I had an excellent experience with Colonial Van Lines! From beginning to end, the entire moving process was handled professionally and efficiently. The team was courteous, organized, and responsive, which made what can normally be a very stressful experience feel much easier.
Communication throughout the move was great, and I appreciated being kept informed along the way. The movers handled my belongings with care, worked efficiently, and demonstrated professionalism throughout the entire process. A special thanks to Serge, Kiana, and all the others who names I can’t remember.
I would definitely recommend Colonial Van Lines to anyone looking for a dependable and professional moving company. Thank you to the entire team for making my move a positive experience. Five stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Generally good experience. But few things could be better. For eg, customer service was hard to reach. Customer service would also promise to call back for important stuff like changing moving date and never would. And again, difficult to reach. They outsourced to zip van lines who arrived on time and generally were flexible and responsive.
The men who came and packed my things were so nice and friendly, they made the move so smooth for me, I am a 66year old woman doing this big move by myself, the men and the company are 👍
I thought they were going to be good. Several people called me to get pickup details and check any changes to my detailed inventory.
I had packed large suction bags for big comforters and blankets. I was told that they were not allowed. They asked how many bags I had and charged me for the added boxes and packing that they were supposed to do. I said, ok…
what else can you say at this point.
I was told my pickup date as we got closer. I made arrangements for someone to be there, since I had to be at the new house in another state but 2 days before my pickup date I received a text message from an unknown number at 9pm saying, see you tomorrow around 10. I had no idea who it was but I thought I should check. And sure enough it was my pickup drivers and they were 2 days early. Now I had to scramble to get someone there for the pickup in the morning. I did find someone.
They came on time and forgot a bed frame sitting next to all the boxes. So, they never checked the list of pickup items. They took a freezer that was not on the list and 4 stools that also were not supposed to go. I had no idea until the new owners called the realtor to tell her what happened. The drivers had to go back for the pickup. They picked up the bed, and still
Never checked the pickup list of items because they didn’t leave the things that weren’t supposed to go. And we didn’t find out until they delivered our furniture, almost 2 weeks later…When I called the company they said it wasn’t their fault. And they were not going to do anything about it. Why make a list of every piece and box if you don’t use it???? Now it was my problem to get these items back to Vermont from Chicago or pay for them to the new owners.
Then as they unloaded my boxes they were so stuffed in that truck that they were squashed and many were broken open. My lamp shades were crushed. The suction bags that I had to pay to have boxed, were never boxed. And several were torn open. And they had to unpack the bed frames and several things that they did wrap and threw their stuff outside my front door. I took pictures of everything. Trash everywhere. So I started piling the boxes and cleaning some of it up and this was the topper of all time…. The driver comes up to me and asks, Do you want us to clean up and remove this trash?????? And I looked at him and said, isn’t that part of the job ??? He said NO!!!! I was in shock. HE SAID IF YOU WANT US TO CLEAN UP AND TAKE THAT GARBAGE IT WILL COST $100!!!!! I was in absolute shock and disbelief!!!! What kind of moving company is this??? Absolutely terrible service!!!! I would Never recommend.
Very communicative throughout the entire process! From the first call I made to get a quote and then during the week leading up to my move, my customer service rep was always in touch with me.
We highly recommend using Colonial Van Lines. We moved from NY to Massachusetts. They packed up the entire apartment carefully and transported everything safely. They kept us updated constantly. The communication was A++. The staff was very informative and professional. I never leave reviews, but had to on this!!
Extremely Disappointing Interstate Move and Claims Experience
My experience with Colonial Van Lines has been extremely disappointing from beginning to end.
I hired Colonial for an interstate move from Colorado to Arkansas after being given specific assurances about who would handle my move, the type of truck that would be used, and the care that would be taken with my belongings—particularly a 120-year-old solid mahogany family heirloom vanity. What actually occurred was very different. My move was performed by a subcontracted carrier, ITX, using a 26-foot box truck.
Upon delivery, I was required to make payment before the truck was opened and before I could inspect my belongings. Multiple pieces of furniture arrived damaged, including significant damage to the 120-year-old heirloom vanity.
To make matters worse, my belongings were essentially thrown and piled into my storage unit in such a manner that the unit was unsafe and extremely difficult to access. I had to hire local professional movers to reorganize everything and move items into additional storage so my belongings could be safely accessed. That cost me an additional $900 out of pocket.
