Longtime Customer Lost Due to Unreasonable Verification Process

I had been a Credit One customer for over seven years and had three credit cards with the company. During that time, I never missed a payment and never exceeded my credit limits.

While I was traveling in Wyoming, Credit One suddenly froze one of my cards. I called to resolve the issue and cooperated with their requests to verify my identity, including sending documentation. Even after providing the requested information, they refused to remove the restriction from my account.

I was then told I needed to provide a notarized bank statement showing a small verification payment that Credit One had sent to my bank. At that point, the process became excessive and unreasonable. I had already verified my identity and had more than seven years of good payment history with the company.

I completely understand the need for fraud prevention and appreciate a credit card company protecting its customers. However, there also needs to be a reasonable process for a legitimate customer to verify their identity and regain access to their own account. Instead, I felt as though every time I complied with one request, another requirement was added.

Ultimately, I told Credit One to close the card rather than continue jumping through additional hoops. After more than seven years as a responsible customer, I never expected to be treated this way. Their handling of this situation turned what could have been a simple security verification into an extremely frustrating experience and cost them a longtime customer.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend Credit One Bank.

They sent a $69 annual fee charge to…

They sent a $69 annual fee charge to collections because I did not get the bill online. The reason they emailed me the bill to the wrong email address was because they misspelled my email address by one letter. I have had an account with them for 10 years paying always on time. Somehow they misspelled my email address about 1 year ago. They never called me to tell me my account was late, saying that I said not to call me. I did tell them not to call with marketing and sales calls. I think they likely botched my phone number too, because I 'm sure they would have called me and likely did call but to the wrong number.
The way I learned that my account was overdue by $69 was because I monitor my credit through the 3 agencies. As soon as I learned the account was in collections, I paid it right away. But now I will suffer with at least a 40 point ding to my credit. I have pleaded with Credit One to remove this one derogatory item, but they refuse even though they admit to making errors. I have closed my account with Credit One, all paid in full.

Can’t even use the card!!!!!

My card has been “Locked” for MONTHS AND MONTHS. They randomly made you upload all kinds of proof you are who you say you are… they approved my utility bill and bank statement but did not approve my drivers license since the address is different. (I have two mailing addresses this is not that uncommon) so I sent a utility bill matching my drivers license as requested, but they won’t allow that either… keep in mind it takes 7 to 10 BUSINESS DAYS… for them to review each upload… and you restart the process ALL OVER if any document is not approved. A birth certificate or passport or social security card does NOTHING for you, if all the documents they want are not exactly the same address.

The worst credit card company to get a…

The worst credit card company to get a credit card with. Not only do they charge an annual fee as soon as you sign up. Which is complete nonsense. That just shows how greedy of a company they are. If you have any issues, get ready to speak to someone that is going to be very difficult to understand due to it being an international call. I haven't used my card in a year and have been making payments and my balanced hasn't went down yet after a year of payments. Due to all their fees and nonsense. I closed my account and let it go to collections because I would at least have a chance of paying it off. My credit limit was 1500 but I own them 1900 I'm not sure how they came up with that number. They even charge annual fees in collections lol

Haven’t received a card yet and I’m getting alerts that someone is changing my personal information on my account.

I haven’t even received my card yet and I’ve had two notifications that my address and personal information has been changed and if it wasn’t me to call them. Then I get somebody in India or Pakistan that I can barely understand. All seems very suspicious like fraud. So far, it has not been a good experience.

Dishonest

Absolutely the worst credit card ever! They have intentionally denied payments just to charge 50$ late fee and 29$ return fee! I have only ever had this one account but they’ve sent multiple accounts to collections in my name! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I REGRET USING THEM!

Don't depend on this credit card company

These cards work like any other card, if you go to the same stores everyday. Don't expect these cards to work for travel.

I called in advance to set up my card in Mexico. The card didn't work at the hotel, desire calling customer service for help. Two days later, I tried to use it at the hospital where I was receiving care. The cards didn't work there either. I had to hand over all the cash I had for the entire trip. I had no more cash for food or gas.
Luckily I had some pop tarts and a bag of chips. Not the best post op food.

Took $2,000

Took $2,000 from an "unverified" account, then locked my card

I added a new bank account through Credit One's own portal, which required me to select my bank and log in with my password. Credit One accepted a $2,000 payment from that account — and then told me the account was unverified, locked my card, and asked me to verify it.

I asked how they could withdraw money from an account they hadn't verified. No real answer. I asked for a refund and offered to pay from my regular account instead. No refund. I agreed to verify and sent bank statements on Monday as instructed. I followed up today: no response, no confirmation they were received.

I've also been given two different timelines — one rep said 24–48 hours, the next said 7–10 business days. So Credit One is holding $2,000 of my money, my card is unusable, and I need that card to pay my health insurance premium. I asked for the review to be expedited and nothing changed.

If your system can pull a payment from an account, it should be able to verify that account first. Taking the money and then freezing the customer's credit line over the same account is backwards.

I am absolutely NOT enjoying my card

I am absolutely NOT enjoying my card. I have had this card not even 72 hours and have made over 10 calls to the company regarding my card being declined. I activated it and used it the first day with no issue. The next morning I purchased $10 in gas. A $150 hold was put on my card that is still currently on it (almost 3 days later). Every time I try to use my card it is declined. When I call to ask what is going on, I get a different answer every time and I'm either told I need to wait, or that it should work the next time. It's been 8 next times. I am HIGHLY disappointed and will be paying my bill off and canceling my card. VERY unfortunate.
