of my releases without explanation. Despite my attempts to reach out to support for clarification, I received no response.

To investigate further, I created a new profile and uploaded a jazz album, only to discover that Collabhouse had ceased distributing instrumental jazz music altogether, opting instead to focus solely on high-end vocal music. While I respect their decision, I am disappointed that they chose to take down my previously distributed music catalogue simply because of my additional account creation.

Furthermore, I am encountering difficulty withdrawing my rightfully earned royalties of €800 from Spotify, which were paid out to Collabhouse. It appears that withdrawing my royalties is currently impossible for unknown reasons. This situation reflects poorly on how distributors treat independent artists, and I hope for a swift resolution and release of my royalties.

If these issues are resolved satisfactorily, I am willing to retract any negative feedback and seek a new distributor. In addition to the royalties matter, I also encountered a separate issue where I paid Collabhouse €5 to distribute an album, with the expectation of retaining 100% of the earnings. Unfortunately, despite the payment being accepted, the release never went live, and I was unable to secure a refund.

I earnestly hope that we can address these issues promptly and amicably so that we may part ways peacefully.

UPDATE: Collabhouse informed me after sending this review that they took down my music due to fraudulent activties. However no fraudulent activities are associated with my account and this is also confirmed by Spotify Support themselves. (I talked to them). It seems like Collabhouse just now claims without any proof that my streams were not legitimate. 15% of my streams come from an organic Meta ad promoted Playlist with over 8000 followers and 85% of my streams come from radio and autoplay which to my knowledge is soley influencable by the Spotify algortihm itself. I am asking myself how Collabhouse can claim that my streams were the product of fraudulent behaviour. Spotify paid out my royalties to you which means there was no problem on their end. Collabhouse just states my streams were artificial so they have a reason to close my account without any proof since it violates their T&C'S . This is criminal and fraudulent and I am going to consult european consumer protection. I have evidence that all my streams are organic.
Also if you just take a look at the royalty statement provided from collabhouse itself you can clearly see that my music is listened to all around the world by multiple real people. It is just concerning that distributors can just steal your money without any justifable grounds or proof.

Stay away from this Distibutor. They closed my account and are withholding my royalties because they dont promote instrumental music anymore, they will just accuse you of fraudulent streaming without any reason, which is just a total joke.

Update #2: plenty of evidence was provided proofing the organic nature of my streams - unsurprisingly no response from collabhouse. I am guessing they will play the waiting game as long as they can. Their „internal Security“ is a made up thing. They fail to provide any proof of Stream Manipulation With my Music (which is obvious because there is none). I am warning you ! In total they are trying to steal 1500€ from me. Please just look for a different distributor. They will just scam you.

Reply from Collabhouse

Dear Thamo,

We have reviewed the details regarding the removal of your music catalog from our platform. Based on our internal security systems and analysis, we detected patterns of artificial streaming activity that violated our terms of service around fraudulent streaming practices.

As per the terms and conditions you agreed to when using our service, we reserve the right to close accounts without prior notice if fraudulent activity is suspected. We also have the right to withhold any accumulated royalty payouts and hold them in escrow until a claim can be properly investigated.

While we understand your claim that the streams were legitimate, the evidence available to us indicates otherwise. However, if you have verifiable proof and data showing no rules were violated, we are willing to impartially re-examine your specific case.

Please provide any documentation, third-party verification or other evidence that can substantiate the legitimacy of the streams and listener activity for your releases to help@collabhouse.com. We will thoroughly review any new information provided.

Maintaining an ecosystem free of fraudulent streaming activity is critical to preserving royalty earnings for legitimate artists. While false positives are always possible, we have an obligation to diligently enforce our agreed-upon policies.

If, after reviewing your evidence, we conclude the original takedown was in error, we will reinstate your catalog, releases and any withheld royalty payouts. Our goal is to make principled decisions based on facts and our established terms of service.

Edit: We regret that you feel we have not properly addressed your concerns. However, your claim that we are attempting to "steal" royalties is simply unfounded.

Our terms of service grant us the right to withhold royalties in cases where we detect fraudulent streaming activity. This is not a decision we make lightly, but an obligation to maintain the integrity of our platform and ensure legitimate artists are compensated fairly.

Despite your assertion that you provided "plenty of evidence" for the organic nature of your streams, we have not received any such documentation from you. Our review process requires substantive proof in order to overturn an internal determination of fraudulent behavior.

If you have verifiable data, third-party verification, or other compelling evidence demonstrating the legitimacy of your listener activity, we urge you to submit it directly to our support team at help@collabhouse.com. We will gladly re-evaluate your case if provided with credible information.

However, accusations of theft or scamming are completely unwarranted. Any royalties we have withheld due to suspected fraud are being held in escrow, not appropriated. Any funds will be released should you successfully demonstrate the legitimacy of your streams.

We remain committed to a fair and transparent process. But without the specific evidence you claim to have, we have no choice but to uphold our policies protecting the platform from abuse. We welcome you to provide the proof necessary to resolve this matter amicably.

Kind regards,
Collabhouse

Hi Ludovico,

Thank you very much for the 5-star review and for choosing Collabhouse for your distribution needs. We are happy to hear that everything went live so quickly after your scheduled release date.

Regarding your question about royalty payment timing - we pay out royalties to users on a monthly basis, usually towards the end of each month. The royalties collected in one month are then paid out in the accounting run the following month.

So for example, the streams your tracks get in January on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music will be collected by us in January, then paid out to you by end of February. We pay out according to the royalty splits you provided for each release.

You can always view your latest distribution royalty statements and payments in your Collabhouse account on the Distribution tab under Profile Royalties or My Royalties. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to reach out by sending us an email on help@collabhouse.com so our support team can assist you.

Hi Herry,

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and we sincerely apologize for the delayed response regarding your release. We understand how frustrating it must have been to wait so long without a clear explanation.

After reviewing your case, it appears there was an error in our review process that caused the lengthy delay. Your release was flagged by our automated system for potential copyright issues that required manual review by our team. However, the manual review was not completed in a timely manner. This was our mistake and does not reflect our usual standards for responding to artists.

We have since approved your release and prioritized it for distribution. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked to resolve this issue. Moving forward, we will be implementing improved review procedures to ensure prompt communication with our artists about any flagged content.

We value each artist on Collabhouse and aim to provide an exceptional experience. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly on help@collabhouse.com if you ever have any other questions or concerns.