I filed a formal damage claim, submitted photographs and requested documentation, and repeatedly followed up for weeks. Colonial ultimately offered me $348 as full and final settlement.
Their settlement letter states that the amount was calculated using terms in the Bill of Lading and Valuation Addendum, estimated weights and depreciation. Although I saw documents during the moving process, I was never provided copies of the Bill of Lading or Valuation Addendum, either on paper or electronically.
I have formally rejected the $348 settlement and requested copies of all documents Colonial is relying upon, proof of when and how those documents were provided to me, an itemized explanation of the $348 calculation, reimbursement of my $900 additional expense, and reconsideration of my claim.
After attempting repeatedly to resolve this directly with Colonial, I have now filed formal complaints with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Colorado Attorney General, and Arkansas Attorney General.
Moving across the country is stressful enough. Customers should be able to rely upon the representations made when hiring a professional moving company and expect their belongings to be handled with reasonable care.
Based upon my experience with the move, delivery, damage, additional expenses, communication, and claims process, I cannot recommend Colonial Van Lines.
The actual moving crew was fabulous. They were respectful and hard workers. The company was not accurate with the price quote, even though we called and confirmed the load and price several times. Beware and expect to pay much more than they quote you
very efficient and everything got to the destination safely
From beginning to end great people. Efficient, professional, communicative. The men who came to move belongings were careful of all household goods, blanketed and wrapped the furniture securely. The men who delivered the furniture were careful about bumping anything and even put the bed frames back together. Highly recommend.
The communication was great from the first call for information to the call after d e livery
The driver and his crew were the best.
Driver was excellent, really sweet and helpful. Some minor miscommunication from dispatch caused a little stress but it was resolved quickly. 99% of the people I spoke to were kind, helpful, and courteous. Would use again!
Had a great experience. Moving cross country is streasfuk to say the least. The only issue was a bit of a language barrier with both teams but we managed it. The teams were fast, respectful and considerate. Only some broke. Wine glasses due to my poor packing. Unpacking was quick and only delayed by a day due to traffoc. Well with the money paid to have a stress free experience. Subcontractor used which was not Colonial VAN lines. Gratuity was expected and asked for upon delivery. Which I was happy to do. Overall, a good experience . Communication from the reps was regular and helpful and when I called them, I always received a response if they didn’t pick up my call. I would recommend this company but be prepared for third-party for pick up and delivery. Well worth the money spent.
The original quote was not changed at all, so we were not hit with surprise fees.
The only negative feedback is that I didn’t have the direct communication with someone. I always had to leave messages and not all calls were returned. I was surprised to get a call from the driver stating he’d be at our house in a couple of hours, when I was told we would get 24-48 hours notice. It just made it hard to plan for a cross country move, not knowing exactly what day the movers would arrive.
Customer service was great and very informative. Transporters were very professional, polite and helpful .
Moved from Indiana to NH and the move was on time. Communication was very good and I would recommend Colonial to anyone that I know who needs a mover.
I have moved many times and this was the best moving experience we've had so far. The movers were friendly and efficient, and very little was broken or damaged in the move. They delivered to our new home, five states away, two days after pickup. They did leave one nightstand wrapped in moving blankets behind in the house, which we ended up having to drive down ourselves, and when they delivered our things kept asking if they really needed to rebuild the furniture. But honestly, I'd recommend CVL to anyone considering a long-distance move.
The movers left a very valuable mirror behind! Did nothing about it! On delivery all of the sudden boxs were to heavy to carry up stairs! And l would have to find another way to get them upstairs!!! Mind you I'm 72 years old and this is now my problem! Lost a pedestal, did nothing about it!! And now the movers are throwing my boxes down in the apartment!! When signing you up they endlessly, assure you this is going to be a stress-free event, and that was the furthest thing from the truth!!! Oh and they say there not a broker, but some company l never heard of, now was delivering my stuff!! And don't even get me started about the delivery of my car, another outside person came to get the car no identification on him who he was,no receipt given,l actually had to take a picture of his driver's license so l had some proof of who was taking my car!!!!!!! The worst experience EVER!!! I wanted to give a 0 for rating but it wasn't an option!! Never would l use COLONIAL again!!! Oh p.s. you have to begg them to return your phone call!!!!!
